Far from being over talks are being intensified today. Funny that. Wrong as usual Khen.
You seem to have this funny idea you are debating with British remainers. It's amazing how you think you can deny that we have a much better understanding not only of our own political system but also of the niceties of our respective languages. Nothing in the expressions on the EU side implies anything else than that we are not going to walk away from the meetings even though we don't expect there to be any solution with the present British position.
Congratulations America
We'll see. The meetings still seem to be ongoing, you don't seem to have walked away yet.
But if there is a walk away I can live with that. You've progressed so far that your "worst case threat" to me is my "minimum acceptable". Whatever happened to all your gleeful exhortations that you were going to make Brexit what you wanted. Now you're reduced to petulantly saying "we're going to walk away" without actually meaning it.
You've evolved into Theresa May!
You are mistaken; we'll get our way with or without an agreement. What we wanted out of Brexit we already have. We have no interest in walking away, regardless of how we feel the negotiations go, them continuing means there's still a chance of an agreement.
Congratulations America
The problem is more that he entirely misreads the dynamics of the situation. With the WA we have a situation in which we secured the GFA, our money and the rights of our citizens. That's a win.
Now, for phase two we would like as little disruption as possible and keep the UK in our regulatory system. The Brexiteers don't like the second part of our objective very much. They would be happy with the first part, but don't like it packaged with our regulatory system. If they stick with that position, we know that disruption can still be pushed back for at least a couple of months. Even if the Brits start acting up in the run up to december, there's always a lot of people around in the anglosphere who think that a last minute deal is possible (it's not, once october has passed there will be no deal at all). This is good for us.
Once the chaos of a cliff edge Brexit ensues, the whole situation flips again. We then are in the situation where the Brits theoretically are sovereign but in reality entirely dependent on how we deal with them. At that point we no longer have any interest in treating them with any type of consideration; the damage of the chaos has already materialized and all that's in our interest then is to make them pay for it as much as we can. Everything they want or need from then on will come at a much inflated price. It's gonna be Europe first and fuck the Brits.

Meanwhile, the ERG has sent a sharply worded message to Barnier to not play silly buggers with the men and women of the great sovereign empire:
"One day, we shall die. All the other days, we shall live."
I am always surprised at the sheer stupidity of british journalists. Today De Pfeffel set a three month deadline for a deal between the EU and UK. Counting from today that means he says that a deal should be done around the beginning of october at the latest. This gets reported like now all of a sudden we're living with a completely new deadline because tough negotiator De Pfeffel laid down the rules to those unelected bureaucrats in Brussels. Except, De Pfeffel has made a procedural hard condition of the EU his ultimatum. The EU has made clear that for any deal to be ratified by the time the transition period ends, it should be done and dusted at the beginning of October.
So all the bluster is just a silly attempt to hide that the EU still is in full control of this whole process.
I wonder when De Pfeffel is going to make the mother of all U turns, which I still consider entirely possible. (meaning that they are simply going to accept being a non-voting member for the time they need to prepare for the humilation of an article 49 procedure).
Congratulations America
At this point I really wonder at this lunacy they're committing to - first their economy receives a hard left from Covid-19 and then they willingly invite the knock-out punch from a Hard Brexit?

Dutch Parliament has started legislating for a no deal end of the transition.
Congratulations America
And in little under three hours equivalence will be off the books for the beginning of next year.
UK missed the deadline for evaluation of it.

I fail to see what's so funny; you think you deserve special consideration if you ask for something that is in your interests and for us to give or deny? It shouldn't have mattered if we'd send you ten times as many questions. Your people should have submitted in time. We don't have to clarify anything, you have to know our rules good enough to be able to answer the questions.
And nobody gives a fucking hoot for your unruly school boy act about why it's not your mistake you are late. You are late and that means you failed.
Congratulations America
You don't set the rules, nobody gives a fuck about your excuses. You failed. You lot should learn to jump when you're told to jump.

Have you followed the wonderful 'Airbridges'? All it took for that wonderful scheme to come apart was for the EU to take a decision on who could or couldn't travel to its territory. As anybody on this side of the channel could have predicted.
And that's the new reality. Almost like in that picture above, except that is wrong in not showing the EU as as big as a shark as the US.
Congratulations America
You have to wonder how De Pfeffel has this funny idea he'll get his way, when the German Chancellor in her capacity of term president of the EU tells her parliament that the progress is so limited that she thinks the EU should prepare for a no deal situation six months after today.
