    I'd forgotten about Melissa's bad 80s hair.

This one is just a beautiful, simple song. I like playing this one on my acoustic, though my lame voice can't quite cut it.

OMG, Sugar Ray covers this? Why do it so similarly? If you're going to cover something, change it somehow, give us a new interpretation. (heh, they removed "at Arles" from the lyrics). Of course, Sugar Ray does this, as they had an almost verbatim cover of Steve Miller's Abracadabra.

The funny thing is how I re-found this song. It was because of that sky-parachuting video in the other thread. The song in it was disco science, which uses the sample from the very beginning of the cannonball song.

Holy Jesus Christ! I've heard a few versions of this song, but how is it that the venue didn't melt with this one?

Wow, this must be a European thing. I've never heard of Boney M. or this song, but as disco goes this is a cool song. I especially loved the long intro, with the African drums/folk rhythm guitar combo that was really compelling. I also liked the bridge from intro to first verse. Nicely done. Thanks for the new music tip!

Apparently they have some other interesting stuff.

Reminds me of Juluka, in their combination of African rhythms with European song styles and production (Juluka less fluffy, and they were legitimate South African, as opposed what looks like faux African).

Juluka has tons of this stuff out there. I saw their successor Savuka in maybe 1993 or 4? Savuka also had Johnny Clegg, but I always found their sound to be fairly sterile and cheesier. Still, their live show was amazing, and Clegg and friends did their hybrid Zulu dancing stuff, which was pretty amazing.

Wow, I wasn't aware that some people don't know Boney M, to me this is like not knowing ABBA: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boney_M
Probably the most important German disco band.

And something that might sound familiar:

    This already way a cover.

Yeah, I already looked it up and listened to a few songs. But the thing is that ABBA got huge airplay in the US, and is probably the single most identifiable disco act here (maybe the BeeGees because of Saturday Night Fever). I actually know a fair amount of disco, and I've never heard of Boney M. Somebody who was not 8-10 at the time might remember them, but to my knowledge they didn't get much exposure in the US. You'll notice that they had #1 hits in Europe, but didn't top #30 in the US. The music exposure is pretty different between the US and Europe, except for the huge hits. I'm guessing this was a mostly Europe phenomenon.

The radio played this song this morning to wake me up, later found out why.

Wow, I haven't heard Boney M in years.

Heard this song on an ASPCA commercial, but can't find the original version. Simply wonderful song and voice, though. (Check out that hairstyle!)

I have a fetish for war march intros with those drums. Oh, also reckon that most artists' best songs are not those known through the media.

Also my most recent favorite piano piece, accompanied by an AMV by the lovely anime Bakemonogatari.

Tomorrow is like an empty canvas that extends endlessly, what should I sketch on it?
