Thread: What movie did you see today?

  1. #181
Just finished The Book of Eli. Decent if a bit cliched, but man was the end amusing. As they solemnly put the new printing of the KJV onto the shelf, they place it right next to a Hebrew-English translation of the entire OT (the Artscroll Tanach, one of the most common Hebrew Bible translations out there now). So much for it being the 'only one' left.

Heh, I turned on the television this evening and it was still on the Cartoon Network. Saw Robin Williams and and thought I'd watch for a minute.

Flubber has to be the dopiest kids movie I have seen in ages, but I watched the whole damned thing.
We're stuck in a bloody snowglobe.

  3. #183
Today I watched Serpico, with Al Pachinko, then I watched Aria.

  4. #184
Just watched I'm Still Here. Sorta don't even know what to think.

  5. #185
Saw Due Date, it was pretty funny but RDJ was a dick. One car crash scene in particular was very hard to watch as it was incredibly similar to something that's happened to my sister.

Took the kids to see Megamind last night.

Quick Review: Wonderfull animation, like the existential twist on the standard super-hero story, great soundtrack. 4/5 stars.

Toy Story 3. A little far out there compared to the first 2, but its a great kids movie, stuffed full of adult only jokes, and the few moments of "how they get there / do that" were limited enough that the kids didn't notice them.

They did an extremely wonderful job with such a sad movie, they could have cut it off right before Andy opens the box he is donating and it would have been even sadder.

Yeah, I liked it too. Well done, though I'd say the rescue in the end was a deus ex machina. (lazy)

And last week I saw Jackass 3D. 3D Diarrhea Though the best scene didn't involve vulgarity or excessive violence or pain, but a lot of midgets

Saw My Sister's Keeper couple 'o nights ago.

Story based on the novel by someoneorother, about a girl who develops leukaemia, so the parents create an IVF daughter to act as a donor to keep her elder sister alive.

Kid reaches 10 or 11 years old and sue's her family for medical emancipation, so as not to donate anymore.

Pretty good movie, if a little OTT in the typical Hollywood/schmaltzy kinda way.

I noticed the other day that Paranormal Activity was available for streaming from Netflix, so I watched it in between things on my iPad.

Quick Review: It's a scary film if you can get past the guy stopping to grab the camera to film things that ought to be very alarming. That was the same problem in The Blair Witch Project. The fact that the couple slept with their door open every night despite an invisible three-toed demon walking around the house was also stretching the imagination a bit, but that was necessary to do many of the scenes effectively. But the acting was good, the story and the incremental upping of tension and creep factor was effective. All in all, I was spooked. 4/5 stars.

I used this filming style for a final project* in Video Tech class during Junior High School. I am unimpressed with it, as it didn't show any innovation over earlier similar filming methods.

*Although the project sounds a lot better now. The story was of a scientific research station set up in the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter, from the perspective of an accident investigation team reviewing the station's security footage and crew's personal video diaries in regards to an SUV sized asteroid on a collision course with the station. Thrust maneuvers to reposition the station fail, a repair detail would arrive only after the collision, and the research station's lone spacecraft only has enough fuel to fly out, use it thrusters to slightly change the trajectory of the asteroid to barely miss the station, and then sit stranded floating in space until life support systems fail. The video doesn't depict whether they are successful or not, but how the crew decides, and fights over, whom to send to a particularly lonely, slow death by asphyxiation without a guarantee that the plan will work at all.

    Spoiler:

I liked the police ending. A little predictable and over played, but given the movie as a whole, it set up the idea of possession as something thats come and go, uncontrollable. The way it ended, with a single person still at large, meh.

  21. #201
    Dammit. I missed that. BRB.

EDIT: I can't find any serious alternate endings except when katie cuts her own throat. No police one at all. The guy pissing the bed is all over, disguised as a real ending.

My friend's entire family thinks it's all real, even after I went to lengths to show them all of the alternate endings and the screw ups in the deleted scenes. It messed her up so bad, she swore up and down she was possessed by some demon after a few nightmares the following week.

  23. #203
Did they remove the alt endings from youtube?

    Anyway:
    Spoiler:

After the screams the chick is seen returning to the bedroom, with a knife, covered in blood. She sits on the floor and rocks, a friend calls asking about them, but she doesn't move. After some time the police come in, and she seems to snap out of her trance. She starts fumbling towards the bedroom door (looking about 11 levels of confused), I think with the knife still, and gets put down by the police.

This is a short scene from it, with someone dubbing stupidness over it.

The door in the background slamming right before she falls...

Oh, there were official alt endings posted? I wonder if they came with the DVD and when people posted them on you tube the filmmaker's bitched so they took them down.

    How to Train Your Dragon.

Previews had me going into this expecting an entirely different movie. What I got was much, much, better.
Besides, it had Vikings and Dragons. Gotta love that! Giving them pet characteristics, that mashed so well, that was just icing.

The little one was the best, even if his scene was predictable and only lasted for a few seconds.
