Waste of time. If the medics do it, the cops do too. 'K, maybe the cops pull into a Krispy Kreme (donuts) instead of a McD's, but I honestly can't even remember the last time I saw an emergency vehicle with its lights on heading to an actual emergency. They just seem to use the lights to clear traffic out of the way when they're hungry or outta smokes. Oh, and to cause massive freeway pile ups in pursuit of an 80 dollar fine.

Well, over here at least, it is not a waste of time. I've got a friend who works as a paramedic. He told me that several of his colleagues got into pretty hot water when pulling such a stunt and being caught.

Suspension of your driver's license and the job requirement that you are allowed to drive an ambulance don't go well together.

Wait, don't tell me... in your country it's also not customary to arrest citizens for filing complaints against the cops.

You know, no one likes people who brag about their good fortune.

I've lost track of the number of times the fire department where I lived would turn on their sirens just to end up at the local supermarket a minute later...

Over here an off duty cop recently got ticketed by his colleague, when he tried pulling over a woman after she committed an offense. He pulled in front of her to make her stop, but she hit him from behind. Motorcycle cop witnessed it and wrote a ticket for causing a dangerous situation

Don't many states now have stuff about it being illegal to film cops, at all? You guys are doing fascism all wrong, I tells ya

No, though it's easy to see why you'd think that. In fact, there's only one state where it's explicitly illegal to film the cops, the most corrupt state in the union, and former home of our current head negroid, and there's another state where state wiretapping laws would allow for successful prosecutions of cop-filmers, but in the other 48 states, it's pretty difficult to make a legal case against someone filming the cops in public.

Doesn't stop them from taking and/or destroying your recordings and filing phony or unsustainable charges against you, though. Months and thousands of dollars later, you'll be found innocent, and nothing will happen to the cops. Hurrah! Justice!

Appeals court recently ruled that filming cops is protected under the 1st and 4th amendments. There were actually very few states that tried to specifically ban filming cops, it was usually an extension of some sort of other law, like wiretapping.

Doesn't means cops won't continue to arrest and harass people who film them.

Well....it's not so much a Happy thing, and parts would belong as Messed Up Groove....but

Flooding! The Susquehanna River valley is messed up after torrential rains. We got 10 inches the last 2 days, with more to come. School closed today, early dismissal yesterday. Roads washed out, I-83 and SR 30 were closed plus tons of side roads, people stranded at work/home. Hershey zoo had to euthanize 2 bison because they were drowning. Over 100,000 evacuated and most had to leave pets behind.

AND this is my ex-husband's wedding weekend! People driving, or flying into Harrisburg may get diverted or delayed.

AND they planned the wedding for outdoors, in their new home's newly constructed courtyard, under one of those white event tents. They still have mounds of dirt, stone, mulch and building debris laying around, thinking these last few days they could wrap it up in time. They called my kids to come help put up the tent today, in the rain and mud. The jerk was too cheap to have the tent company set it up, apparently. And they're at a time crunch as one of the wedding dinners is tonight, with 3 inches of rain predicted. The river won't crest until late tonight or tomorrow, just in time for their second dinner event. Rain forecast for the whole weekend, with possible power outages. The bitch in me is kinda chuckling about all that, even though it's mean.

Who in their right mind plans for an outdoor wedding in September?

The same kind of insane fool who plans a wedding at all, I'd imagine.

I had an outdoor wedding in December.

    ?

September is one of the most popular months for a wedding. The temps are predictable (warm but comfortable), and the trees are just starting to change color.

I'm doing one in October. I would imagine it's also warmer in Florida than in NYC.

I wanted to have mine in September, for the reasons OG mentioned. Ended up doing it in May; one of the other popular wedding months. Oh well, I had mine indoors so it really doesn't matter.

Today, we have the extreme privilege of having members of the Uganda government/Judiciary system visiting our business, more notably a senior judge figure - to whom we must address as 'My Lord'. Unfortunately, myself and several others find it utterly hilarious that our senior directors and managers have to actually address someone as 'My Lord' they also have the great task of pronouncing their names correctly.

So far we've all made a mockery of them with various 'Coming to America' quotes and our sales manager has managed to confuse Uganda with Ghana. Great start!

The Hoge Raad (dutch supreme court) has ruled that government can not let people pay for the issuance of ID-cards. In short the HR ruled that government can't charge you for a 'service' that is mostly in the interest of the state. Fees can only be levied if the citizen has a clearly identifiable and personal interest in the service.

So "who pays" for mandatory ID cards?

Huh? What kind of nonsense is this? Prevention of identity theft is not a "personal interest"?

The tax-payer of course, which still means you're getting it for free if you're not a tax-payer. Also it's good if government can't hide taxation in this kind of fees.

That as it happens is not a reason why we are required to have these cards so the court of course won't weigh it.

Except that "identity theft" is only an issue because everyone is required to have a single, government-issued identity. (Without that, there wouldn't be any unified identity to steal.) So, since that's a problem the government ID requirements create, it can't be bootstrapped into a justification to charge for the IDs.

A national judicial ruling with some sense, for once. Go Dutchies!

The long wait is over; I would have taken a day off today if it weren't for the fact that I thought there would be a hearing at 1 this afternoon. Turns out it's been cancelled with me nothing to do for the rest of the afternoon. Now I can start getting ready to get out of this place and head for the airport and fly to Istanbul

I am free of the shackles of a rather poisonous friendship that has been a thorn in my side for the last two years (though the friendship goes much further back) .

It is a relief to no longer feel the weight of someone elses troubles and conflicts as if they were my own - its amazing how quickly you can move on once you accept that a phase of your life has ended, and another has begun.

Since our heavy rains and tornadoes from Lee on Monday, we have had the most delightfully cool and pleasant fall weather. Mid-70s (°F, of course) and just marvelous. It won't last, since it's only September, but it's been fantastic.
We're stuck in a bloody snowglobe.
