Replaying all the Settlers 7 levels on a harder difficulty. It's still quite an addictive game.
How many Peta members does it take to change a lightbulb?.... None, Peta can't change anything.
Heard a few things about these guys, and this game which is oldschool old, but I was on the fence until PETA gave them some free publicity. These seem like my type of people![]()
So I finally settled on something to hold me over until DNF and Crisis 2 come out...Borderlands.It's not Crisis or Farcry but it'll do. Especially since my roommates are going to buy copies so we can play co-op.

Faith is Hope (see Loki's sig for details)
If hindsight is 20-20, why is it so often ignored?
Still getting to know the Kinect with adventures.
Congratulations America
Pity it's so pricey, it looks rather fun.
We're stuck in a bloody snowglobe.
Let me say it again; I could buy it with a hefty discount, but now that I've bought it I think I could also have bought it at full price. (€149 overhere, I paid €119 for a controler and the adventures game, which is basically a workout game).
Some time next year I may make the switch to HD and a bigger screen, it should be even better then.
Congratulations America
Most of the hardware inside of it is pretty low end and massproduced. Suspect the high price was a bet againist it being a flop and recovering development costs. Wouldn't be surprised it was ~$60 by next christmas. Especially since the sales are appearing to be very front heavy.
I'm hoping the price will drop, but if it doesn't I'll probably buy it eventually, anyway.
Regardless, it won't be this month because I've already spent a (not so very) small fortune. Unless I see a sale, then I might change my mind.
We're stuck in a bloody snowglobe.
I dunno, from what I've heard the production costs are actually pretty high, and they had to wind up dropping a chip from it to keep the price reasonable. Price drops in the next year will probably depend on how much MS is willing to eat a loss to get the product more out there.
Last article I saw said the parts came in under $60. Obviously there is going to be a cost to build and ship it, but I still see a hefty profit for microsoft. I know they dropped the high end sensor that would have allowed an insane level of detail, like being able to read ASL, but I figured that was like dropping a 64gb SD card for a 16gb card.
and someone has to pay for that half a billion dollar marketing campaign.
-------------------------
I'm currently downloading PokerNight and Chime from Steam. Sweet contest + sweet discount = Sale made.
"read ASL?"
Any feedback on the Kinect? Amanda wants it for her Christmas present, should I get her it? She likes dancing and exercise style games so previously Wii games have suited her.
"Eyetoy" style games have been really gimicky in the past, what makes this so special?
American Sign Language.
I thought that was still going to be available, it's just that the software is going to be sent via update later?
Is my information on the Kinect just really bad?
Anyways, the chip I was actually thinking of that was cut was a small processor that would have been able to do some of the computations to reduce lag from the device.
Got the score in Chime that i needed in order to enter Steam's contest. Runs amazingly well on a cheapo laptop. Plays and looks like a twisted version of Lumines on acid.
Have to wait till I get home to get the achievement in Poker Night. It won't work on our laptops![]()
Playing AaAaAA!!!, gameplay seems rather basic right now, but its still good for a laugh.
Kinect is great. I'm still just playing the Adventures disc. It's fun and you really work up a sweat. HOWEVER !!! you need A F-ing lot of free space. anything less than an empty square of 2,5m by 2,5m won't do it and even that is probably not going to be enough as you advance in levels and you have to move more than in the basic levels. Have a good look at the room where you would use it and consider if you really have the space and or want to move all your furniture every time you're going to play.
Congratulations America
No we probably don't have the space, but I don't want to disappoint her.
"No, we haven't got anywhere to park, but she wants that car!" I don't mean to be a dick, but IMO buying it knowing it won't work is a bad idea. Explain it to her, and blame it on the Kinect and not your house.
Rand:
I brought the Kinect for me and my partner last weekend - I've been playing it all week, we think it's brilllant. The Nintendo Wii is certain to go (I'll get my Mario fix another way).
I got the Kinect for £140 with Kinect Adventures and a 2 year extended warranty (wanted to be safe than sorry as my partner is clumsy) but then brought Kinectimals for my animal loving girlfriend as she saw that a few days later and wanted it. I had spoke to a few people before i brought it who have it and they've not stopped playing. I asked them about the delay as i noticed a few critics complained about it but from my own experience it's not as bad as they say. In fact i find it hard to sometimes notice any delay at all.
