I normally watch BBC for day-to-day news (don't like Sky's adverts) but am watching Sky, they always seem to treat live breaking events better than the BBC lately.

Can't believe the difference in coverage between Sky and BBC on this. Sky is live, going from one image to another live - embedded journalists with the rebels now in Tripoli etc, with some in studio analysis.
The Beeb seems to have gone to sleep overnight and are running on a skeleton crew, showing repeats on loop.
I appreciate its Sunday night but when your job is news how difficult is it to have a list of people to call to say "major developments happening live, come back to the studio".
Would having people in the studio help any, though, if they don't have any embedded journalists in Lybia? Not to defend the BBC, but I'd think getting Brits into a London (?) studio would be the most trivial part of getting relevant, live news on air.

Somehow I suspect the coverage at 9AM to be a world of difference. Incidentally it was the same during the riots, which were happening IN LONDON. They just seem totally unable to cope with anything happening Sunday night.

FFS switched back to the Beeb when Sky went to ads and they're showing repeats still from the "Outskirts of Tripoli" in broad daylight. They have people embedded, they have people in Tripoli, its not that difficult. They're just not bothering as its night-time. Really pathetic.
Incidentally while there's quite some confusion (as its live) Sky are not just relying on their own journalists. Keep quoting local television, local sources, Reuters, AP, press releases or sometimes even American broadcasts as the journos share info to broadcast it. Now discussing a Reuters/ICC announcement that Gaddafi's been arrested and wondering if its Colonel Gaddafi himself or a son.
Which brings me back to purpose of this post - possible that Gaddafi's been arrested?

I'm always curious when so much celebratory gunfire happens why more people don't get killed. I mean what goes up must come down, it seems really rare to hear of those bullets hitting someone though.
EDIT: Watching both News channels on tabs on Firefox as am not by TV. Sky currently in Green Square, BBC are showing from Outskirts of Tripoli earlier today.

Hopefully there isn't a repeat of Iraq, with regime-supporters blending in and then launching terrorist attacks. This is a real possibility if the rebels don't tread carefully.
