anyways, surfing the web at work is one thing. Posting on a forum seems really out of place to me. But then again, I'm not in the private industry so I guess I'm just not used to the idea of playing on the computer when I should be doing my job.

Let's look at the actual circumstance before we start throwing around words like hypocritical.

#1. The N word was posted in giant pink letters so that it could be read from far away.

#2. Fuck was not posted in giant pink letters so it could be read from far away.

#3. While fuck is a bad word and would be embarrassing if someone did actually see it posted in giant pink letters on my screen, it would not get anything like the reaction that the N word would get if seen by any of the black peers and superiors I work with. There is Zero tolerance for anything like racism in my company. There is not zero tolerance for straight up profanity.

I'm 100% with EK here, I think the sensitivity over the word is silly, but we were no longer talking about that when that big pink version got posted. It was a real attempt to get somebody in trouble and I think OG was being a total asshole for doing it.

Agreed with the general opinion, using a word generally is one thing, OG was deliberately trying to get attention to that word in a maximum-impact way immediately after being told it could have repercussions.

Atari forums are a "family friendly" forum, like internet in China, where people are not allowed to use internet to discuss politics or see obscenity.

I know about regimes that were "family friendly":
-Argentine regime led by right winger Leopoldo Galtieri in the 1970s which merit was to hunt down leftist teens who were talking about politics. Leftism is not family friendly.
-Chilean regime of Augusto Pinochet, which killed those who were not "family friendly". US helped him.
-Cuban regime of Fidel Castro. He does not like "family unfriendly" political comments. USSR helped him.
-Iraqi regime of Saddam Hussein. Saddam did not like family unfriendly political comments from the kurds. US provided lots of financial and political support to this family friendly regime.

One interesting thing about knowing the whereabouts of politics is that politicians do not believe what they say.
Their words are often made to make people behave in a certain way.
In politics there is no good and evil.
War takes place when war is seen as politically cheaper than peace. It is not about good vs evil.
Good vs Evil is a fairy tale designed for simple and uneducated minds.
Politics is about convenience (for politicians) and not about values.
Without values, anything is justfiable under the light of convenience.

So taking nationalist positions is like being a soccer hooligan. But people are nationalist hooligan is not what happens when people talk about money.
One clear example is health reform. As a patriot, a citizen would gladly pay for a public option to save the lives of a fellow citizen in disgrace.
Nationalism is merely theatrical and hipocrisy nowadays. For many people, patriotism ends when money comes.

Should they be embraced simply for the sake of change, though? There are reasons for having a blanket ban on ignoring folks, no matter how pestilent and banal they be. I can see the reasons for ignoring them, too, but I suppose I don't think it's a very constructive policy.
