We don't have vacations for schools here yet, either. I think over here they generally have about 7 weeks off for summer.

Our kids have been out since right after Memorial Day! Too damned many delinquents running the streets!

In the future, the Berlin wall will be a mile high, and made of steel. You too will be made to crawl, to lick children's blood from jackboots. There will be no creativity, only productivity. Instead of love there will be fear and distrust, instead of surrender there will be submission. Contact will be replaced with isolation, and joy with shame. Hope will cease to exist as a concept. The Earth will be covered with steel and concrete. There will be an electronic policeman in every head. Your children will be born in chains, live only to serve, and die in anguish and ignorance.
The universe we observe has precisely the properties we should expect if there is, at bottom, no design, no purpose, no evil, no good, nothing but blind, pitiless indifference.

I got the new Gamestop down the street to call me when they need to throw out their old promo stuff. I've got a feeling this may get out of hand, but for now... FUCK YEAH.

Nice juxtaposition with the kids' chalkboard and rocking stool in the background.

Seriously, yes Mid-June, then school starts up 1 week of September.

The picture I took of Scarlett holding Go the Fuck to Sleep ending up on the front page of the pics over at Reddit. Haven't gotten in a front page over there since Atari's admin fuckup.

I'm not sure if this should go here or WTF! Because I am still sitting here in shock, thinking WTF with a huge smile on my face!

I received a proposal last night! Yes, I am thinking of jumping a 5th time! I'm not sure about it yet but I know I don't want to fail a fifth time. As a "gift", this gentleman paid my overdue cell phone bill, paid my rent, and gave me money to get my nails done. Something seems fishy, but maybe that's just the paranoid side of me talking. The Friend did a hell of a number on me last fall!

No print articles yet for me to make a thread out of, but the Supreme Court just struck down California's law outlawing the sale of violent video games to minors.
I know this won't stop Target from wanting to scan my license everytime I purchase one of those evil M rated games, but I celebrate what I can..

Don't normally post in here, but here goes:

There's been this project that I worked on early in my PhD that has dragged on for years - a collaboration with a startup to develop them a new material. We went from basic material design all the way to a human implantation, and there's this gargantuan paper on the project that has been wending it's way through collaborative-writing hell for years (the author list is quite extensive). Well, our revisions went in a few weeks ago, and it's finally been accepted and is getting published in a decent journal! So yay, that's off my back. Now if I could only get the other 4 papers published...

In other news, a chapter I wrote for a biomaterials book back in 2009 is finally getting published now as well. Too bad I don't get any of the royalties. Not that I suspect this is going to be exactly flying off the shelves.

    Cool news Wiggin.

Hmm I notice Wiley is the publisher. If they print this in the UK for the market here, I reckon we'd be sniffing around it due to the trim size/page extent.

That does sound really cool, wiggin. Especially the human implantation part. Is it still too new and secret to share with us?

Nothing too exciting, actually. As all of the actual engineers/scientists who worked on the animal studies (read: me and one or two others) had warned, there were some issues with the first in human trials, so the data didn't look too great from a local toxicity/inflammation perspective (though it was spot-on from a functionality perspective). Fortunately all of the implants were put in the abdominal dermis, which were removed at the end of the study through an abdominoplasty (the participants got a free one for their troubles), so there wasn't any real harm done to the people.

Still, it was a worthwhile experience and the sheer breadth of the data was pretty impressive.

It is finally summer! It finally got HOTHOTHOT! YAY! I think it's about 95 degrees out there, which is the low end of perfect temperatures! Finally!

And it arrived more than a week early, too, so that also makes me happy!

And I got an email from a dude at Jack Daniels, apologizing for not sending me free whiskey last month, and that it should arrive in a few days - free whiskey makes me happy Curious what exactly I will be receiving.

oooh I hope it's the new Jack Daniels Honey so you can give us a review! Only seen tv commercials for it so far.

I just love Ezra Klein. (My kids think this is my only media crush but they'd be wrong.) He is just so damn adorable. His mouth and lips are very sexy, and he has what looks like either a slight overbite or a corrected speech impediment (slightly lispy). But he's incredibly articulate. I love watching his mouth and hearing him speak. I don't always agree with what he says but damn I love watching him say it. Cute mole on his cheek, dark brown eyes that never waiver, sometimes on air with a 5 o'clock shadow, sometimes wearing contacts or glasses. He's just....sigh....smart, cute, sexy.

According to someone who drinks Jack all the time, it's a sweeter, smoother version! I dunno if I believe a bar owner or not, but there you have it!

Turns out to be 12 bottles Not bad, not bad. They did ask if we could show their brand in a positive light - but that's going to be a bit hard.
