I did think the GOP in Congress was going to be somewhat less craven than they turned out to be. I thought the initial pushback against Trump being obnoxious and treating them like minions would develop into something. And the courts have still been doing their jobs in the checks and balances department.

Trump admits to doing precisely that which he denied doing, making his defenders in the GOP look even more cretinous.

They've been trying but their scope for checking him seems to be very limited. Worth noting that DOJ apparently doesn't believe threatening judges warrants an enhanced sentence.
