It's too late. American conservatism is Trumpism.

This is the death rattle of Trumpism. We will need to see what happens next.

Leaders of Michigan legislature have been invited to the white house tomorrow. Trump intends to convince them to help him steal the election. They are assholes, so they likely will go along. How sharp is the edge on which American democracy now teeters?
    The Rules
Copper- behave toward others to elicit treatment you would like (the manipulative rule)
Gold- treat others how you would like them to treat you (the self regard rule)
Platinum - treat others the way they would like to be treated (the PC rule)

If they go ahead and send GOP electors to the Electoral College, you can kiss democracy goodbye, even if Biden ends up president on Jan. 20.

    Not going to happen.

Enough GOP Senators respect democracy to reject any attempts of override electors. Romney, Sasse and Collins plus Democrats would be able to vote down dodgy electors. This is darkly dangerous but also futile and impotent, there isn't a chance of it succeeding but it is terrible they're trying. Too many are humouring Trump.

Not convinced there are enough GOP senators who'd defy Trump on this. Romney, probably. Everyone else? Unlikely, regardless of what they claim nw.

Sasse and Collins have already congratulated Biden for winning the election.

That doesn't indicate a willingness to use their authority as senators to try to prevent Trump from stealing the election.

What are you on about? What exactly do you propose the senate do?

Individual GOP senators can unequivocally state that, in the event of conflicts arising from a refusal to certify election results, they would accept the EC slate that corresponds to the results of the popular vote in each state. Individual GOP senators can also reach out to Dems and indicate that they would support impeachment in the short time available, which would be more than justified based on Trump's actions in just these past few weeks. Individual GOP senators can also speak, in the Senate, about the danger posed by all this authoritarian asshattery, and call on other members of the party to also unequivocally announce that they accept the election results, condemn Trump's repugnant behavior, and demand that the transition not be held up a day longer. Senate control matters, and senators have power; the question is whether or not they also have spines. It's likely most GOP senators genuinely are gutless cretins who, like you, prefer to pretend there's nothing they can do. The reality is that there is plenty they can do to influence what's happening right now in your shithole country.

Impeachment for filling a law suit? Y'all really are impeachment happy.

It would actually be pretty absurd and an absolute violation of the constitutional balance of power for the Senate to try to interfere in an individual state's vote counting and certifying.

He's attacking our democracy. Don't try to pretend that he just filed a lawsuit. I'm still pushing for treason charges.

You know this is not ‘filing a lawsuit’. What Trump is attempting is disqualification of the American voter as the ultimate arbiter of who is in charge. You can save yourself any pedantic lessons how America really isn’t a democracy but a republic. The people who set up that system had every intention of keeping the ship of state in a safe pair of hands. It wasn’t set up to hand the wheel to a populist devoid of any shame.

It’s shocking how you are willing to destroy your country just because the man who leads the charge pisses off liberals.
    Congratulations America

"The Washington Post contacted all 53 Republican U.S. senators for comments on the president’s efforts to overturn the election results, including his invitation to Michigan’s GOP legislative leaders to a meeting Friday as he tries to block the state from certifying Biden’s victory with a margin of about 150,000 votes there.

Fewer than 10 senators’ offices responded. Of those, most declined to comment or referred to previous remarks — in some cases remarks that predated Trump’s actions this week, including his call to a county canvassing board member in Michigan.

Sens. Susan Collins of Maine, Mitt Romney of Utah and Ben Sasse of Nebraska, each of whom has been critical of Trump in the past, were the only Republicans to tackle the president’s actions head-on."

Given Collins's history of backing off at the last second, the most you can count on is 1-2.

Collins, Romney and Sasse would be enough though I expect more would value democracy over Trump if push came to shove.

If the Democrats can win either GA race that would improve things too since the vote would be after their inauguration I believe.

We both know you're a very, very stupid man, and it's borderline painful to see you keep trying to pretend you aren't. Trump would be impeached for attacking—through lies, ridiculously frivolous lawsuits, and corrupt efforts to influence officials—the US electoral system, by trying to disenfranchise hundreds of thousands of voters who legally cast votes against him, after he did everything in his power to prevent their votes from being delivered and processed on time.

It would actually be pretty absurd and an absolute violation of the constitutional balance of power for the Senate to try to interfere in an individual state's vote counting and certifying.
That is nonsense; there would be no violation of any constitutional principles for senators to publicly confirm the winner of the election, condemn Trump's attacks on the integrity of the vote, and assure the public that they intend to vote to confirm the votes of the slate of electors that correspond to the winner of the popular vote in each state, in the event that a state sends more than one slate of electors. For an example of an attempted "violation of the constitutional balance of power"—as well as basic principles of ethical governance—see Graham's despicable attempts to persuade Republican state officials to toss out legal votes, or Trump's successful obstruction of certification by swaying key officials, or the clearly stated intention to try to get SCOTUS to overturn the will of state courts and legislatures.

The Democrats aren't going to magically turn things around in Congress based on Georgia. Look at how they've performed elsewhere. This election ended up being a (relatively narrow) rejection of Trump but not of the Republican Party. Warnock probably has the better chance and if it were that race alone there'd maybe be a possibility of Loeffler losing but since people will be voting for Perdue at the same time. . .
Last night as I lay in bed, looking up at the stars, I thought, “Where the hell is my ceiling?"

    Yikes, that ruling... ouch.

Dismissed with prejudice, which, though it is ordinarily something Trump likes, is not good for him this time around.

Best hope is that a lot of Trumpists stay at home either because they think their vote will be stolen or because they believe the GOP betrayed Trump.

One can hope (but I doubt it'll actually happen).

You can tell these people are concerned with the Democratic process instead of throwing a hissy fit for having lost.
