BBC Article about this, where images are taken from
As we're warming up for the British election (expected to be officially declared on Tuesday to be held on May 6), the stakes are being raised. The Tories have been launching a series of posters across the country since the turn of the year. Labour, appropriately enough for a party that so mishandles cash its left the country broke, is itself flat broke: so can't really afford posters. So instead they ran an online competition to see who could design the best poster for them. The winning was revealed this weekend and shown on 11 electronic billboards (and the national news media for free).
This photoshopped image shows Cameron as Gene Hunt, un-PC and tough-guy police officer from the TV series Ashes to Ashes (and Life on Mars before that).
However this poster launched with a lot of fanfare has seemed to backfire a bit with the Conservatives instead of being upset by this bit of "negative campaigning", grabbing onto it instead. Some have argued that a return to the eighties politically (the election of Thatcher in 79 ending last Labour's government) was a good thing. While alternatively and more simply its been pointed out that Gene Hunt is the star of the popular TV show and is simply a cool person to be connected to. Cameron replied to the poster by simply saying "Fire up the Quattro" (Hunt's car and saying) and the Conservatives have quickly photoshopped their own version and have paid to have it also advertised at the exact same 11 ad boards that Labour are using.
Personally I know which I prefer
