Trying to quick edit this, and add a couple of options. Can't figure it out. Altering a poll requires a mod or admin after it's posted, it seems.

I will always be a kid on the inside.

    None of the above.

Legal 'Adulthood' is one thing, and yeah in that case I suppose it would be when you're 18, but really being an Adult is something entirely different, it requires the ability to take care of oneswlf without outside help, regardless of weather that is actualy being done.

What's that mean tho? I have a son who can take care of himself, hypothetically. My uncle was taking care of his mother and sister when he was just 15 years old, going to school and working odd jobs to make the rent and buy food, without any subsidy. But that was back in the 40s.

And I did try to add other options like none of the above or other please specify, but it was too late

That was one nice thing about the PhpBB, it allowed posters to edit their own polls. I wonder if it's an option with vBulletin? Which reminds me, I need to bump the Which forum you from thread and ask if the poll can be made public.

Huh? None of these. I don't agree with any of them. There should be a "none of these" option.

  9. #9
Would the options be applicable to those of 21+, thus making them legally 'adult'?

In my book that makes them "adult" then.

So you're not an adult unless or until you get grey hairs? How much longer must you wait for THAT? It also says nothing to address the Just For Men or Miss Clairol.

How should we judge guys who shave their heads? If I take my boy to a barber and say "give him the Marine cut", does that mean he's ready for the Marines?

You know you're an adult when you don't do something you want to do, not because you can't but because you have other responsibilities.

What book are you reading from?

Is there any way a 15 year old could go to school, work odd jobs, and still take care of his mother and sister, to help pay rent and buy food, without subsidy, in 2010?

    Better yet, should they?

I have many responsibilities. That's not always the reason I don't do/do something. But it's always in the back of my mind.

Tonight (last night) is a good example. Drinking more than I probably should, because I know tomorrow (today) I have no commitments.

There are probably many "adults" who stay up late and drink too much on Sunday nights, simply because they want to watch their football or hockey team, knowing full well they have to be at work Monday morning bright eyed and bushy tailed.

Am I more "adult" than they are because I plan better during the week, or are they more "adult" than me, because their behavior is geared toward the weekend?

Probably not, just means you are getting on a little.

How can we measure adulthood? Not sure as i see 2 sides to the coin - Legal being one of them. The other side being your post (#6). They don't go hand in hand but both equally as right as each other i feel. By law i can vote, etc, thus in the governments eyes i'm apparently an adult under my own interpretation of the law. However a 16 yr old doing a job of an adult is to me also a sign of 'adulthood'.

How much longer must you wait for THAT? It also says nothing to address the Just For Men or Miss Clairol.
It says plenty, the bloody insecure bastards. You've gone grey, deal with it. Just like i have to at the tender age of 24 (I found only a few strands but thats besides the point).

Nein! T'is only you describing what your boy is having as a haircut, to me that is.

    I don't know, I haven't reached that point yet

Also need an "all of the above" option. Or, when people whom you start to refer as sir/maam in social situations. Does maturity = adulthood? I think that the question she's asking. Gigi's comments about her uncle at age 15 show his maturity, though the law wouldn't recognize is adulthood.
The sunday night drinker, as an adult, will still drag his hungover ass out of bed and go work. cursing his own stupidity. As a "child" will drink without caring about work, wake up the next morning, get his hungover ass on the phone (or get someone to do it,nice) and call off work. Go back to bed, and then wonder why they're soon out of a job. so integrity and accountability play a part.
The worst job in the world is better than being broke and homeless

Thanks for adding the none of above Wraith

Gosh this poll sucks! I might pick military service, but at 18 I was still fairly immature and reckless.

I don't think I felt like my adulthood began until my dad died, when I was 20. Things changed pretty fast from then on. Maybe it's a process and that's why we have trouble setting ages for risky legal behaviors. Making "wise decisions" is fairly relative.

I'm going to say Porn Definition here. I'll know it when I see it. There's just too many exceptions to each of the options listed, IMO.
