I get where you're coming from, but that's a bit hit-and-miss, and ultimately there appears to be little in the way of accountability and punishment that can help deter both officials and legislators. Odds of republican senators losing to democratic candidates aren't infinitesimal, but they are low in comparison to the odds for reps.

Ultimately, all branches of government are responsive to the people. And if the majority of voters want their elected officials to be scumbags, there's nothing you can really do. You can try going through the courts, but A) they'll probably rule against you, and B) the immoral majority will find a way to bypass their decisions. In the end, the only mechanism for change is elections. And if non-Lewks can't be bothered to vote, they deserve everything they get and then some (except the cases where the Lewks go out of their way to prevent them from voting).

It's frustrating when the victims are not eligible voters.

Lately, at bedtime, Helen hides in the closet and refuses to go to sleep, afraid that her family might leave her in the night. Sometimes Noehmi wants to hide, too; she buried her round face in her hands, weeping, when she recounted one of Helen’s declarations upon her return: “You left me behind.” But Noehmi decided to share their story with me because she worries that other families are still living out a similar search. “I fear there are still other children suffering,” she said. “Other families are feeling this anguish, this struggle, and they need us to act.”
This entire story is heartbreaking, and there are many, many more like it. I understand some people believe brown people from shithole countries aren't really human, that brown parents can't really feel any genuine love for their children, that it's okay to subject brown children to psychological abuse... but, honestly, people who think that way are scum.

Most don't actively hate non-whites. But they are indifferent to their fate. Everything is subordinated to tribal warfare (i.e., making the libs cry).

Hatred is just garnish; it's the routine dehumanization that is so revolting, even when it finds its expression in indifference.

Trump says he's going to put an end to birthright citizenship:

    https://www.nytimes.com/2018/10/30/u...tizenship.html

There are those who say that he simply can't. There are others who say that the courts have historically often upheld blatant violations of similar rights, and that it's all about what you have the power to get away with. Regardless, win or lose, this will rile up the base against the institutions that serve to check the worst impulses of an otherwise utterly repugnant govt.

If he can get rid of the 14th Amendment by Executive Order then his successor can get rid of the 2nd.

But they'll at least pretend to try: https://thehill.com/blogs/floor-acti...ht-citizenship

And, in the process, a great many Americans will be made to feel like they don't belong and be forced to live in fear. As someone pointed out, one reason for trying to remove someone's citizenship is that you want to do something to them that you can't do to citizens.

Oh so you admit that non-citizens and citizens don't have the same rights?

Cruelty to children as a policy tool is more than disturbing, it's reprehensible. Coming from Republicans professing to be pro-life, pro-family, "Values Voters" reeks of hypocrisy. At least the new (D) majority congress is holding hearings. Better late than never? DHS and HHS will have to come clean about separating thousands of kids before the Zero Tolerance policy went into effect and admit 'on the record' that they may never be reunited.

It's bad enough that none of those officials will go to jail, but it's almost worse that they feel no shame....and continue to defend the family separation policy as a 'justified deterrent' to asylum seekers.

    Update:

    https://www.huffpost.com/entry/adnan...b0ed0a00134e1a

Though Asif possessed a permit allowing him to work legally while his green card application was pending, Border Patrol agents detained him for six days. Asif said the only food he received in the agency’s custody was a pork sandwich every eight hours, which he had to refuse because he practices Islam. When agents offered nothing else, he picked off the meat and ate the bread.

    [...]

But the two married on Jennifer’s 35th birthday in 2016, then filed the paperwork with USCIS to adjust Asif’s status. Within a year, USCIS scheduled an interview ― the final step in the green card process.

Then the agency canceled the interview, saying only that it needed more time for a background check. Asif and his wife checked back repeatedly with USCIS without receiving further explanation.

The application had been pending for nearly two years by the time Border Patrol agents arrested Asif in Falfurrias. And it was only after HuffPost published an article detailing his experiences at the hands of Border Patrol and ICE that USCIS finally started to make decisions in his case.

This week, Jennifer received a letter dated March 1 asking her to visit the USCIS office in Ohio to discuss Asif’s application. It made no reference to any decision.

Then, she received a second letter dated Feb. 28, the day after HuffPost published the article about Asif, telling her that the agency had rejected her husband’s green card application.

The letter said Asif’s application suffered from “significant adverse factors that show discretion should not be exercised in your favor,” citing that ICE ordered Asif removed on Jan. 17 and that he is currently detained in Port Isabel.
Would be nice to have some more info but, pending additional details, the story sounds like the kind of xenophobic authoritarian fantasy that would give a certain kind of degenerate human refuse that frequents this board a chubby.

It will be interesting to see who Trump picks to replace Nielsen (who resigned today), and how those senate confirmations go. Might just be another "acting" secretary to add to the list.

11-y-o ordered deported. Alone. Without her family. Initially without representation, although that's about to change. We know that, with representation, chances of prevailing against the govt. are much higher: https://whiletheywait.org/#representation

But representation makes all the difference. For example, without counsel, only 1.6% of women and their children prevail on their asylum cases. In comparison, when women with children are represented, they prevail over 26% of the time.
Such a discrepancy strongly suggests that justice is not being served by this immigration system. Which is obviously not a problem for those wankers who have come to think of brown asylum seekers as subhuman invaders, but you'd think it would be a problem for those who are concerned about the integrity of the US's institutions.
