    Default Graphics card upgrade advice

    Wotcher!

The 8800 GTS in the Ginger's computer finally gave up the ghost and, though I haven't tried to bake it in the oven to revive it as a GFX Golem, I'm in the market for a new one. Looking for something comparable to that card in performance, and the chipsets I'm trying to decide between are

    - Radeon R7 250 (specifically PowerColor Radeon R7 250 OC GDDR5 HDMI 1GB)

    - GT 730 (same price) or GT 740 (ca $30 more).

The radeon is a couple of tiers higher but not sure which card is better overall (wrt power consumption, heat, noise, reliability, game support etc).

Games that may be played: GW2, Divinity, Diablo, that sorta stuff

Any and all help appreciated! If I succumb to temporary insanity I might go for a GTX 750 Ti of the variety that doesn't require an extra power connector

Just upgraded my nVid GTX 570 to an AMD Radeon R7 265

My advice? Don't go with AMD, stick with nVidia. I regret not doing so.

750 looks like a good bet, and from what I've read consumes considerably less power than its equivalents.

I'm using the 750 TI I really lik it. But if a powersupply is not an issue for you I do believe the R7 265 is considerably more powerful. In my mind I just go for bang for your buck so see what you want to be able to play/do. Then just get something that can do it well, for the next 3 to 5 years, and by then you'll be upgrading again. No point to get top of the line, just doesn't make sense, unless you really value max settings on games, or have money to spare.

I decided to go for an overclocked 750 Ti from Palit, one for the ginger and one for myself. I wasn't going to get one for my box but realized it's a requirement for transcoding and streaming VR porn I mean games also looking forward to quieter computer and better performance.
