Thread: One mass-shooting per day in the US?

Default One mass-shooting per day in the US?

    http://shootingtracker.com/wiki/Mass_Shootings_in_2015

According to this list, the US has averaged about 1 mass shooting per day this year. I must say I had no idea the problem was that bad. I expect some of these were gang-related shootings involving people no-one cares about, but, even so, on the face of it it seems kinda insane. Does anyone know if this truly is an insane number of mass shootings? Is this year an outlier? What's going on in the US?

Doesn't look like that many to me considering the number of guns available. We have at least 4 drive-bys a week in Stockton/Modesto/Sacramento metropolitan area. But probably not all qualify ass mass since they seem to have defined mass as 4 or more in one incident.

Almost one a day does seem high but. . . 1-3 a year, defined as having 3 or more targets, per significant metropolitan area, more in the largest or most gang/crime-infested? That doesn't seem out of place and that might well amount to almost one a day after all. The US really is just that large. And it looks like some of those listed reach their numbers because it's an exchange with people hurt/killed on both sides.

Being, Stockton shouldn't be taken as a representative sample. Stockton is awful. I note that it's had four make that list so far this year.

I think LF is right about the numbers being partially to be explained by the size of the country. What really bothers me is the high number of "unknowns" in 3rd column.

The US may be large but even if you look at per capita the US doesn't look normal.

No it doesn't. The numbers of unresolved cases just looks even more abnormal to me.

When I said "out of place" it was in reference to Minx's question about whether this year was unusual. I think "almost one a day" does sound unusually high even for the US but it may prove to not be if I took the time to properly consider the scale.

You are correct. Liberals and the cult of victimization is responsible for much of the criminal shooting ratio. We are also 'lucky' enough to live next to a failed state that has criminals pouring over the border on a daily basis.

    Presuming you don't mean Canada.

The US has more guns per capita than nations that require gun ownership. Either we have too many guns in circulation, or we have crappy police forces. Maybe both. Perhaps the bigger problem is that all branches of government can be "bought" by special interest groups, or super PAC campaigns?

You think the U.S. is more Liberal than Europe?

You have little pockets of conservatism...like that little island off the coast of France...what's that called?

Er, I really don't think you've thought through this bizarre statement of yours.

It isn't a blanket liberal/conservative. In many ways Europe is far more socialist than US. However I do believe when it comes to race relations, Affirmative Action and the constant race baiting by the left it is far more liberal. Granted I could be wrong since I don't pay THAT much attention to European politics.

Doesn't seem like you pay ANY attention to European politics then.

So you're blaming Mexico for failed US policies?

Eh? No but they are responsible for an increase in crime and an increase in the strain of city/state/federal budgets.
