Thread: What is making you happy right now

  1. #2851
That's really neat, OG! Maybe some [astute and PR savvy] plastic surgeon will offer her "free" reconstructive services, so she can use her winnings cash for other future things, like her retirement.

Wait, didn't you say she was living with you, not just for financial reasons but for best family choices? Now she's planning for her own new home again? I musta missed something somewhere. Care to fill in the blanks?

  2. #2852
She isn't living we us yet. She is still going mortage free in her own home. Once that hammer finally comes down she will move in with us, which will put everyone high gear for finding a bigger/better place. Right now I've got 11 thousand saved, and she will have this, which should make it easier getting approved considering everything.

Dang, another post bit the dust while typing. What's up with that?

OG, whatever your mom does, make sure it's done before 2013. I've been reading about this, and it's complicated and vague....but in 2013, all those folks living "rent free" in their underwater mortgaged homes will have to start paying taxes on their "profit". Not paying the mortgage contract will be designated as taxable income.

I doubt she will be able to hold out for another year and a half. She was served with the lawsuit papers for the foreclosure when she was in the ICU.

Good thing the Dems are in charge now, and looking out for the poor and disadvantage in society, huh?

So far, it looks like that legislation was initiated during Bush's last remaining weeks, when his administration was writing guidelines for the stimulus. Before Obama was elected. It had nothing to do with Democrats. But don't let that stop you from blaming Democrats or Obama for everything wrong in our society...

When the Democrats controlled both houses of Congress, is when this piece of legislation became law, in other words.

Like I said, good thing the Dems are looking out for the little guy!

You mean, the Republicans are those ones looking out for the 'lil guy, like me? Whoah there now par'dner. If I vote fer the Repub-li-can candidate, that means I'm votin' for the Republic, right? Well then, why's all their stuff sound downright straight outta the Confederate South?

I'm not certain having a birthday and house moving on the same day is good for some people, but I have a feeling that tomorrow will be a good day.

If you must put words in my mouth, try to use less stupid ones. I've never said the Republicans were looking out for the little guy.

I just pointed out the Democrats sure as hell aren't. What you do with that information is up to you. You could employ logic, and calculate the number of national politicians who give a shit about the little guy in less than a second, or you could go the insane route, and assume that this a balanced equation or zero sum game or whatever your underlying assumption was there.

Fine. Reminding everyone that they're enslaved by elected officials they picked is making me happy. Slightly sadistic joy still counts, right?

I lost my certificate for 'responsible alcohol use', so I had to take the course again (because I'm a bartender at a nonprofit). Bummed me out until I learned that it has been changed from a 2 hour class to a website with info and an online test, which took me two minutes to pass 20/20. Standards are slipping in this world!

Hooray! I had to take one of those classes once; I poured beer at a few events that raised funds for Relay For Life. I wanted to stab myself in the eyeball.

edit: The class, not the beer pouring. That was kind of fun, though it was Bud Light and Icehouse. :barf:

Passed the exam Unlike my previous oral exam, this time he asked almost exactly the things I did know and skipped the parts I have trouble with. Scored 8/10, which may not seem that high but the way Dutch grading works, that's excellent, especially for this class, almost everybody scores 6 or 7.

Free gas? Might even be enough to get me to switch over to biofuels.

Cop trying to give me a ticket pulled out onto the freeway... and caused a massive pile-up. Freeway was a damn parking lot in that direction for almost 3 hours.

Other people may be hell, but it sure is divine to watch a bunch of 'em get what they have coming to them.

I'm sure there's retailers out there more than happy to supply you with ash at whole-sale prices
In the future, the Berlin wall will be a mile high, and made of steel. You too will be made to crawl, to lick children's blood from jackboots. There will be no creativity, only productivity. Instead of love there will be fear and distrust, instead of surrender there will be submission. Contact will be replaced with isolation, and joy with shame. Hope will cease to exist as a concept. The Earth will be covered with steel and concrete. There will be an electronic policeman in every head. Your children will be born in chains, live only to serve, and die in anguish and ignorance.
The universe we observe has precisely the properties we should expect if there is, at bottom, no design, no purpose, no evil, no good, nothing but blind, pitiless indifference.

I almost rear-ended a cop car recently. The idiots were parking in the bus lane when they suddenly got the bright idea to accelerate and turn into the street directly in front of me. Without sirens and flashing lights, of course.

Just like those ambulance guys where I had to pull over into a snowdrift because they were directly behind me with blaring horns and flashing lights. While I was working to get clear again, I saw them switching off the lights and pull into a McDrive. I was of a mind to report them to the police.
When the stars threw down their spears
And watered heaven with their tears:
Did he smile his work to see?
Did he who made the lamb make thee?

I had a cop do that to me once. I saw him behind me, so I was careful to drive the speed limit. It was a one lane road, and I guess he decided he didn't want to drive the speed limit, so the lights came on. I pulled over. He passed me. The lights went back off.
