    I did too.

    I got a PS3 exclusively for Gran Turismo 3.

Tho I returned the PS3 to the shop 1 week later when I came to terms with the fact that ~£300 was a bit excessive for a fekkin game, now matter how good it is. No other console game appealed.

Saying that tho, I must have paid more than that for WoW when you add up purchase plus expansions plus monthly subs over the years I played it. :/

I bought my first PS2 because of the Atari Test Drive beta.

I can't think of ever getting a console for just 1 game, but have got a library of games for each console because of getting the consoles.

Steam didn't put Racoon City on sale, the one game Brent had been looking forward to. Luckily BestBuy is selling it for $15 this week, down from $60. Already ordered a copy and Brandy should be able to pick it up on the way home from the zoo. This should be a nice welcome home present for him.

Got into the technical test for Planetside 2.

Since I'm under an NDA, I can't really say too much about it, other than that they're moving in the right direction. Still needs some work, though.

This makes me happy. We won't have anything left to play if companies like this gain dominance.

Looks like SWTOR will be going free to play in Nov.

Steam has finally joined the bandwagon, their new EULA includes the no class action lawsuits clause that everyone and their mother has been including.

    No surprise there.

A multitude of problems with the game, not the least of which was making it a WoW-clone with light-sabres.

And a bad WoW-clone at that, regarding the actual game mechanics.

No. From what I've seen the storyline is going to made free to play. The pay model, both via subscription and the auction house will be restricted to those players.

I figure you were likely trying another one of your zingy 1 liners, but there is a difference between Free to Play and Free to Pay in the freemium market. SWTOR seems to be restricting free players from being able to pay to win without also getting a subscription.

Endless Space. 4x tbs. Looks promising.

I thought it was pretty meh. Not bad, really, just not very good either. Combat is pretty boring, and there just didn't seem to be very much depth to the game.

    Wow, you guys work fast.

From what I read I hoped for an Ascendancy type of game, which I loved. Sins of a Solar Empire fudged that one up after I got my hopes up as well. Hmm, there's a pattern emerging here

Never played Ascendancy, so I can't compare.

I'm looking at the upcoming Legends of Pegasus, though. I feel a bit burned on Endless Space, so I'm waiting for a demo or a positive review here before trying it.

The descriptions for all new 4X games read exactly the same. How the Hell are you supposed to guess which games will be worthwhile? Games 'journalism' sucks, and user reviews from the 'net are all over the place as is to be expected.

I'm gonna be playing Master of Magic well into the 2020's, aren't I
In the future, the Berlin wall will be a mile high, and made of steel. You too will be made to crawl, to lick children's blood from jackboots. There will be no creativity, only productivity. Instead of love there will be fear and distrust, instead of surrender there will be submission. Contact will be replaced with isolation, and joy with shame. Hope will cease to exist as a concept. The Earth will be covered with steel and concrete. There will be an electronic policeman in every head. Your children will be born in chains, live only to serve, and die in anguish and ignorance.
The universe we observe has precisely the properties we should expect if there is, at bottom, no design, no purpose, no evil, no good, nothing but blind, pitiless indifference.

Please don't have them screw this up.

So says (possibly disgruntled) ex-employees, take with a pinch of salt.

May have been said, but take anything ex-employees say with salt.

Considering their line-up, it's perfectly believable. No grain of salt needed.
