Default UK government's childrens website leads to gay fetish porn

    http://www.theregister.co.uk/2010/02...busters_world/

Amusing article. The UK governments childrens website (created 2007) created a section recently called "Buster's World" with a cartoon dog named Buster showing children parts of the internet.

Unfortunately nobody thought to check the name out and Busters World is the name of a gay porn website with an emphasis apparently on balloon fetishes . I'm not looking into that for explanation. Oddly enough bustersworld.com (the gay porn) was created in 2000.

Mothers searching for Buster's World (mentioned by children who'd been told about it at school) instead found the gay porn site listed as the number 1 entry on Google, if safe search is off.

Idiots! How about before creating a new web presence . . . Google the term? Check if there's already an existing .com

Either true incompetence or someone in government gets their kicks out of redirecting children to gay porn sites

    Amazing.

I'd guess it was incompetence, though.

Most of our politicians are what we call "Internet Ausdrucker" (printing out the internet in dead tree form). Some simply don't get it and, if pressed, cannot even explain what a browser is.

Thus I'd agree with Lolli, that a committee decided on a name without knowing anything about how the 'net works. Then again, a lot of people don't really know too much about it. I recently had to explain to a group of girls that, unless it's explicitly mentioned on a webpage, you may not simply take any picture you like and publish it on your own page. That is, unless you like to be hit by a cease and desist to the tune of several hundred Euros.

don't pin this on the politicians, a lot of internet-savvy people must have been involved in this project at various points in its development and all of them failed.

or maybe they did search google but only from work!!!

Oh I can assure you they probably had a steering committee and a project manager that wouldn't know a mouse from a keyboard if their lives depended on it.

Our Government is all about the sex scandals.

I mean, have you SEEN the 2012 logo?
How do you expect to run with the wolves at night when you spend all day sparring with the puppies?
