I think correlation probably does equal, uh, correlation....

Just making sure you're paying attention.

On topic, what'll be the ratio of carbon emissions for this jolly v actual progress. What will be achieved that couldn't be by teleconference? Why is this at Cancun?

This is about politics, egos, careers and greed more than science.

Well, shallow water's fine. Deep water hides things. Terrible, dark, cold things.

    Spoiler:

    ?
In the future, the Berlin wall will be a mile high, and made of steel. You too will be made to crawl, to lick children's blood from jackboots. There will be no creativity, only productivity. Instead of love there will be fear and distrust, instead of surrender there will be submission. Contact will be replaced with isolation, and joy with shame. Hope will cease to exist as a concept. The Earth will be covered with steel and concrete. There will be an electronic policeman in every head. Your children will be born in chains, live only to serve, and die in anguish and ignorance.
The universe we observe has precisely the properties we should expect if there is, at bottom, no design, no purpose, no evil, no good, nothing but blind, pitiless indifference.

    Told you so.

EDIT: I had a chance to snorkel the reef off Cozumel and its this wonderful reef with big columns of pretty things and fish and everything and then, beyond an almost wall like structure off to the left, there's <shudder> endless dark.

Due to the recalcitrance of people like you, nothing much, as usual. However, teleconferencing sucks. There are reasons why people don't do everything by teleconference.

It is most certainly about politics, as it should be. Saving the planet is and should be a political issue.

    So, you don't buy evolution?

Because we're not talking about soldier daddy talking to his wife and kids from Iraq? "Teleconferencing" is BS. When I've been at conferences, talks are a great source of info that could be teleconferenced. Unfortunately, all of the most valuable stuff came from face time.

Unlike pretty much any other policy debate? Sounds like a great rationale to do nothing and let our civilization burn!

Not really. You think that by getting 50 heads of government in the same room they actually solve the world's issues? Or the civil servants etc actually discuss and shape and basically make the deal beforehand over telephone etc

Typical obfuscation. Derail the thread by focusing on meaningless details.

  12. #42
Its not meaningless, its tangential and you didn't answer the question.

It's pointless and I reject your derailing wankery.

Why don't you go start a thread about how conferences are useless because the details are hammered out by minions ahead of time? That will be a fascinating discussion.

So you agree with me just don't think its relevant? Funny, I thought this was a thread about a conference that not only is not achieving anything but everyone knew before hand that it wouldn't ... so it is an on topic discussion.

Where do I say that? Is it too much to ask that some asshole not put words in my mouth in every single thread?

Funny, I thought it was a thread about a conference that was doomed because of the systematic misinformation and lying campaigns, funded primarily by big oil, that have been going on for many years. But feel free to rant, for the first time in your life, about how meaningless conferences are because all negotiations have been done beforehand. Nobody, y'know, sees through that.
