Thread: Brexit Begins

Wrong, production won't be moved to Japan. Production is already happening in Japan. Nissan isn't investing in expanding production there, there's no new factory in Japan, they're able to cope with their pre-existing infrastructure which shows that the new investment they were planning is redundant as I said. If they were investing in a new or expanded plant in Japan you'd have a point.
The firm's Europe chairman, Gianluca de Ficchy, said: "Nissan is investing heavily in new technologies and powertrains for the next generation of vehicles in our Sunderland plant.

"To support this, we are taking advantage of our global assets, and with X-Trail already manufactured in Japan, we can reduce our upfront investment costs."
Translation: They're cutting investment globally because they don't need it. Now is not the time to invest in diesel.

Worth noting that there's multiple lines they're involved with in Sunderland and that no job losses have been announced at all. They're continuing with lines with a future like the Leaf and Qashqai. This is a diesel issue not a Brexit issue, VW and the following diesel scandals have killed this model not Brexit.

Nissan was going to produce the x-trail in Sunderland as a replacement for models that are going to run out. To avoid redundancy.

Anyway Randy, it must be great to be able the ugliness of Brexit to the point that you mastered. So that you can feel innocent of the fuck up you helped creating.
    Congratulations America

Yeah they chose that before the VW dieselgate scandal collapsed diesel sales to the point where it was no longer needed. Diesel sales have halved since this investment was announced.
Yeah they chose that before their CEO was arrested.
Yeah they chose that before their own diesel vehicles were found to be putting out emissions over four times the legal limit. [i]"In March 2017, Nissan vehicles tested by Which? were found to produce 0.81 g/km NOx compared to the 2009 European emission standards Euro 5 legal limit of 0.18 g/km.[13]"

But sure the scandal-ridden company who's CEO has just been arrested, has cut back a scandal-ridden diesel line from a scandal-ridden industry and is NOT REPLACING IT ANYWHERE ELSE but yeah it's all about Brexit.

I have a bridge to sell you if you're dumb enough to believe that.

Oh, well, keep on telling yourself that everything will be coming up roses.

Has someone already told you that one third of all your companies are either seriously considering or are already committed to relocating elsewhere?

And just to make sure: You do know that the X-Trail can also be configured with a non-Diesel engine?

Yet in the real world we are the fastest growing European G7 nation and have employment at its highest rate ever in recorded history.

Please explain that. Let me guess "you haven't left yet"?

    What. According to which statistic?

    https://fullfact.org/economy/uk-econ...wth-within-g7/

Comical Ali strikes again. You're sure you're not still living in 2016 (where, by the way, you were on par with Germany)?

The big question is whether nissan will change its mind re. the Qashqai and Juke models. May be too late to do so tbh.

LOL quoting an article from months ago. Q4 2018 figures have been posted since then.

In a discussion about Brexit, Tory morons are more relevant, as is this particularly asinine form of Brexit-related invective.

Well its quite clear that Labour and other assorted party morons are really not that bothered about having no deal either, all they care about is it being owned by the Tories.

If parties who were banging on about how awful no deal is were telling the truth they'd have ratified May's deal to avoid no deal.

No, that does not follow at all. There are at least two other plausible interpretations.

And yet you're unable to link to them. Weird.

    Also, why are you lying?

    https://stats.oecd.org/index.aspx?queryid=350

If the figures had been posted the last column would not be empty.

But, here, this is from two weeks ago. FROM YOUR OWN GOVERNMENT. You'll note that one certain quartal is missing:

Sorry I mistyped. Your prior link only quoted to Q2, since then Q3 have been released and some monthly data from Q4 have released which consistently show the same thing. The UK is growing currently faster than any other European G7 nation.

From the Q3 column that you linked to:

    France +0.3%
    Germany -0.2%
Italy -0.1% (-0.2% in Q4 so technically in recession)
    United Kingdom +0.6%

I think you'll be surprised at the next couple of years. You're suffering from quite a bit of delusion where the strength of your economy is concerned. Nothing new from Brexshiteers.

Seriously, dude, you're deluded to take one point of data and try to make a general picture out of it. So you had one strong quartile. Whoop-de-doo. You were down with the dogs for the last two years.

And the next quartile will be a bit less to your liking... you remind me of an Ostrich. Get a move and crash your country into a wall, will you?

And don't come crying to us when you've lost your job.

The UK has lagged behind Germany pretty much every quarter for the past two years. Even with the Q3 2018 figures I expect it still hasn't caught up.

The editorial in the Trouw newspaper todays heads ‘If May and the British Parliament don’t come to their senses, a deep economic crisis is guaranteed’.

The editorial describes the way the British side acts as bizarre and surrealist.

This is the first time I see this type of editorial in a Dutch newspaper.

Seems like Theresa is getting ready to surprise us with a border in the Irish sea.
    Congratulations America

  22. #3412
That would both be a surprise and doomed to fail in Parliament. The only solution that leads to a deal is scrapping the backstop, otherwise batten down the hatches and prepare for no deal.

That's not at all what your prime minister is saying.
    Congratulations America

  24. #3414
Because the Prime Minister is infallible and is a perfect judge as to what can carry Parliament ...

How about looking at what Parliament said when Parliament voted, twice now.

You understand that for as far as it goes, she's in charge of Brexit and you are not?

Also, the Greeks voted no, until they voted yes after looking into the abyss. Then they re-elected Tsipras after tossing the result of the referendum on the garbage heap of history.
    Congratulations America

  26. #3416
That's your fatal mistake. We don't live in a dictatorship we live in a Parliamentary democracy. And Parliament rejected her abomination of a deal by the biggest margin defeat ever recorded. Whereas the idea of a deal without a backstop won a majority.

If you think we will step back from the abyss I think and hope you are greatly mistaken. The Greeks were impoverished supplicants who needed bailing out. We are the ones paying the piper so we get to choose the tune.

That's a really unfortunate turn of phrase you've chosen to coopt there.

It seems fairly accurate. The leadership of the two main UK parties appear to be too stupid to step back from the abyss.
