    Default COLLEGE IS EFFIN AMAZING

It's thread-worthy. I actually had tons of interesting conversations with everyone. even the douchy bros are witty and relatively smart. The girls are hot and bountiful. I've been there for five hours.

If you think that's amazing, wait until your first drunken sekzing.

Stop posting it on a forum... go play some video games, and talk to people. I don't expect to hear a play by play of your life, or for this to be used as some social outlit, last thing you want to do is to be in a nice environment where you can do lots of cool stuff but you spend all your time browsing the web and posting stuff on here . enjoy your college meals, floor and all that jazz... don't be afraid to sit and talk with random people!!!

Couldn't you have said this better in a video response post?

Video responses are lame. He should only do one if it's of one of those interesting conversations he's having with nekkid co-eds.

I'm TAing a freshman mass course

I hope a virulent, freshman-specific plague is invented somewhere

    Soon
In the future, the Berlin wall will be a mile high, and made of steel. You too will be made to crawl, to lick children's blood from jackboots. There will be no creativity, only productivity. Instead of love there will be fear and distrust, instead of surrender there will be submission. Contact will be replaced with isolation, and joy with shame. Hope will cease to exist as a concept. The Earth will be covered with steel and concrete. There will be an electronic policeman in every head. Your children will be born in chains, live only to serve, and die in anguish and ignorance.
The universe we observe has precisely the properties we should expect if there is, at bottom, no design, no purpose, no evil, no good, nothing but blind, pitiless indifference.

I like TAing freshmen. They haven't got into bad habits yet and are more willing to do work.

I've got one more year left of high school and I'm finally done. High school has been the worst experience of my life and I cannot wait to move on to college. I am very jealous of you

Couldn't you have said this better in a video response post?
Probably would... ya know I could have elaborated, been more clear... haha. Honestly, though I was mostly just commenting on how his first instinct was to post it on the forums and while i was semi-serious about us not giving us a play by play i meant it only in a friendly manner. I'd actually be interested to know how college treats him, and i'm glad he's excited about it! A lot of people go there scared, instead of curious and excited.

Did you find me handsome in my video response?

Too each his own, I suppose, but their inexperience makes for a much less enjoyable experience. Give me a ~30 year old cougar over an 18 or 19 year old any day of the week. Not only does their experience make things better, but the older ones are more imaginative and adventurous too... not just pump, pump bang. Plus, it's like the younger ones expect you to do all the work.

    ...

Wait, TA does stand for "tapping ass," right? Seems to be the only way to use those two letters in a worthwhile endeavor with 18/19 year olds.

Lol, I have actually significantly reduced my internet usage (mostly because I have an 8 gb cap per week, so sadly no streaming endless porn videos). But it wasn't really my first impulse. It was the first time I got my internet working in a few days. :P

No. like, if you're even remotely knowledgeable, then people think you're this intellectual titan and flock to you. you become the center of the social circle. i've got a few girls who asked me for my number. it's a shame I plan to remaining straight edge and not drinking or maliciously shattering any hymens.

Canuckistan, awesome. The bandwidth situation's so bad that even universities are capping usage? Man, I am so glad I got outta that gulag...

OK, so I gotta ask. No fucking, no boozing, right? So the point of having friends under those parameters is...?

I'm drawing a complete blank. If you're not using your intellect to get laid or find interesting new ways to get messed up (and/or evade the authorities for whatever fun thing you did while messed up), what's the point of having one? Seems like you'd be better off smashing yourself in the head with a hammer and taking the "ignorance is bliss" path through life.

I'd give him one month, two months tops, and he will change his mind.

This weekend I found myself in an obscure rural area that happened to be 40 minutes from the obscure rural college I spent a year at. I was with a lot of friends from that college. Unfortunately, it took several drinks for me to realize that it was the first weekend of college and we could easily drive over there to taunt them/observe their Freshman posturing.

Yeah, over here our uni network is pretty much unlimited and extremely fast, though you're not supposed to use it for anything illegal. 8GB/week isn't that bad though, I don't think I usually reach that.

Ehh, they have zero habits, or habits left over from SS, neither of which are good for the most part. Plus in my field we have to hold their hands over the ever-tricky mathematics ("what's d/dx, hurrrrrr") in addition to learning physical thinking.

Although admittedly I had a chance to TA a PhD course, but I chose to keep my mouth shut when that came up, so I have but myself to blame!

You have no idea how many PhD forewords I've read with a "profound thank you" for whichever freshman girl they snagged from a student party when they were starting out their PhD/finishing their master's. It's the sort of thing to give a person ideas, really...

UT Austin has bandwidth caps for students as well. Default allocation for all students is 500MB/week. Students in dorms get an additional 5GB base. Purchasing more is very cheap (~$10 prorated for additional 25GB/week), so it's not a big deal.

Well damn. Guess I'm happy I finished college in general before the unwashed masses figured out what to do with a fatty pipe to the world of interwebs. My dorm had a pipe that would do 1 MB/s up and 1MB/s down at the same time, and it was doing both almost the whole time I was in the dorms. Only good thing about living there, actually.

That's weird, I just did an online test and it says I have faster up than down speed (17 Mbps and 19 Mbps).

Those speed tests are not reliable. There's only one real test to determine your actual throughput: Connect to several universities and begin to download some huge Linux iso in parallel multiple times. Then add up the download speed and you'll have your true downstream bandwidth.
Or do you honestly think that such one singular online server would be able to saturate my download pipe? In my case, what I'm measuring is usually their current upstream capability.

Nah but I found it surprising that it listed my up faster than down, repeatedly. Either way, my speed is therefore over 17 Mbps, which is good enough for me. So I am happy

Sure, but this was ten years ago, on my individual port in my dorm room. 10 mbit was pretty damned blazing, for the time, and it's not like today, where you're downing DVD9s or BluRay discs and 720p video, while streaming internet radio... it was the good ol days, back when parts of the net were still untouched by and unknown to the unwashed masses and the *AAs and the politicians and such. *<sigh>* I miss dal.net and ef.net.
