Thread: What is making you happy right now

Dragon Age Fan Fiction. The quality of the writing is better then the actual Dragon Age official novels. Two of the standouts (IMO) are The Telling Tale and Victory at Ostagar. The first is Cassandra talking to the Mage Gray Warden after the events of DA2. The latter is a what if scenario if Logain wasn't a total jackass and actually charged the Darkspawn like he was supposed to. They are free and ongoing and very much enjoyable while I wait for DA3.

We've been understaffed this week, both nurses and doctors, and have had more patients than we're supposed to. Ketchup-effect or something. But we've done right by all of them! The nurses are incredible and everyone's been in good spirits. I suppose the beautiful weather helped, but mostly it's just a good group of people we even got some time to socialise and have a delicious lunch together.

Anyway, today I managed to leave on time. We finally bought the sofa-bed, after careful consideration. It just grew on us, and was even more comfortable than we recalled. We were sold before the inevitable sales pitches began and didn't find it particularly difficult to evade other pricier and less perfect options. It'll be a kinda purple affair and it'll be here in like 5 weeks

I also plonked down way too much money on daylight lightbulbs, of which one is a "proper" full-spectrum bulb, the kind you use as grow-lights or to treat the winter blues. That one was three times as pricy as the others, but probably not three times as awesome. The lighting in our apartment is really weird now, but we're kinda enjoying it so far it's been a good day. good weekend coming up too. ton of paella and wine left

When we were planning this vacation we were hours away from booking a cruise on carvinal. problem was that they jacked the room rates several hundred dollars in the 6 hour span of time it took use to decide to us them. found out today that the exact cruise we would have been on is now crippled and slowing crawling back to port. over priced theme parks beat that any day.

    Belated congrats Lor!

This week marks 20 years since the IRA bombed my home town of Warrington killing 2 young school boys out shopping for Mother's Day presents. I'm happy that now such bombings are not regular anymore.

Thanks to Target's rewards programs and their current buy 2 get 1 on all games, I managed to pick up a Wii U Deluxe, Super Mario Bros U, Monster Hunter Ultimate, and ZombiU for under $400 after tax.

Plus I get to see the Croods today.

One of my cats used to use a step-stool to sit on her haunches and beg for special treats. She's recently discovered the dishwasher door, in its open warm/drying horizontal position, has a dual purpose. She scurries on top of the door like it's a step stool, puts her paws in the air, and mews. She doesn't have to "sit-up" at all. Clever cat.

Got through my most daunting job interview experience to date, for a 2nd stage.

Had to do a 15 minute presentation, 60 minute discussion of my CV, 30 minutes of competency-based questions around my experience, and then 3 separate 30 minute assessments.

Been invited back for a 3rd stage interview tomorrow, which seems more of a meet and greet formality than an actual interview.

Sounds daunting! Worst I had was a one hour computer test followed by two one hour one on ones.. Then again, that was for a one week summer class I got my current job simply by emailing followed by a meet and greet

Spring has returned (no doubt just a tease) and the weather for the past few days has been lovely. Work has been rough but not nearly as rough as it coulda been; this week's been a real test and I've not only survived but done fairly well by my team and by my patients. One decision may have sped up a diagnosis by two weeks and led to a great learning opportunity as well. Curiously, many of my friends have also had those "I just saved a life with my brain" moments this week. Cluster effect! Everyone's been in a good mood and I'm almost not dreading being on call again tomorrow

Ah, but tomorrow... tomorrow the ginger's leaving for a two-week trip to Japan with her mum. It's gonna be amazing for her, but it's also the first time in three years we'll be apart for more than a week so I'm kinda like

    Nah, it's gonna be great

The return of spring really makes a huge difference.

In other news chocolate truffles are ridonculously delicious and I've adjusted to my new glasses so I no longer feel like I'm walking around under the influence of drugs.

Happy thread because when it comes to DRM I like watching certain things fall apart.

Uplay has been hacked, hacked so badly that there is a program floating around, thanks to some Russians, that allows you to trick the uplay program into thinking you've purchased certain games, when you have not. Even gives you a direct download that doesn't require the uplay software to be active when launching the game. People have used this program to download unreleased games, such as Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon.

Well, I'm happy that spring has finally arrived, in all its blooming glory. It sucked that we fluctuated between 30-85 degrees for the last couple of months, like a roller coaster. It's nice to know the transition is real, and not just a tease.

It doesn't mean anything, but that picture of 99 cent rock band put me on the front page of default reddit. Even ended up in the top 10.

Oooh, very pretty! Especially the tiny prongs around the stone. And the leaf detail in the band. Damn, you're good.

At best that makes your boss famous Cool though, what's the subject?

  25. #4195
Hehe, I guess he is famous to a rather select group of people. His talk was on the importance of having people fluent in multiple disciplines of science/medicine/engineering in order to really do the most important and useful work, based on his own experiences in stent design.

I hope you've patented a triangle or something equally awesome.

Isn't the US Patent office giving out patents no matter how trivial the innovation is?
