Good soundtrack in the OR today. Ophthalmologists get a gold star

^^ I like the beat, I think I heard a very similar one in some jazz classic, but don't know which

It's interesting that Cash took out the dissonances from the chords in the verse. Still a good cover.

Hell, I like the Cash version a lot better than the NIN version. And speaking of good Cash covers, this one keeps coming on Pandora for me... one of those good songs to kill yourself to, or something along those lines.

    Spoiler:
    Early one morning
    With time to kill
    I borrowed Jebb's rifle
    And sat on a hill
    I saw a lone rider
    Crossing the plain
I drew a bead on him
    To practice my aim

    My brother's rifle
    Went off in my hand
    A shot rang out
    Across the land
    The horse, he kept running
    The rider was dead
    I hung my head
    I hung my head

    I set off running
    To wake from the dream
    My brother's rifle
    Went into the sheen
    I kept on running
    Into the south lands
    That's where they found me
    My head and my hands

    The sheriff he asked me
    Why had I run
And then it came to me
    Just what I had done
    And all for no reason
    Just one piece of lead
    I hung my head
    I hung my head

    Here in the court house
    The whole town was there
    I see the judge
    High up in the chair
    Explain to the court room
    What went through you mind
    And we'll ask the jury
    What verdict they find

    I felt the power
    Of death over life
    I orphaned his children
    I widowed his wife
    I begged their forgiveness
    I wish I was dead
    I hung my head
    I hung my head

    I hung my head
    I hung my head

    Early one morning
    With time to kill
    I see the gallows
    Up on a hill
    And out in the distance
    A trick of the brain
    I see a lone rider
    Crossing the plain

And he'd come to fetch me
    To see what they'd done
    And we'd ride together
    To kingdom come
    I prayed for god's mercy
    For soon I'd be dead
    I hung my head
    I hung my head

    I hung my head
    I hung my head

I prefer the Cash version, it just seems to carry more weight with his voice, his style and his age - it was also something of an epitaph.

I really like this song for some reason, plus the girl is so strange/quirky I love it

@Aimless, apparently she's from Sweden, are you a fan?

  16. #706
I like her music, I just rarely listen to it. Some of my friends are very devoted fans I really like Swedish music as a whole but don't often seek it out of my own volition.

    Back to basics today:

^^She was in my city a week ago for some music festival, I only found out on the day it was on though
Another Swedish group that I really like is The Knife love their music, they're so awesome and the music clips are cool.

I particularly like this one, it's so random:

Eilen Jewell Fucked up name, but hella chill with a bit of blues and a lot of country, but not the cheesy or the whiny kind. The good kind. The heartfelt kind. Good stories

Between for the longing for love and the struggle for legal tender...

....he knows that all his dreams begin and end there.

    The Pretender.

....for true love, coulda been a contender.

Say a prayer for The Pretender....

    Great lyrics, timeless.

    More Jackson Browne great stuff:

Looking back at the years gone by
    like so many summer fields....

    I don't know where I'm running now,
    I'm just running on empty
    running blind.

Gotta do what you can just to keep your love alive,
Trying not to confuse it with what you do to survive....

    Running on empty
    Running blind
Running into the sun but I'm running behind.

People need some reason to believe....

Look around for the friends that I used to turn to
    to pull me through
    looking into their eyes
    I see them running, too....

    Running on empty, running blind
    running into the sun
    but running behind.....

Ya know I don't even know what I'm hoping to find,
    running blind,
    running into the sun,
    but I'm running behind....

And, of course, Jackson Browne links back to Neil Young. Young Men singing about Old Men. So much in common, despite the years gone by:

I was thinking that maybe I'd get a maid,
find a place nearby for her to stay.
Just someone to keep my house clean,
fix my meals and go away.

    A maid,
    A man needs a maid.

It's hard to make that change
when Life and Love turn strange.....

    To Live a Love
    Ya gotta Give a Love.
    To Give a Love
    Ya gotta be part of...

When will I see you again?

More of 70's music, pretty much ten times better than anything made now:

Notice, at the beginning, who's accompanying her.

I hear her call sweet dreams
but I forget how to dream....

My friends from college, they're all married now.
They have their houses and their lawns.
    They have their silent moods,
    tearful nights, angry dawns.

Their children hate them for the things they love,
they hate themselves for what the are.
And yet they drink, they laugh,
close the wounds, hide the scars.

But you say it's time we moved in together,
and raised a family on our own, you and me.
Well that's the way I've always heard it should be....

    You want to marry me?
    We'll marry.

    ....