I do agree with Hazir when he says you need space. We've got a few pieces of furniture in the way but it only takes a few minutes to pick it up and move to one side. I know it's a pain but we end up spending a few hours on it so for the sake of a few mins moving furniture i'd say it's worth it.
My mother and her partner have just brought a Wii but a few night ago they saw my Kinect, they had a blast and want it. A work colleague and her husband are coming over Sunday for a Kinect night as they want to see it - they'll want it as i know them too well.
NGS: I think you may have misunderstood. Not buying it may disappoint her, buying it and then it not being able to be used because of space would disappoint far more. Can't imagine what would be worse than unwrapping a Christmas present you can't use.
Just tried an inexact way of measuring the space, I could lie down in the gap between the TV stand and the couch with a couple of inches spare. I'm 5'8" so that's about a 6' clearance at the most. The TV and couch are currently on the widest walls of the lounge though, if we were to move it around then that would re-arrange it so that there's probably double that, 10-12' clearance. Quite a wide TV stand too, seen you can wall-mount the Kinect so that could add another distance. I'd want to wall-mount it probably anyway as we already have the Wii Sensor (which we won't be getting rid of) on the TV.
Worth it with a Wii then or not?
Would never likely get rid of the Wii for a long time, even without the movement games we've got Wii Fit and loads of balance-board fitness games, 2 Wii guitars, 2 mics, a couple of singing games and every single Wii Guitar Hero game ever released (besides the latest, we pick them up as second-hand trade-in's at the local Game shop whenever they're cheap). Been searching forever to get the Wii drums but they're impossible to find without spending a fortune on the whole kit including the guitars as well (which we already have).
I think it's worth it and i do think you'll get rid of the Wii because you'll have it. However what i will say is forget about the movements you do for the Wii, this is a totally different ball game. You need to do more on the Kinect i've found.
The distance from my TV to my sofa is around 8ft, i've got around 4ft either side for side stepping and all that jazz as my TV is in a corner. If you had 12' clearance you'd be perfect for two player but 6' is fine for single player. My Wii sensor bar is on top of the TV and my Kinect is on top of the base stand that came with my TV.
Oh and the Kinect can move up and down to adjust for height differences.
What's annoying is that the Kinect actually reflects your physical condition. I guess that's actually a good thing in the long run, but I'm reaching the limits of what I can do with my present condition. I lost about 2kgs over the last week.
Congratulations America
Duels of the Planewalkers. Needed the Devastator achievement for the Steam contest, ended up getting it by driving the first battle opponent from 10 to -23 in one swipeThis is the 3rd or 4th Magic dueling game I have on the PC and its prettiest and fastest version game, but a little rough around the edges with the animations.
Been playing MOO2. God that's a great game. Why doesn't someone take that engine and update the graphics and add some bells and whistles? MOO3 coulda been awesome.... So close. Now, never.
The Rules
Copper- behave toward others to elicit treatment you would like (the manipulative rule)
Gold- treat others how you would like them to treat you (the self regard rule)
Platinum - treat others the way they would like to be treated (the PC rule)
Minecraft. I built a urban development!
Also, new stuff should be coming in the mail soon.
I enjoy blank walls.
Lot of cool reveals at the VGA on Saturday.
Uncharted 3, Mass Effect 3, Elder Scrolls 5, Arkham City, Prototype 2, and whatever I'm forgetting.
In the future, the Berlin wall will be a mile high, and made of steel. You too will be made to crawl, to lick children's blood from jackboots. There will be no creativity, only productivity. Instead of love there will be fear and distrust, instead of surrender there will be submission. Contact will be replaced with isolation, and joy with shame. Hope will cease to exist as a concept. The Earth will be covered with steel and concrete. There will be an electronic policeman in every head. Your children will be born in chains, live only to serve, and die in anguish and ignorance.
The universe we observe has precisely the properties we should expect if there is, at bottom, no design, no purpose, no evil, no good, nothing but blind, pitiless indifference.
Shatter. An addictive and trippy as shit block busting game.
GoG.com started it Christmas sale today. Some damn good deals in there, all without DRM.
