It might help if you just keep in mind that whatever you saw, to somebody out there it's porn. If one of those people saw what you did, they might whip it out right there in public. Actually, that probably doesn't help at all. I'm not sure why I thought it would.

    Enjoy your next meal!

Good Old Games, www.GOG.com, has shut down

    EDIT:
There is a lot of PR Stunt talk, while I hope thats true, what a horrible idea.

    It's clearly a PR stunt.

"Couldn't continue in its current form" - it's not even subtle.

Should have been done April 1 though.

I seriously hope not. If anyone wants to read it, I'll put it behind this spoiler tag:
    Spoiler:
As I said above, we Amanda got me 3 cute Russian Dwarf Hamsters - which we called Pepe, Mocha and Mojo. Mojo died after just a week and I came home a few days ago and Pepe was lying dead, actually inside their food bowl and Mocha was not stirring at all. We had a plastic house inside the cage on its second floor and although they'd ignored it for the first few days Mocha had adopted it has his own home and moved in (carrying the bedding etc up with him). Pepe was definitely dead and Mocha seemed to be dead inside the house.

I felt really sad at this and didn't want to straight away dispose of the bodies so I decided to put a towel over the cage (hide them from view as it was sad) and the next day I went to dispose of them.

Pepe (previously dead in the food bowl) had moved. At first I thought I must have shaken him about (I'd moved the cage to next to the bin). Except then his middle was opened up and his bloodied rib cage was showing. WTF?

Picked up Mocha's house and shook it about gently trying to shake him out. Out started to slide his stiff-looking body. So I tapped him and he jumped and started stirring. Glad he was alive, but then it dawned on me that Mocha must have dragged Pepe about and tried to eat him :Puke:

Cleaned out the cage thoroughly, put Mocha back in it and he was really distressed. Constantly cleaning himself which is a sign they're nervous - which I'm not surprised remotely at . Poor guy, I'm worried now that whatever's killed Mojo and Pepe may get Mocha too - especially after he's eaten a bit of Pepe. They're still babies and hopefully he'll be OK it was just them being infants or whatever but I don't want to have to have 3/3 pets die in 3 consecutive weeks. OTOH every time I see him I get this image of what happened with Pepe

I'd read a while back that hamsters can be canibals, not nice to see at all though. Went out for dinner with my family and my mum got Chicken and BBQ Ribs and through the whole meal while she had her ribs I kept seeing Pepe's exposed rib-cage. As you can probably imagine that really turned my appetite. Don't want to tell anyone what I saw either, not sure how Amanda would take it.

    Awesome

Sorry 'bout your meal, though, that sucks
In the future, the Berlin wall will be a mile high, and made of steel. You too will be made to crawl, to lick children's blood from jackboots. There will be no creativity, only productivity. Instead of love there will be fear and distrust, instead of surrender there will be submission. Contact will be replaced with isolation, and joy with shame. Hope will cease to exist as a concept. The Earth will be covered with steel and concrete. There will be an electronic policeman in every head. Your children will be born in chains, live only to serve, and die in anguish and ignorance.

Perhaps you're "old enough to know better" than poisoning children?

You say your son is 22, that means I'm guessing your son was born in or around 1988? I remember 1988 and I know full well that it was 100% well known that smoking was deadly then so don't pretend this is some age-related thing as its not. You're young enough to know better too.

Hell, speaking about age and generations in Back to the Future (1985, 3 years before your son was born) he goes back to 1955 (33 years before your son was born) and is shocked/horrified to see his own mother smoking, even then in 1955 they knew better. Make of that what you will.

If Marty McFly was horrified that only tells you that they knew in 1985 that smoking was bad, since he's from 1985, not 1955.

I don't have Civ V yet and a whole day of doing nothing on Thursday. And that's messing with my groove.

Oh yes I entirely agree, though when Marty speaks to his mother about it she knows the risks but dismisses them (a fair representation of '55 I think you'd agree? Sort of known, but not exactly taken seriously), by '85 it was 100% known. My point isn't that anyone in 1955 should know better, but Munchkin didn't give birth in 1955. She gave birth in 1988. Make of that what you will, but the age card doesn't mean much.

    EDIT: I don't know Munch's age but I doubt she's 70 (eg 15 in '55) and gave birth when she was 48 (in '88)

The line for our food pantry was out the door and around the corner. Lots of newly laid off who've never had to ask for charitable food before. The only meat we had (frozen sausage patties) and all the bread was gone in 30 minutes.

As I said in the other thread...I had a smoking room in the hospital after he was born. Yes, that's right...there was a time when personal preferences trumped nonsense!

I have never made a secret of my age! I am 46! That's young enough to still have a life but old enough to remember personal freedoms! I remember smoking in the doctor's office waiting room, the hospital waiting rooms, the grocery store, (yes, that was disgusting) the courthouse, and just about any business in town. I remember when people didn't glare at you for lighting a cigarette, in fact, they might ask for a light themselves!

    Which means what, precisely?

And your clap-trap about "personal preferences trumping nonsense" is, well, nonsense. Would you like to use cosmetics made from arsenic and lead? Those were the height of fashion and personal preference of the rich, way back when. Later on people figured out that hey, this shit is stupidly toxic, maybe we shouldn't be plastering our faces and the faces of our children with the stuff.

