Thread: The pictures thread

Well, what can you expect from a culture that treats rape as a just and amusing form of punishment? People want to see jails full of people, suffering and toiling needlessly, because it satisfies their morbid sense of justice.
In the future, the Berlin wall will be a mile high, and made of steel. You too will be made to crawl, to lick children's blood from jackboots. There will be no creativity, only productivity. Instead of love there will be fear and distrust, instead of surrender there will be submission. Contact will be replaced with isolation, and joy with shame. Hope will cease to exist as a concept. The Earth will be covered with steel and concrete. There will be an electronic policeman in every head. Your children will be born in chains, live only to serve, and die in anguish and ignorance.
The universe we observe has precisely the properties we should expect if there is, at bottom, no design, no purpose, no evil, no good, nothing but blind, pitiless indifference.

I do wonder how much of that is real. And I wonder how difficult it really is to keep stuff like that from happening if it is real. But in the US the fact is a whole lot of people go to prison who probably shouldn't, costing society a great deal more than dealing with crime ought to. Anyone in jail for producing, possession of or dealing pot for example - that's just insane.
    The Rules
Copper- behave toward others to elicit treatment you would like (the manipulative rule)
Gold- treat others how you would like them to treat you (the self regard rule)
Platinum - treat others the way they would like to be treated (the PC rule)

The US has, by and far, the most horrendous and inhumane prison system of any developed/industrial nation, and going by stats, without much tangible benefit. There has to be some reason why the situation persists, and the simplest interpretation is that no one (except for that one Dem, forget his name) wants to tackle the issue because of the immense back-lash it would generate. The back-lash has to come from somewhere, and I blame your sick and inhumane culture.

Why does it always have to be about blame?

That's why the discussion leads to assigning blame? But the blamer's a half-crazy Finn.

Edgar Rice Burroughs FTW! Tan Hadron of Hastor!

I actually own a copy of this last edition. My grandfather died when I was 8, and I found a copy of this (plus The Gods of Mars, same printing) in the basement Turns out my uncle had read them in high school. Maybe the first real novel I ever read.
