And working hard to nail this guy despite that just might hand the swatting jackass' lawyer enough to get off too. This is a set of cases where the DA has to decide which person they want to convict more and I can agree with choosing to go after the swatter and letting the officer off due to lacking confidence in the ability to secure a conviction.
Again, the fucking US ARMY has stricter Rules of Engagement than these jackasses. If that had been a soldier he would have been court-martialed.

    Food for thought.

Also, by the way: When the DA goes after the swatter he'll have to convince the jury that he should have known that the act of swatting is likely to result in bodily harm for innocent people. This is essentially arguing that interactions with the police can result in your death even if you did nothing wrong. Isn't it nice to know that interactions with the police have to follow the same rules as if you were forced to interact with street thugs: No sudden movements, no provocations and be prepared to die for no reason at all.
Plus: Said street thugs would be a lot more likely to be convicted of a crime if they harmed you.

Shot to death through a garage door. Jury can't reach a verdict and then suddenly decides to award $4 that is recommended to be reduced to 4c and then to zero. Fuck these clowns.

They found him 99% responsible for what occurred. The $ amount is just a stupid grabby headline.

Their finding was fucking stupid and $400 is not the value of a human life.

So if he was 0% responsible then his life was worth $400!? WTF?

Well duh he was probably on food-stamps and the family would probably just spend the money on cigarettes and beer.

In all seriousness, it's not so much about the value of a life as it is about the egregiousness of the act and the appropriate punishment of it. In the US, cops shooting a black man through a garage door, and then letting him die, is not a particularly bad thing to do and therefore doesn't warrant a particularly severe punishment. This is especially true if the black man in question was engaging in some behaviour that is only acceptable from young white fratboys. This is of course because there are lots of guns in America and American police are constantly at risk of being shot to death, so a cop shooting someone to death is kinda reasonable.

If a black man shoots and kills a cop, even if it's an accident, the punishment is likely to be much more severe. Not sure what the punishment is for a cop killing another cop through negligence.

And you think that verdict is right in any way? Being shot in your own home for not being polite to the police? Police officers who still have to explain how their victim decided to put his gun in his pocket after he was shot three times.

    Some clarification:

It looks like people in Florida are really not good at understanding instructions.

The video is fucked up. Mesa PD tried to cover this up at first.

Thank goodness it was Tazer and not a gun though right? One of the major reasons I think Tazers are good, sadly liberals often push back and don't want cops to have that sort of gear.

God forbid cops were trained to diffuse a situation without using any weapon.

What situation? The guy was sitting on the pavement and gave every indication of being stoned out of his mind. Tazers are supposed to be there to disable someone who's a threat, not to punish someone for not following your commands promptly enough.

If liberals don't want cops to have this sort of gear, it's because they clearly can't be trusted with them, as this video demonstrates.

Presumably they need to detain a person in that state of mind who's outside, for his safety if no one else's.

There is indeed a lot of evidence that cops often misuse tasers, just as they misuse all other forms of force.

And if he didn't have a taser? Let's do a little thought experiment. What do you think this officer in this situation would have done?

Instead of a thought experiment, can we just fast-forward to whatever point you're trying to make?

That a Taser made it less likely that the person gets shot with a gun.

Are you the same Lewkowski whose been defending US cops all through this thread? I was sure we only had one Lewkowski. Seems like you have an even lower opinion of your police than I do.

Uh, can we agree that if someone would resort to lethal force in that situation, they shouldn't be trusted with any weapon?

Get big enough numbers even small percentages amount to several lives. If a taser means someone is even .001% less likely to die in a police encounter and we know that the police (or any organization) will not always respond appropriately 100% of the time why not? Furthermore Tasers have additional advantages in terms in terms of quickly and effectively enforcing compliance.

Also, police should not be using painful electric shocks to enforce compliance, as we do not yet live in an 80s sci-fi dystopia.

Compliance is not a reason to use a weapon.

Fearing for your safety or the safety of others is the only reason.

Even if someone is running away that is not justification to use a weapon.

Pain compliance is a defacto standard. Grappling isn't ideal for a lot of reasons.

If we banned these incompetents from working as cops, there wouldn't be many cops left.

If BLM protesters would instead work to help police and end the 'stop snitching' bull shit maybe this guy would be alive. Ironic that he should be a victim of black on black urban crime as opposed to police brutality.

Lewk calls that "black-on-black crime", it meshes nicely with his racist views.

What racist views? Point out a fact that you are more likely to die via crime in your own neighborhood as opposed to a police officer shooting you isn't racist. It is reality.