Try it this way Nessie! I managed to get to my age, without a nanny government telling me what I am doing is sooooo horrible! *Gasp* the horror...we used to ride bicycles without helmets, ride in cars that didn't have seat belts as standard equipment, drive 100's of miles with children in the car...and NO car seats, eat bacon and eggs, drink, smoke, and all those things the government has decided are "bad" and "dangerous" and "will kill you"! Newsflash...we are all on the way out, some of us just a bit sooner than others!

...Yeah. And how many posts you've made in this thread are moaning about the various aches and pains you suffer on a daily basis? My mother is older than you, and she actually is in good health. I wonder what the difference might've been. Geography, or sensible lifestyle? I guess I'll know in 20 years, when I suddenly become capable of thought and reasoning

So if I can find someone who is older than 46 who thinks your opinion is a load of crap and following it would be detrimental to one's well being you'll stop being able to play the age card and can it? Because, frankly, I find it insulting that simply because you've managed to survive 20 years more than me, or anyone else on the forum, somehow makes you better or more knowledgeable at making decisions, and that in addition to this we cannot question your "wisdom" without offending you which is an entirely another can of worms keeping people from commenting on these issues with you.

That makes you 4 years younger than my dad and 7 years younger than his older sister (my aunt) who both hid the fact they smoked from my grandmother because they knew full well it was wrong. So your age is no excuse.

You gave birth after my grandfather (born before WWII) had given up smoking following getting throat cancer. So no, I don't think your ages impresses me at all, you're young enough to know full well that smoking is stupid and that smoking in front of children is insane.

If you're the peak of fitness and physical health then considering you're very young yourself at only 46 I hope not to hear any more moaning from you regarding your aches and pains. Since you've told us they're not self-inflicted and there's no reason someone your age shouldn't still be spritely.

Either that or you can admit to yourself and others that you have significantly damaged your health and continue to get sympathy.

I have never said anyone who is young is not capable of thought and reasoning. I simply stated that I grew up in a time when life was a hell of a lot simpler to live, mainly because we didn't have to wonder if everything we did was either illegal or immoral!

I realize that. I also realize they sharply reduced out ability to think for ourselves. Then too, they sharply increased the number of people who are alive and have limited mobility!

You can question anything I say. What I don't like is being told how horrible of a parent I am/was simply because I ingest a legal product! Contrary to popular belief, more laws are not always what is needed.

I never said I didn't damage myself or my health. BUT, my health was not damaged by my Dad's smoking when I was young (and yes, he was probably about the same age as your Grandfather) or his chewing Copenhagen or letting me sit on his lap and "drive" when I was little or letting me ride in the back of the pick-up or allowing me to go on trips with them when there was only 2 seat belts in the pick-up so the passenger in the middle wasn't strapped in at all!

I guess my biggest problem here is your reasoning that smoking when you are a parent is "child abuse". There are sooo many things that can harm our children...serious things like beating them or locking them in the closet or letting "Uncle" Joe babysit when you KNOW he is a kiddy-diddler.

So on the one hand, you don't want to ban anything. On the other, you don't think anything that's not illegal is immoral. Perhaps if people weren't doing stupid things (that hurt them and people around them) when they were legal, no one would bother to ban them.

Hey Loki, let's ask SCOTUS about legislating other moral issues like racial segregation in schools, abortion, eminent domain, DADT, *gay marriage*, and people doing "stupid things". Shall we?

In the future, the Berlin wall will be a mile high, and made of steel. You too will be made to crawl, to lick children's blood from jackboots. There will be no creativity, only productivity. Instead of love there will be fear and distrust, instead of surrender there will be submission. Contact will be replaced with isolation, and joy with shame. Hope will cease to exist as a concept. The Earth will be covered with steel and concrete. There will be an electronic policeman in every head. Your children will be born in chains, live only to serve, and die in anguish and ignorance.
The universe we observe has precisely the properties we should expect if there is, at bottom, no design, no purpose, no evil, no good, nothing but blind, pitiless indifference.

Hey, it's only possible to do one thing at a time! So, let's drop everything and really concentrate on only one issue!

Because, god forbid, what would happen if someone had an opinion on two issues?
When the stars threw down their spears
And watered heaven with their tears:
Did he smile his work to see?
Did he who made the lamb make thee?

Drunken, drugged and smoking ignorance is bliss.

While it lasts.....then reality kicks in and ignorance is no longer an option.
    Such is Life...

Had a meeting early last week about the phone information line that I and a few of my fellow LTAs going to be spending more time with at work. That presenter turned the entire meeting into this awkward long winded bitchfest about the awfulness of the current phone operators. Shortly after that, I schedule my van for a dealership appointment, Wednesday morning, because I never work Wednesday morning and I can wait at the dealer. Shortly have that, my boss' boss wants to have another meeting to clear up some of the awkwardness of the first meeting. Boss' boss wants the meeting to be held on Wednesday morning. That means I have to work Wednesday morning.

So today is Wednesday, through an insane amount of juggling Brandy and I manage to get both kids dropped off at school, the van to the dealer, and I manage to get to work in time. Only to discover the boss' boss decided 8:30 was to early for a meeting, and has now decided that holding the meeting during my teen gamezone event would be a better idea. Which wasted my morning, brought me into work early for no reason, and now has me trying to find someone else to setup the equipment.

I'm hating this phone system merge more and more everyday.
