It certainly will, no need to rearrange the seating as I know who's coming. If people think they can manipulate it for whatever reason, they've got another thing coming.

    Voted tonight

And early prognosis says Wilders' party lost about half of their seats. Yay!

Well, not half of their seats but almost half and that still makes me happy.
    Congratulations America

Car runs, still has its original pep so far. Zero check engine lights. A few hours of shooting water out of the engine block, a week of sitting, and a $39 oil change was all I needed to get my wheels back.

So, today was my appointment with the new dentist. I had already told him that the previous dentist was a bit ... underwhelming when it came to anesthesia.

Dosage number one. Actually hit the right spot - still pain left, though. Number two - bit less pain. Number three finally disabled the nerve completely and he was able to complete drilling. He suspects that the tooth was already inflamed a bit and thus way more sensitive than usual. Anyway, old filling (amalgam) has been replaced by a ceramic version which is simply invisible.

Will have to see if that finally got rid of this tooth being pressure-sensitive sometimes.

One problem though: The jaw muscles hurt a bit due to the multiple needle injections.

Now, if only the anesthesia wore off completely - I haven't eaten for 8 hours now

    Congrats to both of you!

Made me sorta happy (in a weird way) to see these two posts in proximity, weighing long term pleasures against short term pains.

Finally got published (as in the article is now available online).

Money wins again, Chick-fil-A has caved. No more donating to anti-gay groups. And its currently pushing out internal memos reminding staff that everyone deserves equal rights and treatment in the workplace.

Religious convictions can always be bought. Though, I'm glad of this news. Hope they will make a public announcement soon.

Shouldn't be too hard in the social sciences. Just play the Social Science bullshit bingo!

The biology method of having a hundred authors, most of whom don't even know the paper is published, is clearly better.

That's true for me - I think I'm listed on about 5 papers that I only found through pubmed. One of the delights of time spent working in a big group that publishes a lot

I have not written a single word for 11 of the 13 papers which list me as an 'author'. I think I wrote 100 words for the other 2. Making up for it now, currently writing my first paper with me as first author .

8 words per paper. Pretty impressive. Your field cares much more about grants than publications, no (or is that just the US)? And a publication where you're not a first author barely carries any weight at all from what I've been told.

On call, first 8 hours were among the most hectic and panicky so far and yet I find myself ridiculously happy because I have a wonderful ginger who does things like coming over unasked with a perfectly timed surprise delivery of a latte and a delicious praline. I am a lucky man <3 gonna put that in the county's suggestion box

It depends on your role and the sort of projects you work on. Most of my work is in production bioinformatics and lab tracking software for large-scale projects. Being in the middle group of authors (i.e. the people who do the real work ) on a few Nature & Nature Genetics papers is useful for me, but wouldn't work so well for people on the PhD -> Post-doc -> PI track.
