Thread: Good Article on Schools

Yeah, KC is one of the old river cities that never recovered from the 70s flight and resulting decay. A few years ago I was there for the first time in 20 years, and it was distressing to see that it was even worse, where most comparable cities I had seen seemed better. Totally anecdotal, of course, but KC seemed like it was on the ropes.

It's not anecdotal to note that the KC district still has 18,000 students. Makes sense to close half-full schools, and lay off some teachers, but it sounds fairly dire there from a budget and performance standpoint.

Well, we'll see a lot of budget failures. The Great Recession is like a 100 year drought in some ecosystem. The weak will die first. KC is the weakest of the flyover cities nobody cares about.
