In Sweden I payed 3k for fiber installation in my house. (That included some digging + installation)
My current isp has a few bw options, we currently use a pretty low one, 100/100 for 40$.
    A 1000/1000 is currently 85$. Since we stream/buffer 100/100 does the trick.

My phone plan is currenly 12$ for unlimited calls but low data.
For 72$ I used to have an unlimited cell phone data plan. (But I almost never used it).
Norway is horrible in that sense. 1000/1000 here is 207 dollars a month. They now also want 80 dollars a month, just to watch Premier League football in regular full HD... and then you don't get much else in terms of sports.

Following the thread topic, I am currently rewatching the anime Clannad and Clannad After Story. It's funny how this slice of life girly looking harem which I would probably be embarrassed to admit to anyone in real life that I watch, has probably had the most profound impact on my current persona, of everything I've ever watched or read in 28 years. I initially watched it when I was 16, and now rewatch it, thinking I would have grown out of it. Quite on the contrary, it surprisingly hit me just as hard. I would generally recommend anyone to lock themselves inside a room, and binge watch this with headphones on. It's kinda hard to introduce to people, due to how it looks when you google it, and that it starts off a bit slow... yet it gradually gets better and turns into the genuine masterpiece that it is. Especially the second season is like I said, maybe the most influential content piece I've ever lived to watch, and hits you so deep in the feels that it'll knock you out of every day balance for a week or two. 10/10.

Otherwise I've watched some other bangers lately. The Wire, Narcos, The Good Doctor, Breaking Bad. All great shows that I enjoyed the heck out of, but not nearly as influential as this stupid series with fictional characters, jeez.
Tomorrow is like an empty canvas that extends endlessly, what should I sketch on it?

lol! Well, I don’t watch soccer much. :P
I upgraded to 250/250... which is still 40$ that made alot of the evening problems go away.

But 1000/1000 is starting to sound like a good idea for 84$
But for stream buffering that isn’t really needed yet, many streams are still sub 4k or low bit rate quality.

    My current list:
    -Swedish survivor (cmore)
    -The handmaid’s tale (hbo)
    -Clarice (viaplay)
    -Snabba cash (netflix)
    -Mare of Easttown (hbo)

My favorite pandemic-era TV shows (in this order):

    - Shadow and Bone
    - Umbrella Academy
    - Ted Lasso

The two Marvel shows were ok, but lost a lot of steam by the end.

One certainly does not need more than 100 / 100 and a good Wifi 6 enabled router, to be honest. Highest bitrate streaming right now is like 25 or something right now. If you download remuxes of 4K UHD BluRays at 200GB each season of Game of Thrones, however, it's nice to have.

First few seasons are really good, though a bit slow at times.

I liked the first two seasons, then had to wait for new episodes and never bothered to pick it up again. Should I?

I did just start the bad batch. So far it's ok, looks promising. Especially since the other star wars animated shows really picked up after the first season. I expected it to be a bit more kid oriented, since the characters seem a bit funnier - but given that two episodes in there's already war crimes and executions, I don't think it will be.

It gets even slower and less believable (they kill so many people you'd think the FBI would become concerned). But the characters are still solid and the plot is generally interesting (though over the top).

I started watching it because you said the second season was better than the first (I gave up after a couple of episodes the first time).

The rest is absolutely fantastic, you should definitely watch it.

My wife absolutely loves it, just as she loved the Six of Crows audiobook. I haven't gotten around to checking out either tbh

It's a rare treat to watch a show that turns out to be this good when the villain is purposely written so poorly. That season finale was amazing.

For those that plan to watch, DO NOT binge this. You have to let this stuff get into your head. Give yourself at least a day between episodes.

Loki s01e01 "Glorious Purpose" aka. "Glorious Exposition"

Hiddleston takes some time to get back into character, whereas Wilson is excellent right from the start. Writing is still pretty clumsy but it doesn't suck as hard as tFatWsHgdkuwSgdf did. I think I'm gonna like this show

I was about to watch Loki and then On becoming a God in Central Florida caught my eye. The lesser God will have to wait.
    Congratulations America

Second episode of Loki still feels like they wrote a good script with decent dialogue and then sent in some misguided specialist to add expository dialogue and mess everything up. Just reassign that person to a different task pls. Owen Wilson is still excellent despite these annoying issues and other poorly vetted stylistic choices. Hiddleston not far behind. A lot of people at the TVA are just not very good from an acting perspective, and there's a lot of underwhelming and lazy dialogue.

But, with all that said, this was a great episode. Really looking forward to seeing where they take things from here.

I kinda liked episode one. But I'll have to review episode 2 as I watched that when someone decided to have a psychological meltdown that needed most of my attention.

Finished The Americans. Overall very enjoyable though sometimes there were some slip ups that made me feel the writers got sloppy towards the end.
    Congratulations America

Is Hulu still worth it? I've had a Hulu plus account for a while now, but I'm getting the feeling that besides the Handmaid's tale it's not really offering value for money any longer. Anybody has ony thoughts on this?
    Congratulations America

  21. #1611
I only had a Hulu account because my sons were paying for the "introductory" membership. Margaret Atwood is one of my favorite authors, but The Handmaid's Tale didn't meet my expectations. Some streaming services are worth the money, just to follow one series, but Hulu isn't one of them.

My sons also pay for Amazon Prime and Disney Plus (via their game consoles) but I've had better luck with HBO Max and Netflix.

Disney plus recently added a lot of new content ('Star'), which included a lot of good stuff. I think it's my favourite streaming service at the moment.

There's finally a trailer for the Wheel of Time. Not sure what exactly is happening there, but it looks well-produced.

Shame about the generic European fantasy show aesthetic but it looks like the girls are gonna knock it outta the park... this is the first time in my life that I'm actually looking forward to November.

Big hype for WoT! The trailer looked good and I'm eagerly awaiting Moraine's Manethern story.

It's hard to comprehend that TV was just 3 network channels (4 if you include PBS) when I was inoculated against Smallpox. Most families back then only had one TV, with rabbit ears for antenna reception, and every broadcast was in black & white. (We had to go to the theater to see the technicolor of Wizard of Oz).

It makes me sad that the "new" TV generations who have so much access to the world, with thousands of channels, including social media web sites, are so damn vulnerable to misinformation. And that some 30% refuse to believe the science of masks or vaccines.

Someone will eventually make a movie or TV show about this weird Covid era, and get awards or accolades for making a new version of The Grapes of Wrath, and earn revenue from product-placements and merchandizing (Disney is especially good at that); it will be so blatant that no one can say it's subliminal. But we'll celebrate any adversity if it's cloaked in drama, fancy sets, elaborate wardrobes, or comes with a catchy tune, and put it on our kids' backpacks and juice boxes.

First episodes of the Foundation series feels like being on a date with someone who is trying too hard.

Wow, I didn't think they'd be able to translate that aspect of the books to the film medium
