    George Benson!

I was trying to remember an artist's name, and went a-hunting.

(I had a senior moment, but the guy was Earl Kluhg. Saw him in concert, even met him and shook his hand.)

No links, sorry. But lately I've been having my second adolescence, listen tothe hard from my youth: Metallica, Megadeth, Pantera to be exact. Oh, and a smattering of Alice Cooper.

In the future, the Berlin wall will be a mile high, and made of steel. You too will be made to crawl, to lick children's blood from jackboots. There will be no creativity, only productivity. Instead of love there will be fear and distrust, instead of surrender there will be submission. Contact will be replaced with isolation, and joy with shame. Hope will cease to exist as a concept. The Earth will be covered with steel and concrete. There will be an electronic policeman in every head. Your children will be born in chains, live only to serve, and die in anguish and ignorance.
The universe we observe has precisely the properties we should expect if there is, at bottom, no design, no purpose, no evil, no good, nothing but blind, pitiless indifference.

Personally, I've been listening to a lot of Led Zeppelin and AC/DC this week.

    Fantastic album.

Also, any song that is called 'Let me Put my Love into You' wins much credit from me.

Also, my band has a couple of songs up: www.myspace.com/suckstobeyouband

Well I managed to fuck that up royally! Sorry Nessie, that was supposed to be a link to The Who performing Pinball Wizard live.

I call it the Tommy operetta. My mom, of all people, introduced me to The Who, and Procal Harem, and the Moody Blues!

The Who are fantastic. Always been a big fan of them since I was young, and seeing them live in 2007 was one of the best nights of my life! Your mother has good taste in music

    My mom was really cool

I've been trying to find and link to things like The Swingle Singers and Switched On Bach, but that's some pretty "old" content. Until I update my computer, it's not so easy.

Switched On Bach was an early precursor to digital music, and Swingle Singers was like skat or *a cappella* in the 60s, using long-haired classics.

I'm definitely gonna be getting a couple of these soon!

It's rock music, recreated into lullaby music. A good way to indoctrinate the baby, I think!

For example, here's Nirvana with their classic 'Heart Shaped box'

Sounds a bit creepy that one, actually

I'd forgotten that so much rock had been taken to lullabye baby, but it's great stuff!

Many older musicians made albums for babies, after they started having babies themselves.

Carly Simon, James Taylor, Linda Ronstadt, Karla Bonoff--even Elton John's music, Lion King etc.

The last lullabye music I used was the soundtrack from March of the Penguins. sniff, now I'm feeling all sentimental.

I love that Pet Shop Boys song, it reminds me of Nessie.

Did I do something wrong in making this thread a place for ALL music? I see a new one called Musical Radar.

    rewind and try again?

What do you people recommend for music to have on the background while studying? So far Air and Arcade Fire seem to work, any other suggestions?

    Mozart. Hands down.

For starters try the soundtrack to Amadeus.

Depends on your mood. I like kind of spacey ambient music and have been into a dark kick lately, so I put on Lustmord now. Usually either The Place Where the Black Stars Hang, Zoetrope, and Metavoid. But it may be a bit on the dark and dreary side...

    A few other albums:
    Movements by Solar Fields
Structures From Silence by Steve Roach
The Magnificent Void by Steve Roach
    Community Shelter Planning by Conelrad
Hydroponic Garden by Carbon Based Lifeforms
    Dusker by Kiln

and for some video-gamey sounds (which sometimes actually help me focus) I'll listen to Colugo's album Hello Yellow Fellow or just put on some music from Command and Conquer, Half Life, System Shock 2, etc.

It really depends on what sort of music can help you tune out the rest of the world while simultaneously preventing you from focusing on the music itself.

My personal favourite to listen to while working is 'Better Book Ends' by The Littlest Man Band. They're a side project of Reel Big Fish, and are much more mellow and laid back. There is some brass in there, and a couple of lively songs, but it's very Jazzy Blues and sounds great. The only album they ever did then they split up.

If you like Radiohead, try the cover album by Easy Star All-Stars called 'Radiodread' which is a reggae cover album of OK Computer.

Failing that, just put on Dark Side of the Moon and be done with it

I wouldn't mind some Trance at this point in the evening. I only have a couple of discs that I found by accident, browsing Borders.

Crap, I can't even use my iTunes very well with this computer, and my DVD player is in the basement, but the man child is down there with his friend girl.

Can someone please post a link? I could play it in the background....

And the East Coast got the blues
    It's a mass of confusion
Like the lies they sell to you

    You got a glass-jawed toothache
    Of a mental disease
And they be running round back
See them line up on their knees
    'Cause the kiss ass sycophants
    Throwing penance at your feet

When they got nowhere to go
Watch them come in off the streets
    While they're banging out front
Inside they're slamming to the crunch
Go on and throw me to the lions
And the whole damn screaming bunch
'Cause the pissed-off rip-offs 'R' everywhere you turn
Tell me how a generation's ever supposed to learn
This fire is burning and it's out of control
It's not a problem you can stop
    It's rock n' roll

I read it on a wall
It went straight to my head
It said "Dance to the tension of a world on edge"
    We got racial violence
And who'll cast the first stone
And s*x is used anyway it can be
    Sometimes when I look out
It's hard to see the day
It's a feeling you can have it
It's not mine to take away

Lost in the Garden of Eden
Said we're lost in the Garden of Eden
And there's no one's going to believe this
But we're lost in the Garden of Eden
This fire is burning and it's out of control
It's not a problem you can stop
    It's rock n' roll
    Suck on that

Looking through this point of view
There's no way I'm going to fit in
Don't you tell me what my eyes see
Don't you tell me who to believe in
    I ain't superstitious
But I know when something's wrong
    I've been dragging my heels
    With a b**ch called hope
Let the undercurrent drag me along

Lost in the Garden of Eden
Said we're lost in the Garden of Eden
And there's no one's going to believe this
But we're lost in the Garden of Eden

    Most organized religions make
    A mockery of humanity
    Our governments are dangerous
    And out of control
The Garden of Eden is just another graveyard
Said if they had someone to buy it
Said I'm sure they'd sell my soul

This fire is burning and it's out of control
It's not a problem you can stop
    It's rock n' roll
Lost in the Garden of Eden
(And we ain't talking about no poison apple or some missing rib you hear)
Said we're lost in the Garden of Eden
And there's no one's going to believe this
Said we're lost in the Garden of Eden
This fire is burning and it's out of control
It's not a problem you can stop
    It's rock n' roll
