Thread: What game are you playing now?

  1. #1651
    D/L'd last night ...

Early reviews are very good, getting 90%s and 9/10s.

I really liked the previous Annos in the series, so have high expectations.

  2. #1652
Wow, that looks pretty. Didn't know there was a new Anno coming out.

  3. #1653
    Issit out already!?

Must have more hours in day

    Came out on friday.

Just finished the short tutorial campaigns.

It is very similar in play to the previous Annos, but with futuristic stuff rather than old.

Same town centre idea, houses whose citizens' desires you need to satisfy so they can move up to next level, production chains, trade. Haven't combatted yet.

Seems they've stuck with their successful formula without anything drastically new.

A few extra bits thrown in, 2 difference factions to choose from; polluting industry tycoon-types or muesli-eating eco dudes. Underwater research stations are new too.

    Pretty too.

    Worth the purchase methinks.

Ok, so I got Anno 2070. What a total bitch to install

First the auto patcher was patching for an hour resetting to patch 11 of 18 every time it got to patch 17 of 18. Downloaded the offline patcher, then it worked.

Then I had to create an online account for offline play. In offline play I couldn't use just any name, I had to have a unique online name. Son of a goddamn bitch. I fucking don't want to play online, leave me alone you piece of shit crap motherhumper of a Ubiinstaller.

Yup; recently, a lot of these types of builder games (1) have been made in Europe... (2) have had lots and lots of bugs on release. Seriously, I am getting tired of all the bugs and fail-DRM* mish-mash. If you want most expensively-produced games properly patched, it seems you always need to wait at least a few months.

*since euros pirate moar and play moar of these kinds of games, I hear...

You're a moron, Aga. Piracy is not a uniquely European issue.

Ah, I was hoping for the insults to start flowing from you again once you had exhausted the usual suspects. :\ Note that I never said "piracy is a uniquely European issue", I said.. well, you can look in the post?

EDIT-- BTW, here you go, asstard dear.

    http://www.economist.com/node/21526299 :

Media piracy is more common in the developing world than in the rich world (see chart). The most piratical countries are places like China, Nigeria and Russia, where virtually all media that is not downloaded illegally is sold in the form of knock-off CDs and DVDs. But there is also great variation among rich countries. Piracy is far more widespread in the Mediterranean than it is in northern Europe, including Britain. America may be the least piratical country of all—oddly, since Napster was born there.

First you paint all of Europe with a broad brush and then you cry when someone calls you out on it.

Did you actually read your source? And with "read", I mean: comprehend what it's saying? First of all you're an idiot for lumping all of Europe together, that's almost excusable since you're an idiot US-American who obviously is geographically challenged. Repeat after me: "Europe" is not a single governmental entity.
Secondly, your own source says that "Northern Europe has less piracy than the Mediterranean". Since you're geographically challenged, I also want to point out that "Mediterranean" also includes Africa and Asia.
Thirdly, your source, again, I might add, adds a qualifier to its statement which makes the whole thing not as absolute as you make it out to be: "America may be the least piratical country of all"

In the future, the Berlin wall will be a mile high, and made of steel. You too will be made to crawl, to lick children's blood from jackboots. There will be no creativity, only productivity. Instead of love there will be fear and distrust, instead of surrender there will be submission. Contact will be replaced with isolation, and joy with shame. Hope will cease to exist as a concept. The Earth will be covered with steel and concrete. There will be an electronic policeman in every head. Your children will be born in chains, live only to serve, and die in anguish and ignorance.
The universe we observe has precisely the properties we should expect if there is, at bottom, no design, no purpose, no evil, no good, nothing but blind, pitiless indifference.

Also, file sharing software doesn't equal piracy. Thats a stupid claim to be defending.

Right, because I said that there was some sort of definitive proof in the article, or I claimed as much...

The concepts laid out in the article are still relevant, and it's about both price and access; if the price is right, it's an issue of legitimate availability of the product. If the price isn't right, then legitimate availability is not an issue.

businesses usually aren't there to price something out of reach. Not saying games shuold be cheap, but they also aren't aiming for the 1%. Generally speaking on the PC side of things, not wanting to pay for AAA titles on release doesn't have to mean the title is going to be stolen. Its almost all about access. If the pirates provide better access, they win. If there is a legitimate service that provides better access they win. Sites like GOG.com actually see most of their first time visitors, and their highest profits, from clicks that originate on tracker websites.

Anyway, I picked up Need for Speed: The Run, from Origin for $20. I own most of, it not all of the NFS titles, but haven't played them a whole lot after Underground. I know they tried this storyline thing starting back with Underground, but.... holy shit.

The game is exciting from the get go. The controls seem a little arcadey, but it barely feels like it belongs in the same racing genre as the Underground or older titles. Its got a run for the hills type of feel to it, and there is always something going on. 250 racers, cops all over the fucking place, traffic, eye candy all over the roads, etc. The game is talking to you so much, it never gives you a chance to take in whats going on. If it didn't feel so linear I'd compare it to the old Cannonball movie, but the path is very well marked off with shortcuts obviously placed and short enough to be used as overtakes instead of secret speed paths.

I've only played about 10 minutes of it, no idea how the multiplayer is tied in, but what I've seen is enough to get me to come back to it tonight after work.

I'll also say that a lot of games don't come with a demo, and downloading them to see if it actually works also helps. It's a minority, but I've purchased several games after illegally downloading them and playing them.

Wonder what driving games like that above run like on a 4-5 yr old PC ... ?

Choppy and slow as ever I'd imagine.

You could still play cool old driving games, and I'm pretty sure LEGO racers will work

Well, after pre-ordering Fallout 3, I swore I'd never pay for another game before trying it first, and with only one exception, I've done just that. Not that I'm necessarily nuts enough to pay release date prices, of course, but buying the game is buying the game.

Guess someone had to like something about it for it to sell so well. It mostly just pissed me off, on account of how shitty it was compared to FO2, and how it made me crave a gaming fix for a game so old that the graphics make it just unplayable on a modern screen. <sigh> Gawdam j00s, or something.

You're exaggerating. . . I hope. Fallout:NV, though, seems really stale compared to Fallout 3. Too much desert. The desert part of Fallout 3 was really boring.

My kids have been playing Sky Rim, or something about Elder Scrolls?

I'm looking for a nicely packaged Backgammon set to give them for Christmas. Maybe something combining Chess. Pretty tall order, if it's not a digital game or smart phone app. Oy

Really? Saw loads of them while xmas shopping yesterday. Some really classy ones in department stores like John Lewis. Maybe better to try a classy department store instead of a game place?

Most cities here have shops dedicated to board games, and otherwise you can always order it online, and wrap it nicely yourself
