Also, reports I heard are about 22k write-in votes were cast, presumably by Republicans who could not stomach voting for Moore and who also would rather die than vote Democrat. If the write-ins had voted for Moore, he would have won. It is fair to say Republican voters in Alabama caused Moore to lose, regardless of the record level black vote.

Plus turnout was massively down in Republican areas notwithstanding that this was a midterm vote.

Most senators' comments mid-November were variations on "if true". Week before the election, most of those who commented appear to have basically said, "We'll see what happens." True, this may be an example of damning with faint praise, and it may certainly have dissuaded some Republican voters, but, voters being swayed that easily doesn't mesh well with previously discussed theories about extreme partisanship and disbelief.
While senators were hemming and hawing, Fox gave us a non-stop full-throated endorsement of Moore, and I don't think it's reasonable to place so much weight on the ambiguous comments of random senators while disregarding the influence of the most important actor in Republican media.

Much higher turnout than expected esp. among those overwhelmingly likely to vote Democrat and a substantial swing among self-identified independent voters who I believe are ordinarily more likely to vote Republican (if we're looking for the source for a couple of percents' worth of write-in votes). That "record level black vote" was almost all for Jones.

Republican turnout wasn't so much down (relative to what we'd expect from a special election) as Democratic turnout was up. Meanwhile, 8% of Republicans voted for Jones.

All in all Jones benefited from a perfect storm.
8% isn't exactly abnormal, even in an election without slavery supporting pedophiles.

I'm sad she hasn't healed too. I wonder if the church officials recognize the difference in needs that a victim has for healing vs. a perpetrator? For example, justice. Open acknowledgment of the crime and the harm that was done is good too. Simple honesty wouldn't hurt. Maybe she might have healed better if the Church or the rapist had done any of this stuff.
