Student loans are fully paid off, credit card should be cleared by next month (mainly cause insurance is auto charged to it), and my last car payment is at the end of the summer.
This feels good. Would feel better if I wasn't looking a thousand dollars worth of dentistry work with in the coming months, but I luckily have a HSA to cover that.

Its been nearly 20 years since I've seen this screen. Dad lived his entire life being the only one in the family who could manage it. Fuck YEAH!

I've gotten to that screen frequently as a kid playing on the old Game Boy; I loved the russian musicians, and of course, the rocket ship. I think it was supposed to be the Soviet attempt at a Space Shuttle.
My mom won our first gameboy when they were released, so I was 6-7? years old. 9-5 was way above me at the time, and puzzles in general wouldn't have been something I was interested in. My dad didn't bother mastering it till we got a super gameboy and by then I had Rage and Mortal Kombat combos to memorize. Never thought about it much until I got it free from the club nintendo store, and it did take a bit of brain rewiring since I've had spent so many years on Lumines
but yeah, the space shuttle is the russian Buran.

Now THIS was surprising
I have had a lovely day. Long sleep-in, sunshine, warmth, a nice breeze. Went to a spex (their 25th anniversary) with a couple we've recently begun to hang out with and then ended up at my favourite bar with a visiting friend I haven't seen in a year as well as her friend, one of the most easy-going and open people I've met in a long time. I like meeting friends and getting to know new nice fun people. I also love nice bars with good staff that serve great drinks and play good music that doesn't get in the way of talking. I like I like nice nice nice fun

Lovely spring night. Gorgeous full moon, clear skies, chilly temps, soft breeze. My new wind chimes sound just right, making occasional music without sounding twinkly or tinny. The sound seems far away, with a deep and gentle echo. Perfect for nighttime, and just the right pitch for dreaming. I imagine the baby birds of spring might also enjoy the lulling sounds, and will sleep just a little bit longer, before they start their pre-dawn chirping.
This is pretty much the definition of badass in my book:

George Benson @ Hollywood Bowl LA in September . While I'm no GB fan (I don't mind his music) the experience will be great.
ooh a George Benson concert sounds great! I didn't know he was still playing live venues! Not sure how big the Hollywood Bowl seating is, or how good their acoustics are, but I'll bet even his opening groups will be awesome.
It's always interesting to see how musicians perform their "signature" songs live. And how just a few notes can cause the audience to hoot 'n holler in anticipation. (On Broadway...)
I got last minute, free, AAA tickets for Groezrock including meals and drinks, even!
I'm pretty happy right now. Absolutely gorgeous springtime weather! Slow morning sunrises, breezy afternoons, chilly evenings, beautiful night moonscapes. Rain drops, thunderstorms, April showers, May flowers. No extreme heat or humidity, no flying stinging insects like wasps, hornets, bees, mosquitoes. There are a few puffy carpenter bees scouting around the house, sniffing for their wood nests, but that's about it.
I found an engorged caterpillar on the driveway, wiggling on his back, with his many legs wiggling around in the air. Each time I flipped him over, to use his legs, he flipped on his back again. He kept creeping along slowly, on his back. The abdomen was translucent and dark, like some birth or metamorphosis was happening that I didn't understand. It was too big to be a Japanese beetle slug. It had no "fur" like other caterpillars.
Watching this tiny creature brought me joy this morning.
Found Crackdown at Gamestop for $3. I think I'm going to really like the preowned section once the new consoles roll out.

1. Went indoor rock climbing for the first time ever yesterday. My forearms and fingers seized up but it was surprisingly fun good thing I didn't chicken out.
2. This was part of a birthday party for my boss and the whole evening was surprisingly fun, with lotsa laughs, great food and even some games. I haven't socialised much with my colleagues yet so this was good.
3. Beautiful weather today and I finally end this unplanned on-call week
4. Fun and delicious lunch
5. SOFA-BED IS HERE
6. everything is fuzzy and nice and the house smells of freshly roasted coffee again just a tad bit over-roasted once again but still.

I am looking at the start of a 4 day weekend, and then a 3 day workweek after which I will have a 4 week vacation in Indonesia. Life isn't Always bad
Congratulations America
My first born son is flying the nest and moving to Philly next week! Not as a cloistered university student, but embracing that city life as a worker, resident, community member. He is so excited and happy, it's contagious!
I'm excited and happy for him...with some concerned reservations as his clucking mother. That's the parental paradox that doesn't mean shit in the grand scheme of children growing, blooming, and seeking their own happiness journeys as confident young adults.
It's been a lovely week. Things went well at work and labour day felt like a whole long weekend. We celebrated our third anniversary and later the first anniversary of our engagement. I was overcome with mushy feelings and commemorated the felicitious event with virtual crayon art
... a hermit went to a party where he met a princess. He was captivated so he drove off his enemies and then stared at her face while she spoke of shooting elk. He had never seen her before, but, long before the night was over, he knew he wanted to see her again
"It can't be done!"
"It will be done."
The reply was swift and clear.
They met in a public place called Gothenburg. [the name of a café] The hermit brought his best gestures, jokes and ideas...
... it was the best first date ever. "God, please let there be another," he thought [Clas Ohlson is kinda like a hardware store]
The hermit sought to prove his worth. Overcome with love, he went on a quest to save the princess from indie-poppers and museologists... but he soon learned that this was no helpless damsel in distress. Before his disbelieving eyes, she crushed her foes with her mighty arm. Then she attacked the hermit in the night like a ninja.
They went to a show and yelled at the actors. It was a show about true love--forwards, backwards, in German but above all forever. It was the best first date ever
The hermit's knowledge of Swedish courtship rituals was slightly outdated. He waited till Walpurgis Night to formally ask her permission to formally bother her regularly for the foreseeable future. She was inclined to acquiesce to his request! They did not realise it was a night of great sorcerous power...
... until they were transformed into kittens. The transformation was permanent and not much has changed since then
It's been three very happy years... also the coffee-roasting is going well!

Aww, that's lovely and romantic. Will that be part of your "wedding album"?
I hadn't given much thought to how new computer apps have changed things like wedding photography and keepsake albums. (Well, not since my ex got remarried and they gave 'special' guests DVDs of their wedding music playlist, with their portrait on the disc.)
I haven't been to a young couples' first wedding for a few years, and technology has changed so much since then! Any special plans in that area, minx?
