Closing threads is not an approach that I like. It should be suitable for Mods to nip certain activities in the bud. Thread closing smells fairly autocratic, and I think it happens more often than it should, probably by several-fold.
Other opinions?

I don't see it happening that much, but a few threads on current topics like Apple closing more doors, could have been better served by cleaning it up rather than locking it up. I've come across a few new articles and information pieces that would fit into there.
On the other hand, its easy on the mods to lock and move on, and if the subject is that important or evolving, I don't see the issue in creating a new thread thats trying a little harder. At least for news worthy topics.
Once things get to the point of needing to be cleaned up or closed, the tone is rarely going to improve. We've repeatedly demonstrated that. Closing seems like the proper response.
Last night as I lay in bed, looking up at the stars, I thought, “Where the hell is my ceiling?"
Is there a reason the "Ireland to go bust" thread was closed?

That would be my guess.
The light that once I thought compassion still casting shadows in your action
The words you shared were cold transactions that bring me to curse what you've done
When you're up there absorbed in greatness with such success you've grown complacent
I hope you scorch your many faces when you fly too close to the sun
I don't agree with you guys. I think a number of threads were closed when things hadn't gotten bad at all. I'd call it zero tolerance of criticism for the management, not justified closings. If things has gotten really ugly, including speculation on the source of pustules on other members' genitalia, then yeah, close it. If somebody is fussing about a mod's actions, things haven't gone too far. Saying they have and closing the thread is fairly authoritarian.
Except I don't see any criticism of mod actions in that thread...
Just seen this thread, it's very rare for me to lock a thread and I think its even rarer if ever for it to be due to a "criticism of management". I'm notoriously thick skinned and I think Dread is the same and Wraith will be too.
I think the Ireland thread was an accident so I've unlocked it.
Give Dread a WL so we can watch his reaction.![]()

Faith is Hope (see Loki's sig for details)
If hindsight is 20-20, why is it so often ignored?
The Rules
Copper- behave toward others to elicit treatment you would like (the manipulative rule)
Gold- treat others how you would like them to treat you (the self regard rule)
Platinum - treat others the way they would like to be treated (the PC rule)
You guys have had a lot of 'accidents' lately
Should your girlfriends be worried?
In the future, the Berlin wall will be a mile high, and made of steel. You too will be made to crawl, to lick children's blood from jackboots. There will be no creativity, only productivity. Instead of love there will be fear and distrust, instead of surrender there will be submission. Contact will be replaced with isolation, and joy with shame. Hope will cease to exist as a concept. The Earth will be covered with steel and concrete. There will be an electronic policeman in every head. Your children will be born in chains, live only to serve, and die in anguish and ignorance.
The universe we observe has precisely the properties we should expect if there is, at bottom, no design, no purpose, no evil, no good, nothing but blind, pitiless indifference.
Authoritarian streak meaning accidentally locking two threads for a few hours? Seriously?Or do you mean handing our all those warnings? Or more likely, is it that moderators say mean things to you in their non-mod capacity?
Hope is the denial of reality
I don't understand what sort of hippie commune you'd want us to be. The moderators, insofar as I've seen, have not locked threads that did not warrant locking (intentionally), are extremely lenient about warnings, and very very rarely disrupt conversation no matter how heated. What more do you want? Everyone to be mods? That'd be a fine afternoon before we'd all be banned.

Mods, I think the time has come to close this thread.![]()
