It took the police 90 seconds between the call and them being dispatched.

And even then, as previously mentioned, how would you differentiate friend from foe? Although in broad daylight, some orange haired maniac with his getup would stand out like a sore thumb, at a Batman Premier, he may just be an overzealous fan.

    Because they do

If you ever come to Warrington there's a memorial where 2 children were murdered by the IRA outside McDonald's in the shopping centre. There are many other examples like that. Even when no action was taken, was visiting the UK on holiday in the 90s and in a shopping centre when the centre was evacuated due to a bomb scare.

I also recall when I lived in Aus a nightclub in Bali getting bombed.

Buses and all sorts of general everyday things were constantly targeted in Israel.

    ETA targetted many similar things.

    Etc, etc

Went tonight to a midnight viewing of Batman (not launch night) - sort of creepy in the circumstances but amazing.

Natural News is the tin foil hat central it seems. Had many an argument with a "friend" over her posting their rants about vaccinations.

*No responsible concealed-carry gun owner would try to "take down" any target they can't see*. In a dark, smokey room, filled with lots of civilians, KIDS and chaos, being responsible means not shooting. That was the point. Police arrived on the scene within 90 seconds of the first 911 call. Great response time! But first responders aren't routinely outfitted like SWAT, with gas masks and head-to-toe ballistic protections. Some of them are lucky enough to have kevlar vests for routine duty (!) They wouldn't have gone into the theatre with guns blazing either....that's stereotypical movie myth.

Veldan, unarmed movie-goers aren't "pussies". That's an insult. On the other hand, "armed yahoos" are idiots with guns, who'd try to shoot a target they can't see, in a roomful of innocent movie-goers. Insult intended.

Apparently the death toll from this should have been a lot higher, except the guy's main assault rifle jammed.

(I guess the reason would be out of respect for the dead, but I'd have kept it on and maybe just said a few words regarding the situation)
I'm betting it was for actor safety. Nothing more and nothing less. WB cancelled multiple appearances by the crew.

The lawsuits against the theater chain will be ginormous.
Maybe its a local ordinance you have to deal with. My parents used to sneak us in via those exits and the theaters I use don't set off any alarms if you use those doors. The idea of a teen hitting that door and forcing the evacuation of 16 possibly full theaters... no.

I don't see how someone is going to successfully hold the theater accountable.

Anyone who starts a fire fight in a crowded smoke filled room is a yahoo According to witness accounts the shooter was only firing at people who were moving, so if anyone had tried to position themselves to go against him would have become an immediate target. Thats why the current hero is that teen who held down his younger brother/cousin and stopped them from trying to run off. I don't see how having other people armed would have made this tragedy turn out any better. If anything I see this spilling out onto the street with a higher bodycount with the possibility of having even fewer questions answered (and no warning about the apartment being booby trapped).

OG: Not a theater wide alarm, but an alarm in the managers office, box office and concession stand that lets the staff know that someone is sneaking in. Even the dumps I have worked in had them. It's not loud, but generally a persistent beep and small console light or alarm pad that chimes and says which door is open.

Generally in today's age it's an insurance requirement.

And yes, reasonable people can see to not hold the theater accountable, but when was the last time you saw a reasonable ambulance chaser and jury after a tragedy like this?

Dutch news mentioned somebody is suing warner bros, and the cinema, and its attending medical staff. not much detail or confirmation goes with it though.

The guy who filed the lawsuit was uninjuried, but his friend died. He is accusing WB of making the movie to loud and life like, which made it hard to tell when the shooting started; the theater because the shooter did not enter with the paying viewers, and the doctors of the shooter for not monitoring their patient.

Next he can sue his lawyers for allowing him to file this lawsuit.

Unbelievably crass and inaccurate. 's not like Obama has initiated much original foreign policy, he's just continued those of his predecessors. Well, it's not like anyone on here claimed only the Dems did this sort of thing after the Giffords shooting.

What did they do after the Giffords shooting then? I only remember gun control debates, which seems reasonable enough to talk about.

He's actually stepped up drone attacks against Yemen and Pakistan. Not inconceivable that those killed over a thousand people more than would be the the case with the previous status quo. Of course equating the two types of killing is idiotic.

I wonder, if they were not attacked by drones, they would presumably be better at organizing attacks in afghanistan/the world, how much collateral damage that would cause. As I understand it the rate of collateral damage is quite high with the drone attacks (arguably the militants themselves are fair game, being in a war with the US).

It's actually quite low, far lower than with the use of troops. There was just a study on this and it showed that only something like 15% of people killed with drones are civilians, compared to about half with most other strategies (including when the Pakistani army attacks its own territory).

Wait, you mean blaming the politicians and their aggressive language? The bullseye on giffords, etc.

Isn;t that partly because officially, any male over 16 is considered a combatant?

No, they actually did a more detailed analysis. And you can make the same claim about other strategies anyway.

IT BURNS. THE STUPIDITY IT BURNS. I think my rods and cones may permanently be damaged, not even a retina transplant can help. You guys should read some of those Youtube comments. It's almost like all the stupidity in the US coalesced into a single, lone comment.

  24. #54
I remember the first days when you could vote up comments. Then you actually had funny ones gathered at top. But eventually they were driven away by spam and silly gags. The rest of the comments have never been readable, but that goes for most news sites even.
Tomorrow is like an empty canvas that extends endlessly, what should I sketch on it?

This is what I hate about America.
