Two fighter jets were scrambled to escort a passenger jet that was forced to make an emergency landing after a woman on board allegedly became unruly over her cat.
Keep on keepin' the beat alive!
I don't get why these kind of passengers almost never get charged with crimes.

Which also makes you wonder if it wasn't an overreaction (not to have her arrested but to get a jet escort) - or if she indeed had powerful mafia connections of course
On a side note keeping the cat in a lavatory also seems very strange. And does that mean she got the cat on board without anyone in security noticing it was in her handbag? This story is just weird all around.

The jet escort is an overreaction, but punching a flight attendant and making terroristic threats should lead to a jail sentence. If this woman was a Muslim, she'd probably be dead.

Yeah punching and threatening doesn't sound like a 'misunderstanding'. Which does remind me of an incident where two engineers were talking about pumps on a plane, but the Spanish word for that is 'bomba'
You'd hope this lady at least gets to pay for all the trouble she caused, actions like these aren't exactly cheap.

It sounds like psychiatric illness is what it sounds like.

There's a kinda crappy independent movie theater near my house that we go to only reluctantly. For some inane reason, Depp's new film is premiering there. It has screwed up traffic (both foot and car) like none other, and for some reason they need a helicopter overhead to annoy us as well.

Good plan.

All clock/bomb posts were moved to this thread. If anyone objects to the move, it's actually Steely's fault and you should PM him with your complaints.
But be aware; I do not consider opinions which don't correspond to my own to be valid, nor do I recognize the right of anyone to express them.
Thus, any PM's expressing displeasure at Wraith's actions will be ignored.

Don't even have to click. Just hovering that broke the tab. Yay for sandboxing.

I was surprised how the Pope's visit to the US pretty much trumped ALL other media news coverage. WTF?
I'm not sure. However, it's a problem endemic to the medical profession over here - their dissertations are mostly worthless anyway. My own master thesis equivalent was 120 pages long (had I printed the source code it would have tripled). That's about three times the pages expected of a medical student to earn their doctorate. They're also allowed to write this dissertation before they actually finish their master. You can imagine how "useful" those dissertations are to actual research - some medical faculties actually prescribed an upper limit of 50 pages. And there was one aspiring eye doctor who got away with a mere 24 pages.
Yes, I know, quantity is not quality.

Wait, an M.D. needs to write a dissertation? Or is this just a German thing? Or is this an academic degree in medicine (I don't think we don't have those in the US)?

In Switzerland Dr.Med (which is M.D.) needs a dissertation as well. It is much smaller than a usual dissertation and it is discussed to drop it.

Seems like a recipe for fraud and plagiarism.
