Thread: That's all?

    Default That's all?

    https://lasvegassun.com/news/2016/de...flight-to-los/

"The police reports show Blake Adam Fleisig, 35, of Los Angeles, was ticketed for disorderly conduct involving brawling or fighting. Anna Christine Koosmann, 36, of Edina, Minnesota, was ticketed for disorderly conduct and for obstructing police. While police released Fleisig late Wednesday, Koosmann was taken to the Hennepin County Jail, where she was released early Thursday after posting $78 bail, the jail roster shows. She's due in court Jan 13. The charges are all misdemeanors.

Video shot by a passenger shows Fleisig scuffling with another passenger as officers removed him from the plane and Koosmann cursing as officers escorted her off.

Delta issued a statement saying the flight crew "elected to return to Minneapolis shortly after takeoff when two passengers refused to follow crew instructions, became aggressive and created a disruption in the cabin." The statement says the safety of customers and employees is the airline's top priority."

We coddle criminals in this country. That kind of absurd behavior - leading to an ENTIRE plane full of people to have to turn around on the flight. After the wasted expenses, time out of people's day, having to call the police, potential stress of the other passengers they get charged with misdemeanors? Good grief.

Yes Lewk, this is what happens when middle-class white people commit crimes.

Which he's saying (not for the first time) is a bad thing.

Your condescension implies you're both agreeing and disagreeing with him.

He still refuses to acknowledge that different people get treated differently by the legal system.

Different people get treated differently by the legal system. That satisfy you? As long as we have jury trials (and hell for that mater judges that are people) you won't get perfect equality under the law. While you obviously look at it from a racial standpoint there are many other factors that play into equality. Gender, age, attractiveness, clothing, grooming, weather the the jury member had a bad day and wants to get it over quickly etc.

Yesterday I told a friend whose (Lybian) nephew got accused formally of shopliftinghere in Istanbul that one of the things he needed for his nephew was somebody to train him in expressing unadulterated respect for the court. And that it was high time for him to start wearing a tie. That is probably as important as getting a good lawyer.
    Congratulations America

All of those things matter but few of those things matter anywhere near as much as race in the US. Surprised you didn't mention $$$.

The video doesn't show any physical fighting while in the air. The flight was diverted because the female was arguing with the flight attendants about needing to pee.

Flying causes a high level of anxiety for people. The decision to turn around was on the airline and its employees. Lewk's hard on for ruining the lives of people for having shitty days is the only disgusting part here.

As they were being escorted off the man assaults someone right in front of the police. The woman is cursing as she is being marched off the plane. People with that poor impulse control need to be off the streets for public safety reasons. Their 'bad day' made 100 people have bad days. There should be zero tolerance for disruptions like this on an aircraft.

What is cursing if not "disorderly conduct"? Sounds appropriate.

I'm actually not concerned about the cursing - it was just to highlight how poor self control these two people had. Failure to follow flight crew instructions, causing a disrupting IN MID AIR and then actually striking someone are all things that should have non-trivial punishments.

proof? yeah the flight was delayed, but a bit of that time was made up in the air and landing/unboarding priority. Do we have a spreadsheet of a 100 people miss connecting flights or check ins?

Are you seriously such a sick individual that you're suggesting zero tolerance punishments because someone inconveniences others? cause you've been a serious inconvenience to this board.

A lot of people have self control issues at times, especially if alcohol has been involved - and the airlines push alcohol quite strongly and encourage drinking. Not suggesting that was definitely a factor but there is always a risk. Causing disruption to a flight absolutely should be punished but this isn't the most serious of offences.

a misdemeanor in Minnesota can reach 6 months in jail (good luck coming out and still being employed) and a $1000 fine.
Not to mention the obvious trespass from the airline.

Kinda seems overboard if you ask me.

Can and will are two very different things in my experience.

The person who shattered my eyesocket and was convicted of Grievous Bodily Harm which has a maximum sentence of life in prison got sentenced to six months in prison for it.
The person who broke into my home and I chased out and got his car's reg plates then got caught in someone else's home the next week and got convicted for both offences (and for 18 other burglaries too) could have got a maximum sentence of fourteen years imprisonment. Got a suspended sentence with zero jail time.

Well if he thinks this should be a felony or carry stiffer penalties (I don't) then I can see why he'd be upset at calling it a misdemeanor. I don't agree with him but doesn't mean his assumptions are wrong just his viewpoint.

Which is fucking insane. How is society kept safe when people can pull this shit and literally get a slap on the wrist? Eighteen other burglaries and ZERO jail time? What the ever loving fuck. And shattering an eye-socket gets 6 months? You could have died (punches to the face can be lethal though often it is the fall to the ground that leads to the death/brain damage). Apparently it isn't just America that coddles the worthless pieces of shit in the world.

Incredibly rare that someone gets the maximum. Even if it wasn't the even remote possibility that these types of people don't serve jail time is offensive.

I disagree with the premise that because alcohol is served the airline is somehow partially responsible for this. These are adults. Drinking should NEVER excuse behavior. And yes it isn't the *most* serious of offences, it is still a big deal. Air travel is rough enough with delays, security etc. Frankly I think the airlines should all create a master blacklist for idiots like this so they can never fly again. They should also be sued for the cost of the fuel, tickets, pilot/airline attendant pay etc. THEN the other passengers should sue for emotional distress, loss of time, potential delays in getting places etc. I'm not normally sue happy but its about time our flawed system actually screwed people that deserve it for once.

America mollycoddles pieces of shit a lot less than any other developed nation I can think of.

Drinking should rarely excuse behaviour but it is a known risk. I had a regular customer at my bar smash a glass window from the door on our main entrance while inebriated a few weeks ago on a Saturday night. Not a normal problem and certainly not one I'd encourage but afterwards he was apologising profusely and begging me not to call the Police. I was absolutely furious but forgave him and he paid for the damages in full getting a new pane installed first thing Monday morning. I was still very angry that this had happened (especially as we were running a long-planned charity event with photographers on the Sunday) but especially knowing the guy and knowing this was out of character l was quite happy to let it slide. Here we don't know these guys and their history but they could just as equally be having a bad day.

If this is a repeat problem then absolutely blacklist but banned for life due to a one off screw up is not necessary.

Does the keep drinking? Because if he does you made the wrong decision. If someone gets drunk one time and realizes wow I don't have control over my actions anymore I won't do that again... I could see some tolerance assuming no one was actually harmed. But then they continue to do so? Yeah fuck them - they know they will place themselves in a compromised state and continue to do so? Yes they should be 100% responsible for their actions, getting drunk isn't a free pass or worthy of consideration as a mitigating factor.

It's always amusing to contrast Lewk's outrage over minor inconveniences with his complacency about murderous racist cops, state-sponsored torture, environmental damage etc.

I run a bar. Of course he keeps drinking and he is more than welcome to. He has self-control, you missed my point entirely. A single f##k up does not mean that someone has no self-control it means they made a single f##k up. A repeated pattern of it means they lack self-control. After that he's drank repeatedly and normally many times since.

I'd be bankrupt if anyone who'd ever had even a single bad experience under alcohol was not allowed to drink ever again.

EDIT: PS I'm pretty sure that he'd had some very bad news about a relative that day and lashed out while drunk, completely out of character. I know his backstory as I know him, but it's not relevant to you. These guys could be twats or they could just be having a bad day, unless it happens again we don't know.
