Thread: What movie did you see today?

In Europe, locally produced movies are usually just another form of welfare ie. for bad film production teams

In the future, the Berlin wall will be a mile high, and made of steel. You too will be made to crawl, to lick children's blood from jackboots. There will be no creativity, only productivity. Instead of love there will be fear and distrust, instead of surrender there will be submission. Contact will be replaced with isolation, and joy with shame. Hope will cease to exist as a concept. The Earth will be covered with steel and concrete. There will be an electronic policeman in every head. Your children will be born in chains, live only to serve, and die in anguish and ignorance.

I recently watched a documentary on Mark Twain, streamable on netflix... very good and interesting. Not for the faint of the heart. Incredibly insightful and motivational.

Thus I'm not really a person to ask when it comes to German movies

I'd rather watch stuff like Pan's Labyrinth, Solaris, A Life Less Ordinary or Delicatessen. Whenever someone wants to take me to a movie and I hear it's a German movie, I automatically think: "Oh no!" Regardless of the actual quality. It's just a reflex I got from somewhere. Then again, I'm also definitely not a fan of the German crime movies like "Tatort", "Derrick" and such. I'm weird like that.
There's of course a massive difference between tv shit, and 'arthouse' films!

Meh, don;t agree. A lot are, but there's a massive amount of quality, too. Then again, with films I am closest to Belgium and they have really put out a shitload of great movies the past few years (and a bunch of really crappy ones).

In fact, I saw Rundskop today, which is called Bullhead in English, and it was fucking awesome. Great acting, good and not predictable story, nice nuances. I can see why it is the Belgian submission for the upcoming oscars - and there were plenty of other good candidates.

Chillaxing on an 80 degree evening in Indianapolis having a cold beer. Mmmmm. This trip alone has been interesting. I am enjoying being by myself, but I miss the other half. It's been a long time since inhave traveled solo. I kinda love it.

Traveling with this new technology at hand (iPhone) is pretty fucking convenient.

Getting away from work, with no immediate responsibility, is priceless.

    I am happy!

That sounds like a great movie

Yeah it had the word 'complex' in it.

And you just showed your immaturity. It's a biographical movie, by the way.
Wtf? I didn't just stop watching because of that one scene, just that I'm not a fan of terrorists and what I didn't like was how they showed actual images of people that were killed back then.

I'm not a fan of European movies (except for Italian films), especially French and German ones although 'Goodbye Lenin' was alright.

    I am number four.

A few plot holes, overly predictable, still a good taste wasting. Feels like a movie that could be part of a really in good story.

To bad it had Bay's fingers over it

Solaris was a bit ... slow.

    Not seen the original.

    Which is?

    ~

    The Kids Are Alright

Annette Benning and Julianne Moore's lesbian marriage is turned upside down by the appearance of the sperm-donor to their children; Mark Ruffalo.

Solid performances all round. Very watchable.

Nice to see some realistic fucking scenes too, none of this soft-focus, saxophone-backing sex-scene shit Hollywood normally spews.

    7/10

Then maybe you should have stated that instead of this:

^^lol ok, next time I make a comment about something as trivial as whether or not I liked a movie, I'll make sure to include an essay length response, so the likes of you won't jump on my case

But, yes, I know of the problems with the movie and how it shifted focus.

See, that was a much better use of mr. Clooney right there!

Tropa de Elite. A movie about the special police forces in Brazil fighting against the narcotic issues. I found it somewhat lacking. Surely, it conveyed that there is corruption in Brazil etc., but as a movie it was not that enticing. I'd rather watch a documentary about it, if you know what I mean.
Tomorrow is like an empty canvas that extends endlessly, what should I sketch on it?

    Another oldie for me:

Casino - A Martin Scorcese film starring Robert De Niro, Sharon Stone & Joe Pesci

Good movie with good performances from all involved (Sharon Stone plays the fucked up ex-hooker wife so well...you could believe she was playing herself ) but I loved the way Scorcese captures the era with the styles of clothes, cars, buildings, decor and even weapons - You could watch this movie just to see the fucking suits De Niro wears!

I also watched The Usual Suspects again - after reading Tim's list it got me thinking about this film for the first time in years - I enjoyed watching it again even if I did know how it ended.

Granted, but maybe there should be some soft of C-span equivalent (G-span?), so say his buttocks could be displayed in a more appropriate venue, and ponderous films left to ponder by themselves.

    Transformers 3.

Felt a little long, but there was plenty of action, so you never had time to think it was dragging along.

But there was blood, the robots bleed, and that was stupid and creepy.

Teaser trailer not actually that great. Don't care, looking forward to it anyways.

Cap's suit looks worse in this one than in his own movie, though.

Tinker, taylor, soldier, spy, was amazing. Great atmosphere, great acting, great story that kept me interested the whole time! And the director, an actor, and the composer were at the screening

Frit fald, danish movie. Meh. Felt like it took twice as long as it actually took. Acting was so-so, story a bit cliche, and the director didn't seem to be able to pick one style.

Meek's cutoff. Way too slow, and required concentration that I didn't have due to hangover, so we left..

..to make it in time for beyond, swedish film. I liked it a lot, though very heavy and depressing. I recommend it!

I'm liking my ' film professional' badge that entitles me to free viewings tomorrow maybe blue bird, saturday ten short student films (i know 4 of the directors), and hopefully 50/50, where seth rogen will attend!

Been out for alittle while. But X-men first class was really good, probably all in all the best of the X-men series, even if the ending didn't impress me too much (seemed a little drawn out), and had a bit of cheesiness "call me magneto" However, other than that it featured a charismatic and mobile Professor X, it was very interesting, and had a lot of fun and creative use of powers.

  28. #658
I loved that movie but I really wish they'd picked some better mutants

    Magneto stole the whole show

We saw Contagion. Maybe two stars. Great cast, interesting plot (if you're into pandemics or the politics behind that kind of thing), but overall very thin, sort of disjointed, and meh. Could have been a made-for-tv-movie or direct to DVD. I was entertained because I don't get out much lately, or see many theatre movies, and the place had a haunted Halloween hallway.

I saw 'The Road' yesterday - a Cormac McCarthy painfest with an emaciated Aragorn taking the lead. Most of the apocalyptic scenery reminded me of my first impressions of England in late autumn.

But it is a mature and responsible look at 'family' and all that entails, and it's very well done.

    4/5 stars.
