A couple things...
1. Surely as a tenant you have the right to either replace/repair the fridge at the landlords expense or have the rent reduced accordingly. (I'm assuming the house is furnished)
2. If you don't (for some reason) have that right, surely you could (would) just go and buy a little beer fridge to keep your food fresh.
3. If you end up buying a home you will already have a great beer fridge for yourself.
I can't imagine living for more than a few days with dodgy refrigeration - even in a colder climate.
Warm beer is an affront to civilisation and curdled milk is just fucking disgusting, let alone eggs and fresh veg.
Such is Life...
