I do wonder how much of that is real. And I wonder how difficult it really is to keep stuff like that from happening if it is real. But in the US the fact is a whole lot of people go to prison who probably shouldn't, costing society a great deal more than dealing with crime ought to. The US has, by and far, the most horrendous and inhumane prison system of any developed/industrial nation, and going by stats, without much tangible benefit. There has to be some reason why the situation persists, and the simplest interpretation is that no one (except for that one Dem, forget his name) wants to tackle the issue because of the immense back-lash it would generate. The back-lash has to come from somewhere, and I blame your sick and inhumane culture.
