Truthfully, it might be. I sense that whenever I do any other activities, I long back to the computer and phone. Sorta like a teenager would. Perhaps since that is what I have been doing since I was 14, to being 26 now.. it has become an addiction of sorts.

If I attempt to reflect in a bigger picture, last week I spent on holiday with my girlfriend, we did more memorable things than I usually do in months. Camping in a tent, food festival, going to beach three times, fishing, mountain hiking etc. It was overall good, if not for all the petty arguments while doing these activities. I strongly dislike moreover, that it seems as if my interests, are treated as poison by her. Essentially I can't watch TV before the evening, as it's almost resented as being sinful. Likewise if I would like to watch a video or two on YouTube, it's not "worth" our time together, so I should avoid it all together.

I guess what I'm saying is that I would rather be together with a type that you have described. That have some sort of lenience. Who doesn't always need to do something productive, and measure a day's success based on amount of hours spent on such productiveness. I want someone who is able to focus and be productive, but also relax. If that makes sense? Because as of now, I feel like I can't live out any of my hobbies, without it triggering her in a major way. I've never heard her utter the words "I'm tired today, so all I'll do is chill and be quiet on my own", and that sorta frightens me, because I need those days on a regular.

It sucks being a late baby boomer, having one foot in the 20th century and another in the 21st. When I was 20 yrs old my life expectancy was ~ 75-80 yrs, but now it's been extended to ~ 80-90 yrs. Thanks to medical science, I'm likely to live longer, but probably won't be able to afford it, even tho I've been a saver all my life.

10,000 people turn 65 yrs old every day in the US, while the number of workers funding SS and Medicare keeps shrinking. It makes me feel bad about growing old, and being a burden on my children. I've been thinking that dying when I'm 75 might be a good thing. Is that fucked up or rational?

Look at it this way. Those medical advances, not only increase the lifespan, but also the life quality as well. And its constantly improving, so your future if anything, is bright. If you invest in your later years, by exercising regularly (even 5 minutes a day will have large impacts on your strength), eat healthy and also train mentally, by committing socially to society... 75 probably won't be that bad. I as a physiotherapist rarely treat geriatric patients under mid 80s. You can't be guaranteed you won't have a disease at such an advanced age, but if you are physically fit, you'll have a superbly functional body as well. But you are smart to set good foundation. Its literally never too late to start, but it gets progressively more difficult the more you age.

If all 60 year olds would participate in a group workout twice or even three times a week, I can't even begin to imagine the positive effects. The issue is, most people won't.

Don't get me wrong, dying at 75 wouldn't be such a bad thing. It's just hard to admit that society values (and practically worships) longevity....but also considers policies that keep people alive longer "entitlement" programs that are too expensive (SS, Medicare, etc.)

Forget group work-outs for the 60+ crowd that might mean they'll live to be 90-100. Quality of Life my ass. Keeping people alive longer is now seen as a burden on society in general, no matter how many jobs it creates for the younger generation, like you.

I'm having a slow start at work after a two week vacation. Somehow I thought about a friend from my primary school time. Before I knew what I was doing I was checking out pictures of a high school reunion earlier this year (I missed it, since I usually never think of those untill they are well in the past). Looking at those pictures with people I recognized not a single one of in a new school building (the old one was torn down decades ago) had a highly unsettling effect on me. It almost made me physically unwell. I stopped well before getting to the last of the pictures.

Today I learned that the apartment next door had a kitchen fire....5 days ago! Several fire trucks, evacuations, the whole nine yards. I was out of town when it happened, but suspected 'something' had happened b/c my door was unlocked, and my door wreath was on the ground when I got home. (My son was looking under beds and in closets for an intruder, I was checking for stolen valuables. )

It was a mystery of sorts, but now that I know a FIRE occurred next door, it's even more disconcerting. No door-note, no text or email -- nothing explaining that the Fire Dept. -- and the property manager -- had entered my apartment to look for fire or smoke damage; nothing about fire safety precautions; NOTHING. I found out by accident, talking to a neighbor at the mail box.

When I confronted the property manager, she tried to blow me off by saying they've got a contract with some "Safe/Secure" company endorsed by corporate HQ. But she couldn't answer why I wasn't notified about a FIRE next door, let alone how they'd protect my deaf cat in my absence.

I have Trump fatigue. I'm tired of the chaos and confusion. Ignoring the news isn't a proper prescription, but I've tried it anyway.

I don't know what to do about this nightmare when other people act like nothing much has happened, SSDD.

For the last 2 years I have been in a program called inPrep. It enabled me to get necessary testing while using Prep. I pay for the pills myself, which is not an excessive burden for me. While I was doing this the Dutch government was dragging its feet over making Prep more widely available. I could go into how bad the foot dragging was, but I won't, it was just exceptional. Finally the decision was taken to set it up as yet another program in which Prep can be acquired for a co-pay of €12 a month. The effect of the set up is that the organization that did my testing had to rethink poilicies about who would qualify. During the consultation I had last wednesday I was told about this new policy and basically I was told that I was white, well off and well educated and thus should be able to fend for myself. As such, I actually agree that I can take care of this without their support. Still it is a bit grating that the government is being so stingy that something that potentially saves society the money spent many times is made so difficult.

Because, even though I do not doubt that I will be able to manage, I also simply do not believe they are going to be able to reach the people they are going to try to reach. Meaning it will most likely become less accesible under the pretense of making it more available.

