Thread: What is making you happy right now

Scarlett won her debut Sunburst Pageant

Didn't know what to expect, or how she would react to the rather large crowd and being on stage, but once she was up there... something clicked and she just knew. Pulled off one of her over the shoulder coy smiles and ended up winning every category we paid for (amazing how that works...) and best overall. So now her entry into state is paid, and since its in Orlando, and its all weekend long, it sounds like a good time for a family trip to Disney.

Glad he liked it! I am so happy he did well too. See, I told you, there was nothing to worry about!

I have started rearranging my living room, and it looks pretty cool so far! Hope I can gather enough energy to work on it a bit more tomorrow! I'm tired of having so much junk piled up...it almost looks like I need that team from that show Hoarders to come in and unbury me! I am not the worlds best housekeeper, but this is ridiculous! Oh well, by the end of the coming week, it will look like a different place. I am so happy I have been feeling good enough to do this!

Arrived safely in Denver, well, Aurora actually. Except for a little snow and ice on Monarch Pass the roads were mostly dry. My oldest daughter and her fiance will be moving at the EOM so we are going to get a house big enough for them to stay with us for awhile so they can save for their future of marital bliss. Both my wife and I like him very much, and are happy that our babies will both be under our roof together again. The only bad part of the trip is that my youngest wasn't feeling well all yesterday, and complained of a sore throat this morning. Beck took her to the E.R., she has strep. Poor girl has to leave her friends and gets strep for her trouble.

In the future, the Berlin wall will be a mile high, and made of steel. You too will be made to crawl, to lick children's blood from jackboots. There will be no creativity, only productivity. Instead of love there will be fear and distrust, instead of surrender there will be submission. Contact will be replaced with isolation, and joy with shame. Hope will cease to exist as a concept. The Earth will be covered with steel and concrete. There will be an electronic policeman in every head. Your children will be born in chains, live only to serve, and die in anguish and ignorance.

It wasn't my idea, Brandy used to do it with Ocean a lot. I had my reservations, someone here once mentioned "babies as fashion accessories" and that line has stuck in my head when it comes to how I parade Scarlett around. The one we went to was a small local one, but Scarlett still had competition, so it was nothing like what the public remembers from all of the Jonbenet Ramsey coverage years ago. No makeup, no seats for the onlookers. Just a stage in a mall. Most of the parents were cool, but there were one or two who dolled up and trained their kids. They stuck out really bad to with how they acted, like rejects from America's Top Model. Age ranges from 0-27 years old, and holy hell, there were some hot women there who looked like they could still pass for a high school prom date.

The pageant we won entry into, thats supposed to be the serious thing. 2 days long, convention center, all the bells and whistles, with the awards and prizes to back it up. Scarlett gets a new dress, but thats all we are changing. The type of event, crowd, presentation that I see at state, I guess thats going to decide if I'm really a pageant dad.

Of course its Scarlett's choice to, and so far she seems to be having fun. She stomps around in her dress shoes like she is playing in rain puddles (for the clacking), she likes to make her fancy dresses poof up by jumping around, and all the kids seemed to enjoy playing together while waiting around. Then again, as long as we feed her and let her nap, she seems happy just about anywhere.

    Woo!

Beautiful day, no classes, passed my exam and with a good margin (was only half a percent off my post-exam guesstimate, which is comforting ), may have a job lined up for summer (despite confusion as well as possible conflict with a buddy), have enough money to tide me by till I get the metallica tickets offa my hands, lots of greating on the Nook, good meeting coming up, and everything in my home ridiculously cozy now on the last stretch of my residence here...

Now that that's been said I presume the universe will bitchslap me

I have running applications for two jobs. Been to the second meeting this morning and they want to hire me. Now I'm waiting for the result of the application for job #2, which I really want. But now the first one has gone so well, I already know my unemployment days are over and I'm possibly in the luxury position of being able to pick between 2 jobs.

One is a game developer programmer using ActionScript and Unity 3D (the one I really want) but it means a 30 minute commute and probably won't pay as much as the other one. The other one is programming interactive online advertisements, is a bit less creative but pays a couple of hundred Euros more. (The latter one is in the bag already).

Make that 5 supers in about ~5 months, and I figured out why the kids/teen department that requested me lost out to the digital services department that requested me.
The library is getting rid of their stand alone network services department. The position I'll be making a horizontal move into is responsible for our internet and intranet pages, the database subscription access, the catalog database, and other online library specific apps.

I've got some serious brushing up to do...

How's the public transportation there? I actually kinda like my 30 min commute, because I get so much leisure reading done that way. I'm a little worried about the life expectancy of my current phone, when that old geezer kicks the bucket I'll probably get a smart phone and then it'll be Nethack vs. book every damn bus or train ride

Public transportation is ok. It would take a little longer than 30 minutes because it'd need to be by train and bus (Both around 15 minutes, just too short as well to settle down with a book) because the company is at the edge of the city. And I really seriously hate waiting. So I'll be driving. Which I don't mind at all as long as there are no jams. That would mean waiting

30 minute commute is no time at all.

Commuted 50 mins by car for 10 years. Fine if you enjoy driving and it's not too trafficky.
New job now I commute 50 mins by train and tube. Good book and the time disappears. For the train part anyways. For the tube part I get to spend the time with my face in a strangers armpit.

Congrats on the successful job hunting, I hope you get the one you want.

    1) Congrats Rand

    2) Congrats Ziggy but fingers crossed for the job you want.

    3) Mortgage lender sent the documents over today which means i'm ready for the next step - Exchanging the contract. Once that happens the house will finally be ours. The only annoying bit is having to wait till July for the house but it's worth it as we want loads of extras installed so i need more ££££.
