So, there was no reason to think that Bannon was going to be anything but confrontational with the media during a joint appearance with Trump White House chief of staff Reince Priebus at the annual Conservative Political Action Conference on Thursday afternoon.

But, even by Bannon's standards, he seemed to ramp up his attacks on the media and offer a very clear message to political journalists: You think this is bad? Just wait.

“It's going to get worse every day for the media,” Bannon said, insisting that the “corporatist” media would continue to see Trump pursue exactly the sort of economic nationalism that journalism allegedly despises. Then he added this call to arms: “If you think they are giving you your country back without a fight, you are sadly mistaken.”

Corbyn would make a worse Prime Minister than Brown, but he's not in Trump's league. Corbyn's just Bernie Sanders without the charisma or energy. For example, I read an article the other day, by a medical professional, seriously questioning, whether or not the President of the United States was suffering from neurosyphilis. I don't think that would happen in the unlikely event of a Corbyn ministry.

As for the how, well, the Republican party and the right wing media has been stirring up this kind of populist, non-specific resentment of something something elites for decades because they thought they could use it to get their agenda through, and now it's bitten them in the ass, and by them I mean the country and the entire world. The Republicans themselves appear to be content to use Trump as an opportunity to fuck people over enact their agenda fuck people over, and don't seem even a little bit sorry about what they have wrought.

The media in the US, and the political climate there in general, has a culture of rampant both sideism, that only actually 'works' (for a certain value of 'works') when the two candidates are both reasonable people. But because of this, the media did not give the Trump the proper scrutiny he should have gotten during the general, and basically gave him a load of free publicity during the primary because ratings (the campaign managers of the other candidates were, I hear, absolutely furious and rightly so).

Hillary and the Dems made some errors too, but in no sane universe should Trump ever have been in a position to profit from them.

It's been pretty hilarious seen the absolutely mental response to Trump's new NSA from Fox's viewers. Trump: 'Nobody knew that healthcare could be so complicated'

President Trump said Monday that "nobody knew that healthcare could be so complicated," as Republicans have been slow to unite around a replacement plan for ObamaCare.

"I have to tell you, it's an unbelievably complex subject," Trump said after a meeting with conservative governors at the White House.

The GOP governors were in town this weekend for their annual conference and met with Trump to talk about a variety of things, but it's likely the conversation largely focused on healthcare.

Governors have been split on what should be done with ObamaCare's Medicaid expansion, which brought health coverage to many even in deep-red states.


Trump didn't publicly address that issue Monday morning, but said ObamaCare's repeal and replacement will give states more flexibility "to make the end result really, really good for them."
"We have come up with a solution that's really, really good I think. Very good."

Trump also dismissed polls that show support for ObamaCare is at an all-time high.

The latest tracking poll from the Kaiser Family Foundation showed that 48 percent view the law favorably compared to the 42 percent who don't.

"People hate it but now they see that the end is coming and they say, 'Oh ,maybe we love it.' There's nothing to love. It's a disaster, folks."

It's not just that - I also am troubled by the precedent of trying to pry into ostensibly private records by Congressional fiat. While I have zero respect for Trump and think his tax returns would likely play very poorly politically, I think the broader issue raised by the GOP is a reasonable one.

I see it more along the lines of keeping someone at their word, especially when you've got the threat of a foreign power like Russia possibly influencing things. Trump's conflicts should be a huge concern and this isn't the only time the GOP has blocked opening that can of worms.

See, this is my problem with you in political discussion, OG. You do this all the time. Either you're a crappy communicator and never remember to include the material you're talking about, or you're really so poorly educated that you can't remember/don't understand basic structural elements of the US government.

REALLY not Congress' job. Making sure an elected president keeps the promises they made during the campaign is the job of the Executive, and the electorate who voted the person into office. Congress has its own tasks. And you would have been SCREAMING if a GOP Congress tried to hold Obama to various less-than-committed campaign promises he'd made in 2008 and 2012.

It is, and that's why I said a few days earlier I thought having those records released to Congress made a reasonable compromise. I also recognize though that it's an extraordinary set of circumstances and the precedent of doing so SHOULD be troubling. Really the correct way of going about it would be to have a select committee (which the House at large, nor the Ways and Means committee is not) already engaged in an investigation subpoena those returns as part of its investigation. That's not what this was.

resident Donald Trump suggested in an interview broadcast on Tuesday that former President Barack Obama was, in part, at fault for last month's raid in Yemen that resulted in the death of a Navy SEAL, even though it was Trump who gave the order to carry out the raid.

In an interview with "Fox & Friends" that aired Tuesday, Trump was asked how he felt that William Owens — whose son William "Ryan" Owens was killed in the raid in Yemen — didn't want to meet with Trump out of indignation because of the raid's botched execution.

"This was a mission that was started before I got here," Trump said. "This was something they wanted to do. They came to see me, they told me what they wanted to do, the generals, who are very respected — my generals are most respected we've had in many decades, I believe. And they lost Ryan."

The president acknowledged that Owens was upset about the loss of his son but passed the buck to his predecessor.

"I can understand people saying that," Trump said. "What's worse? There's nothing worse. But again, this was something that they were looking at for a long time."

The president has been criticized for hastily green-lighting the raid, which NBC News on Monday reported had not seemed to yield significant intelligence. Though Obama administration officials planned the raid, Obama passed the decision along to his successor to decide whether to execute it.

In an interview with the Miami Herald, Owens' father slammed Trump, demanding an inquiry into the raid's planning.

"Why at this time did there have to be this stupid mission when it wasn't even barely a week into his administration?" Owens said. "Why? For two years prior, there were no boots on the ground in Yemen — everything was missiles and drones — because there was not a target worth one American life. Now, all of a sudden we had to make this grand display?"

Though Trump told Fox News that the first several weeks of his presidency deserved an "A" grading, he blamed the previous administration for several of the White House's current woes.

In the interview, Trump said Obama was responsible for the surge in anti-Trump participation by constituents at congressional GOP town-hall-style meetings. The president also said information leaks from within the federal government were the result of remaining Obama administration officials attempting to negatively depict the new White House.
