    False.

It was projected that the unemployment rate was going to be 25% prior to Obama bailing us out.
By whom? What does this prove or disprove?

And in all honesty, we can't criticize the plan all that much because they had to act fast.
Why did they? Who are they? You have any proof?

Prove me wrong, but such a large investment should require companies to provide the government with transparencies and in this case, no such demands were made because they didn't have time for that kind of crap.
How do you know that "because they didn't have time for that kind of crap."?

Anyways, we had to use a fiscal policy and run up the deficit in order to salvage whatever was left of the economy.
That's your opinion, and just not true in fact based on many facts that show the stimulus was wasted, and based on my own personal observations of highway on-ramp enlargement in upper New York and Vermont where there no such enlargement was needed. (1 car every half a minute to a minute is not a busy highway)

And I was wondering, are we going to blame Obama for running up the deficit?
    That's what he did.

Are we not going to credit him with saving the economy?
Why should we? How did he save the economy? DID he save the economy? What economy?

I know what those lying rightist are going to do at the next election...
What are they going to do? And why are they lying? And what are they lying about?

    EDIT:
"Any economists will say that when people hoard their money and don’t spend it, there will be a “rosy future” and the long-run will be much more prosperous than the short-run."

WHAT A GEM. Did you pervert that from a "factoid" of some inane history book?

When people don't spend money, they don't influence the economy. That's the only thing you can say. Modern economists agree that developed countries should endeavor for a balanced public and private fiscal policy, which you will horribly fail at understanding...

But, let's give it a whirl...

Then, of course, you get into the definitions of "saving" money and "investing" money. If you consider "saving" money to be actual investment (into banks), and banks are actually acting normally and re-investing this money into private enterprise, then private savings equals private investment, and higher investment means higher growth in most models. However, these "most" models do not consider the benefit of spending money immediately, which raises human capital. (for instance, spending money to buy better quality food instead of junk food that rots your brain and saps your health -- that is an investment that cannot be easily recorded)

A better measure for financial soundness in an economy is measured by taking a look at a country's trade deficit in tandem with actual living conditions.

The "living conditions" measure is called "HDI" (human development index) -- that measure is done by various organizations every year for almost every country.

HDI measures (edit: except for the original "normal" HDI, before Loki complains) take many questions and put a number on it -- questions that *could* include: "What percentage of people have a roof over their heads, and how leaky is it? What's the average education level? What's the infant life expectancy rate? What's the crime rate? How's the nutrition level? What's the political stability--got coup? What's the median income (adjusted for domestic prices of food and haircuts) and what's the "gini coefficient" of the population income? How much do people work and how much do they play?"

The original HDI just takes 3 variables -- education, life expectancy, and income.. because that's all there was to human Resistance when HDI was dreamed up. (well, not really, but those 3 factors were the only statistics available)

The trade deficit affects the possible future spending of an economy. If it's positive, this is possibly bad because it means that people aren't spending as much as they could have to increase their HDI. If it's negative, it's possibly bad because people are possibly wastefully spending money to very marginally increase their HDI at the cost of future reduced HDI spending.

Edit to the 10th power: There are a number of measures that could be called "HDI" measures, though, again, only one measure officially qualifies. I'm liking this measure at the moment:

Bush caused the crisis, and now republicans want to blame Obama.
Anyone with a bit of memory could remember that by the end of Bush administration you had a loss of half a million jobs per month.
Freedom - When people learn to embrace criticism about politicians, since politicians are just employees like you and me.

First of all, productivity is a lot higher here, too. Second, the costs of living are a lot lower there too. If I would work for a multinational and work in a third world country, my salary would be adjusted down, too.

So the logic here is apparently:

A liar that admits he is a liar is less of a liar than someone suspected of being a liar but does not admit to being a liar.

IMO the biggest issue is not "You should not lie on an internet forum." it is "Why would you lie on an internet forum?"

If anything, this is a place where you can be completely honest and face no ramifications - real life is not always so accepting.

Telling lies about who you are and what you have done simply to undermine another persons position in a debate is pathetic, it will always be pathetic regardless of the reasons you use to justify it.

Then colearly I should never have come clean. Oh, wait....

Or, we could believe Cain's fantastical stories. Loki's lies are the more dishonest manipulation of posts. They are right there for everybody to see.

Fun Fact: I didn't even know Tear had ever claimed to have had a military background until he made a thread confessing he'd lied about it. In fact, every single piece of information he revealed as false in his confession thread was news to me.

Again you seem to think we should RESPECT you for admitting that you are a liar...

The curious thing now though ][ear is that you are the one constantly reminding people of your status as a self-confessed compulsive liar - it is as if you believe it is something that should be respected.

Perhaps if you chose to move on, then others would do the same - losing that ridiculous sig might be a good start.

    Spoiler:
    go spam some other threads

And Bush stimulated the economy prior to running. I can't believe the Feds are in bed with them politicians. But seriously, Bush caused an economy who was already producing either at its or close to its "limit". Short-run= everyone benefited
Long-run= see what we have right now.

One lie? Once again, are you serious? You've lied about just about every aspect of your history just to make yourself look good. When we talk about the military, you're ex-military. When we talk about religion, you're an ex-Christian. When we talk about Republicans, you're an ex-Republican. But you're right, no lies there. Remind me when I have ever said anything about myself that wasn't true.

I think it's Bush's fault for lowering taxes and adding to the deficit by borrowing money from China. He caused this.

And facepalm was for the two princesses having a cat fight over who gets to be Cain's date to prom.

Because the president passes budgets, right?

  16. #76
Oh yes, I forgot. There's never been a lasting legacy or ramification(s) left by any presidents which outlasted their term(s).

You should read the history book from the chapter that starts with Nixon and read all the way through Reagan.

So where are your attacks against the Democratic Congress that passed the last several of Bush's budgets?

    Spoiler:
I thought the previous presidents didn't fuck up America too badly. Hell, they even got us a surplus.

  20. #80
By "presidents", do you mean Clinton along with a Republican Congress? Because Bush Sr. and Reagan had massive deficits (though the former had them due to the latter).

Details, details. Who cares. All I know is that GWB fucked up America real good. Hell, I don't know who's worse. James Buchanan or Monkey Man.

    Slight redemption?

Why wouldn't you? A really clever individual not burdened by too much integrity could have a lot of fun with that.

Except it doesn't work that way. This is still a community and there are real ramifications. What do you think all this fighting is about?

    On this we agree.

In all seriousness, and I know you're being sarcastic, but I think you shouldn't have. Nobody appears to be better off for it.

Same here. This is sort of what I meant by above.

I had Loki on ignore for a while. He's a lot better now, though. That or I'm different. Or both. I had Lewk on ignore before too, but I'm better now. He's not. Just me. That was years ago, of course. In a different place.
