Thread: What's messing with your Groove?

GE is an incredibly diverse, incredibly fucked up company.
In the future, the Berlin wall will be a mile high, and made of steel. You too will be made to crawl, to lick children's blood from jackboots. There will be no creativity, only productivity. Instead of love there will be fear and distrust, instead of surrender there will be submission. Contact will be replaced with isolation, and joy with shame. Hope will cease to exist as a concept. The Earth will be covered with steel and concrete. There will be an electronic policeman in every head. Your children will be born in chains, live only to serve, and die in anguish and ignorance.
The universe we observe has precisely the properties we should expect if there is, at bottom, no design, no purpose, no evil, no good, nothing but blind, pitiless indifference.

A lot of people don't know that some places will take leftover foods for the needy (and there are many that will not accept it unless it has been cooked by a commercial kitchen staff). Being passive-aggressive doesn't work on everyone; many people only respond to directness. After years of dealing with passive-aggressive family members, I've learned to tune out unless they give me direct responses/choices.
They're a 2 hour drive away. My county food bank wouldn't accept their leftovers, and neither would our local soup kitchen. Appreciate your suggestion, though.

Itchy eyes that water so badly people think I'm crying, my sinuses go from fully blocked and throbbing one minute to running like a tap the next and back again. It is also messing with my sleep (I'm already a borderline insomniac) and I'm pretty sure I worked a 60 hour week on about 12 hours sleep (from Monday to Friday).
Kinda crazy, innit? We used to think allergies were something from our childhoods....until they pop up in our adulthoods. I never had seasonal allergies until I moved to PA (Penn's Woods).

The trees began to produce more pollens as their self-defense to environmental and microbial threats. Those pollens tend to settle in valleys, and now this area is among the top ten for new allergies, as well as physicians specializing in allergen treatments.

Since you're in Australia, and you've had epidemic type droughts for decades now....my guess is your local vegetation is throwing out its survival-mode pollens. To such a high degree that humans who never before had allergies, are now experiencing symptoms.

Mr. Murphy has been my constant companion since Halloween. Surprise snowstorm brought down huge tree limbs and cut off our power. When power was restored, the furnace didn't work, and neither did the ice-melt tape on the roof and gutter. Enter furnace mechanic, tree surgeon, electrician. Electrician hypothesized the electric ice-melt cord was chewed by Mr. Ground Hog as it snaked down the downspout, because rodents like to chew on warm cords. Mr. Ground Hog, by the way, hasn't been captured by the rodent control company's Have-A-Heart cages, positioned around his huge tunnels dug around the house foundation. I think he hibernated early after the Halloween snowstorm, and isn't coming out for the apples, or something. The ice-melt electric cord sent a pre-failure message to other electrical things in my house, as they're known to do and the fridge started making helicopter sounds like its motor was trying to take flight, and fly away with the clothes dryer. The dryer was making clanking sounds, but it turned out to be a false alarm made by pocket change. The fridge was simply moaning loud death rattles while it melted the butter and spoilt the milk and yougurt...while the freezer kept working.

Now I've got milk outside (because it's near freezing temp), meats and cheeses in a cooler with ice....the tree guy has yet to return and finish up 'non-emergency' trimming, Mr. Ground Hog is still on the loose, the ice-melt tape isn't fixed...and now my long distance (land line) phone service is fucked up.

How lovely, I am flying to Istanbul tonight. I wonder if all utilities will continue functioning for an entire week for a change.
    Congratulations America

The level of anger still present in SA's poor is so sad to see... and the aggression they exhibit is just wrong.

Scarlett and I learned what a nursemaid elbow is today. She pulled her elbow socket just enough for the bone to pinch a muscle or nerve, and that resulted in 2 hours of her flipping the fuck out. Docter comes in, touches, twists, and she is all better in 5 minutes, like nothing fucking happened

Sounds like Scarlett was carrying around her favorite doll or stuffed bear in the same crooked arm position.