My sister was in a bad car crash. Broad-sided on a curve (the other driver was eating a hamburger and choked, losing control. His wife and kids were passengers in his car, they're all okay.) But her car flipped and EMS/fire dept. had to extract her with the jaws of life. Haven't seen the pics yet but it sounds horrific.

Fractured C-7, concussion, several cuts on arms and legs from broken glass, in lots of pain. No spinal cord injury, no surgery needed but will wear a neck brace for at least 6 weeks, referrals to neurosurgeons and neurologists etc. She's lucky to be alive, it could have been so much worse! OMG

I hope she's getting top notch medical care, regardless of cost...but I suspect know she'll get drawn into a battle between insurance carriers, something she shouldn't have to fight. There's got to be a better way, dammit.

So I tried to cut my daughters hair after having watched a few tutorials on youtube... ouch...
Now I'm going to have to compensate with something tomorrow and my wife will be annoyed for at least a week (it was her bloody idea!).

She doesn't know yet if the other driver was insured. The hospital mainly cares about getting paid, and will bill *her* auto insurance carrier if the other guy had none, or even her health insurance policy if her auto policy is deficient. Primary, secondary, liability, it's a big hot mess.

She lives in Indiana and I'm not familiar with their laws (or her policy), but she's already worried that she'll be on the hook for some EMS or ambulance fees, ED costs, specialist referrals, or towing and impound/salvage costs....or that she'll have to pay a lawyer in order to avoid paying anything. On top of that, her future auto insurance premiums will be higher, even tho she was NOT at fault. GoGoUSA#1!

Update: her insurance is considered "primary". All costs will be billed to her carriers first, the other driver's insurance is considered secondary. That's a pretty big problem with gaping holes.

She's worried that her employer-based health insurance claims will impact her employment: since she's close to retirement age, they could force her into early retirement (especially if her injuries require long-term care) so that SS or Medicare pick up the costs. Marginally legal, but craptastically unfair.

And now we know why personal injury law firms are a multi-Billion dollar industry.

Turns out the other driver didn't pay his premiums, so his insurance was cancelled before the accident.






My beloved cat suddenly became jaundiced (never seen a cat with yellow-tinged ears and gums, it was weird and scary!) Hoping that antibiotics, prednisone, anti-emetics and appetite stimulants will help, even turn things around. I won't put her thru the trauma of surgery, but if it's liver failure due to cancer, she won't live much longer.

So my manager just got fired, and if I read between the lines there's a reorganisation of my department coming. While I definitely agree things had to change, I'm also a little worried about how things will happen, and about the near future chaos that's coming.

Also my second reorganisation in a year, at the previous one I got laid off. Starting to wonder if I bring bad luck

Found out as I was renewing my tabs that my state has a $225 annual electric vehicle fee (on top of the normal fees), and I still have to pay the emissions inspection fee even though my car has no emissions. Apparently this tax was created to pay for new electric-car charging stations, but that project was cancelled before any work was done while the taxes were left in place. I don't drive a ton, so I think I'm either breaking even or losing money vs. fueling with gas.

So I took the job as a physiotherapist, thinking I'd be challenged, that I almost went in above my head. Turns out they have largely camoflagued the job as a do-everything type of work, most of which has nothing to do with my education. Including cleaning, social contact, driving etc. To be honest, I'm inclined to resign, but the issue is this massive tangle I've gotten myself into. I've moved to a town with my girlfriend, on a 1 year apartment contract. There is next to no jobs that are low hanging fruit or otherwise achieveable for me. If I quit, I'll have nothing. If I keep working, I'll hate my work life. Her moving to another town is not an option, as she got a dream job.

Ha! It's a slow day.

Plenty of things to do but nothing went quite deterministic correct and then the time ran out.
I'm currently 2-3 weeks behind schedule due to unexpected compability issues.
Whenever I solve something a new fire popups.

So I ate some food, rested a bit. Played floorball with my son and his friends...

Now the day is almost over and I'm afraid tomorrow will be simular.
My strategy for tomorrow is to bring a black blanket so I can focus on gettings things done.
But most likely someone will want to hold a meeting were I have zero input anyhow right now but that will ruin the rythm/flow for me.
(I feel the strategy is complete wrong anyhow but I need to hold low profile for a few more months)

Then put it on repeat! ¤&&#¤&¤#4!
Though tomorrow I'll fight the fire at the other front.

Next week I got some continued course in product developement strategies.
And when I get back from that there will be something else to fix.

Saturday I am flying to Istanbul for the end-of-year vacation. Since I will stay there for three weeks, I will take Bella with me. Bella is an adorable small working cocker spaniel, but at 11 kg she's no longer allowed to travel with me in the cabin. So after going through the motions of getting her paperwork in order (essentially getting a legalized statement from the vet in holland that basically states that according to test results in Turkey she's protected against rabies) I thought; 'Istanbul Airport is ridiculously big, I should know where to pick her up'. So I asked both the airline (KLM) as the airport servicedesk. The reply I got from both was; 'We don't know and you really should ask us, ask KLM', and 'We don't know but we'll try to find the information you need'.

The funny thing is that formally on arrival Bella should be checked by an on-site vet. You'd think the airport people at least would know where this guy is working from.

My beloved cat died yesterday. She was 15 yrs old and had been ill recently, so it wasn't a total surprise. I knew she was living on borrowed time. Thought I'd prepared myself, but that's different from being ready.

I'm glad she was at home and died in her sleep, peacefully. She had a good life, and was so loved, like part of the family. It's hard to say goodbye
