Thread: Paedophile or Democrat?

That would have been more trust-worthy with machinery?

Though Florida 2000 still doesn't make sense to me. Why take so long for a recount? It should be possible to count all ballots overnight. It should therefore also be possible to do a full recount in 24 hours. Dragging on for weeks seems redundant.

Ideally. But electronic voting needs to be as open and transparent as possible. Pretty much the opposite of how GOP controlled areas are handling it. The less people involved in the actual counting and recording the better. It removes a lot possible error and influence.

    hanging chads and bias.

Again hanging chads seems to be a problem with the machinery. In fact a lot of issues arising from Florida appear to be with using machinery: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2000_U...unt_in_Florida

    * Election day decisions by 17 Optiscan counties not to "manually review overvotes that couldn't be properly read by machine"
    * Election day decisions by 19 Optiscan counties not to "manually review undervotes that couldn't be read by counting machines"
    * Election day decisions by 21 punch-card counties not to "attempt to determine voter intent on undervotes that couldn't be read by counting machines"
    * Election day decisions by 22 punch-card counties not to "attempt to determine voter intent on overvotes that couldn't be properly read by machine"
    * Decision not to review dimpled ballots with clear indications of intent

These are all machinery issues. People should be able to clearly count those.

people caused the issues that the machines couldn't comprehend. thats why hanging chads were a problem. the voting wasn't done by machine, it was done by stabbing a piece of paper.

Your own link shows 15,000 hanging chad votes for bush because floridians are so stupid, or so old, they couldn't stab a piece of fucking paper.

But a human could have read the markings. There's nothing there a bit of pen, paper and humans wouldn't resolve.

but thats what caused the week long delay. humans trying to determine if a dimble is an attempted stab, or a wrinkle in the paper. If the stray pen mark is a decision, or an accident.

with a modren machine, you pick, you submit and you get a readout of your votes. no interpretation needed

Except that the machines literally couldn't determine thousands of ballots.

We manage to count all ballots with nothing other than pencil, paper and people in a night.

again these were machines trying to read votes that weren't done via machine. not sure why this is a hang up for you. A proper setup would have the voting and counting done on open source machines. No need to trust a pair of humans that are prone to mistakes. No need to mix old and new and blame all the problems on the new when the old method is the issue.

two nice things that my county gets right is that we get a receipt of our vote on the spot, and we also get the receipt for all the votes done at that location once its wrapped up.

Because machinery can be tampered with.

Machines reading human made ballots is very different from voting directly on a machine. First case the problem is understanding what the vote is, second case the problem is data integrity.

And who's going to verify that all the machines are running the correct version of the software and not some tampered with variant, hmm? You? Are you going to do it? All of them?

And who's going to verify that the data that leaves the open source voting machines is the same as the data that arrives at the open source counting machines? You again? You're going to have a very busy election night.

This really is a vote where fact is stranger than fiction, you couldn't make it up.

On one side a judge who allegedly sexually molested children ... on the other side a lawyer who prosecuted Ku Klux Klansmen. Pretty clear light and dark side here.

Come on Alabama, do the right thing.

The latter probably cost Jones at least some votes.

So exit polling has most respondents who say they voted for Moore also saying they just don't believe the allegations are true. And unsurprisingly, a majority of the voters had already made up their mind about who to vote for before the allegations surfaced.

People may well be lying, sure. But do you have any solid reasons, much less evidence (beyond the fact that conservative Alabamans might as well be an alien race to you generally) to think that hundreds of thousands of them at a minimum are actually just fine with preying on young teen women?

Anecdotally, there seem to be a lot of people who both don't "believe" the allegations but also belittle the accusers for not tolerating that kind of behavior. It's hard to tell if people don't believe the women or are simply stating their disgust at the media for airing them.

I think we can't resolve this without first determining how Moore's supporters feel about grown men "courting" teenaged girls esp 40 years ago. If you ask people whether they support a pedophile or sexual predator they'll say no, but they might think it's okay for grown men to enthusiastically court teenagers.

    Those numbers are very suspect.

It does look, however, that Jones has a decent chance to pull out with a narrow victory. Which is actually a pretty big freaking deal.

Welp, looks like voter fraud is real.

But still, on the off chance that it isn't... can someone please ask Trump to endorse malaria?

Wow. Looking to the west for sunrise this morning...

Anyway, have we found a limit to the decency Republicans are willing to sacrifice for political victory?
    The Rules
Copper- behave toward others to elicit treatment you would like (the manipulative rule)
Gold- treat others how you would like them to treat you (the self regard rule)
Platinum - treat others the way they would like to be treated (the PC rule)

How do you mean? Republicans ended up either endorsing or tolerating Moore, and he won decisively among white voters in Alabama.