Please tell us this wasn't a techno-toy pediatric repetitive type injury....

She slipped off the front of the shopping cart, and instead of falling, she clung onto the cart, and that pulled her elbow socket just enough to require a visit to urgent care.

So how much did that cost you, 50 000 $?

Don't know. Its wasn't the ER, but it was an after hours place. They did xrays before setting the joint to make sure it wasn't fractured, and I know those aren't cheap.

but the tax payer picked up the bill. Scarlett is going to remain on government socialist insurance until Brandy and I get married next year. I'll ask Brandy if she was showed the total, or if we will ever see one.

    EDIT:
    Brandy says no

Poor kid; I'm sure that was quite an event. You don't have insurance through the county OG? Or will it be cheaper when you're a legal family unit? Pretty sure when I worked for a local city I could have myself and a child without being married....

Not that it matters. Even with insurance Hubby and I often go to Patient First (urgent care) instead of seeing regular docs because honestly the wait time is the same, and I often get better service. Hubby goes to them regularly for his blood pressure meds and they actually follow up; they've even called us on Saturday mornings with test results! Only K has a regular pediatrician's office because I do like their service. And I go to a regular OB/GYN because I finally found one that isn't full of douches and 2 hour waits even with appointments.

Yeah, I do hate that. I have no problem with waiting for an appointment - but when you're still in the waiting room three hours after your supposed "appointment" then that screams "unorganized" to me.
That was for a dermatologist, by the way, so no emergency cases

Parent + child isn't an option yet. They keep talking about it, but haven't given us the option yet. I have a high deductable plan combined with a health savings account. So the first $3000 comes out of that account, then my pocket, and the insurance covers the rest. When we get married its moved up to the first $5000 +10% of all costs over that.

Wow! They don't offer very good plans. The city I worked for had the option; maybe we have a higher rate of single parents here. In fact, one of my coworkers had one of his stepchildren on his plan while his wife had her own plan with her private employer, and her other child was covered by her ex-husband. (Talk about a mess to deal with though!) I think the family deductible was $2000 and I don't remember how much monthly premium was. I never participated in the health savings accounts but those sound like a good idea.

I hate game trailers. They can so goddamn epic, and everything you want in a game, but you know deep down inside, the game itself isn't going to live up to your hopes.

^ War for Cybertron was actually a pretty good game, so don't let your hopes drop too low..

Although going into it with no hope allows for being pleasantly surprised.

My hamster Mocha seems to be dying

He's a year and a half old and recently has been very quiet. Didn't like his new muesli since Pets@Home changed the recipe of it he's been very selective and ignoring most of it. Been very still and quiet. Switched to feeding him pellets recently so he can't be selective and the last few days he seems to have had a new lease on life. Started running around, climbing the bars etc like he used to, figured he was getting a balanced diet now.

But today he looks awful. Saw him trying to walk and he was shaking convulsively. Just went to check on him and he was lying still on his side, looked dead. But when I tapped on the cage he blinked, tried to stand up and collapsed again.

Got him presents under the tree as well as Amanda and I each have presents 'signed' from him. Hope he gets better for Christmas but not hopeful

I'm sorry for you loss, Randy. There is something especially heinous about losing a pet.

Someone high up in the county sent all the county employees a Happy Holidays memo today. It can be summed up as "Be happy you have a job, stop asking for raises". Not joking. I'm going have to scan this beauty. They even went through with the extra effort and expense to have it printed and sent out via interoffice mail instead of using email.

I'd suggest you and Amanda adopt a shelter kitty. Cats are easier than dogs, are full of personality as well as independence, are soft and fluffy, very smart and curious, and can live close to 20 years.

    I sneezed earlier today. Once.

That was all it took to somehow cause nasty pain in my lower back which doesn't go away.

Kidney stone. Just a small one. Seems as if I forgot to drink enough over the holidays - I mean, if you drink two liters of fluid and don't have to go to the toilet once, you're seriously dehydrated.

    Stupid me.
