Q: What's the "traditional" way of raising "successful" children in India? Same techniques as the Chinese Tiger Mother, or something different?

They obviously end up valuing education and moving up the employment (and social) ladders just as much as the Chinese. They value math and science, producing scientists, engineers, and physicians.

I don't recall articles, books or stories of how Indian parents make their kids forego sleep-overs or team sports, let alone sitting at the piano (holding their urine) or threatening to burn stuffed animals. I'm not aware of any cultural tradition aimed at shaming or guilting their kids into academic excellence. Yet, they succeed.
