So, that was the Halloween Brexit that wasn't. I guess it's a Sylvester Brexit then? I'm starting to doubt if they're evet going to find the exit.
    Congratulations America

Nice that the Commission is refusing to talk this weekend. It takes away the chances of the British government claiming there is progress being made.

Seems like we're witnessing a complete break down in the talks.
    Congratulations America

Today the answer to that is less pressing than the answer to the question if that crunching sound was the DUP going under the bus.

Brexit vaut bien une messe, apparently. Brexit for Britain. Brexit in name only for Northern Ireland (Nino?)
    Congratulations America

Actually sounds like the noise was the fudge factory cranking up into overdrive. Classic last minute fudge being produced right now, looks DUP will have a pretty sweet plate of fudge to consume - effectively inside BOTH the EU customs union/market and inside the UK's too - getting the best of both worlds. Which is pretty much exactly the formula used for the GFA too.

If so, its a sound deal that completely respects the GFA. NI will be simultaneously out and in the EU.

Erm, yeah, no. There's no such thing as a Schrödinger Border.

Sure there is, its exactly what the Good Friday Agreement created.

Only possible because both Ireland and the UK were in the EU. So not really Schrödinger's border.

Well now the UK won't be in the EU and nothing in the GFA committed us to staying in it, so we need to come up with a new solution creatively.

    Great Britain you mean.

    No I mean United Kingdom.

I see. You know the commitments of the GFA make that impossible don't you? Or is it just one of the effects of Brexit you weren't aware of? Like not knowing that leaving the EU means you're not in the EU any longer? Because it seems you Brexiteers have got a big problem with that basic one already. And then you demand not to be called dimwitted.
    Congratulations America

  19. #4399
No they don't, please name any passage from the GFA that make the UK leaving illegal. Or any court case that confirms that? Because Remainers have not been shy to use the courts and this line has already been tested in the courts.

You can't seriously expect anyone to fall for that cheap trick. The GFA is a peace treaty based in the obligations of both the UK and the Republic of Ireland. The RoI accepted British sovereignty in exchange for a solemn promise of the UK not to frustrate a development towards a United Ireland. Brexit without an agreement or provisions seeing to that is illegal. The obligations of the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland are not the sane under the peace treaty.

What is most worrying about Brexit that you Brexitards don't get that leaving the European Union the way you envisage will not only make agreement with the EU for the future near impossible but it will also show all of the world you don't actually feel bound by your promises.

Basically you're setting yourselves up for pariah status. And the problem I have with that is that it makes you a real security risk.
    Congratulations America

  21. #4401
Not to frustrate development towards a United Ireland if that is what the Northern Irish vote for. Not now. Brexit without an agreement is not illegal as the courts have already ruled.

If you want to claim something is illegal show a law or court case saying so.

This is exactly why Brits are unreliable partners; trying to act like end state and progression towards it aren't two separate things.

A bit like how your Brexitards deny knowledge of the words 'ever closer union' in the treaty of Rome.
    Congratulations America

  25. #4405
There is neither an end state nor progression, that is not what the GFA says. The GFA says that if the voters want a United Ireland they can vote for it and all parties respect that. There is no pressure or momentum or prejudice towards that - it is taken out of our hands, out of Ireland's hands, and is in the hands of the voters.

So, effectively, a border down the Irish Sea. How completely unsurprising to anyone who actually understood how to square the GFA with Brexit.

That is, if he can secure the votes. As we've seen, that's a proposition I myself wouldn't take any wager on.

It's very possible the EU took back some of the goodies in the WA. But that's the great thing about having a PM who stands firm.
    Congratulations America

Backstop gone! Good deal, lets get this over and done with now.

EU should say tonight/tomorrow "no more extensions, get this signed off now".

No more dicking around in Parliament.

Parliament is the basis of your democracy. It's amazing how quickly you and Lewk turned on the institutions that keep your countries from descending into strongman rule.
Hope is the denial of reality
