Who the hell is this guy, anyway? And why do you boys have a crush on him?

A shining surprise it would be.

Tomorrow is like an empty canvas that extends endlessly, what should I sketch on it?

Okay, it's Jack Nicholson. I looked him up. Only movie he's ever been in that I've seen is The Witches of Eastwick. Not really sure why I was supposed to be able to identify him, he doesn't seem to have been in much of anything good (or at least my taste, anyway).

So why the hell do you boys have a crush on him, exactly?

Because he's a great actor and very well-known. Quite a few great roles as well.

Easy Rider, Shining, two Jakes, Batman (the 1st), A Few Good Men (You can't handle the truth! Surely you know that one?), Mars Attacks, As Good as it Gets, About Smith, One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest, The Departed.

So why the hell do you boys have a crush on him, exactly?
    Why the hell not?

I don't have a crush on him, I have a crush on Stephen Fry.

Nope. Never seen any of them. So congratulations, he's so well-known that I don't recognize him. I'm perfectly willing to believe he's a great actor, but he's not in anything I want to watch.

(The Witches of Eastwick was a terrible film, incidentally - the book was way better)

Well, can't argue over taste, so I'm not gonna. And you're not the yardstick with which people determine whether someone is well-known, so I'm afraid I can't accept those congratulations But I would urge you to at least check out One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest, As Good as it Gets, About Smith and the Departed. I rather liked those, who know, you might too

On a different, more on-topic, note:

I could have had class. I could have been a contender.

I liked the book of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, I'm perfectly willing to try the movie.

Like I just said in IRC - I've heard of Jack Nicholson, of course - but I never would have been able to recognize him by a photo or in a preview of a film.

I spent the entire movie being distracted by Helen Hunt's massively oversized forehead.

I was going to be snarky at Dread, but who could be mad at him after this

Fuck it, I'll be snarky anyway

In the future, the Berlin wall will be a mile high, and made of steel. You too will be made to crawl, to lick children's blood from jackboots. There will be no creativity, only productivity. Instead of love there will be fear and distrust, instead of surrender there will be submission. Contact will be replaced with isolation, and joy with shame. Hope will cease to exist as a concept. The Earth will be covered with steel and concrete. There will be an electronic policeman in every head. Your children will be born in chains, live only to serve, and die in anguish and ignorance.
The universe we observe has precisely the properties we should expect if there is, at bottom, no design, no purpose, no evil, no good, nothing but blind, pitiless indifference.

300 million and we found what, 10 idiots? I'm really impressed.

Sadly, idiots tend to be the vocal minority.
