Thread: If this is a hoax... what should be this man's punishment?

"(CNN)"Empire" actor Jussie Smollett has been charged with disorderly conduct for allegedly filing a false report claiming two men attacked him last month, a Chicago Police Department spokesman tweeted Wednesday night.

Anthony Guglielmi said charges were approved by the Cook County State's Attorney Office and "Detectives will make contact with his legal team to negotiate a reasonable surrender for his arrest."
Filing a false police report is disorderly conduct, according to Illinois code. A class 4 felony is punishable by one to three years, the code says.
A bail hearing is anticipated for 1:30 p.m. CT Thursday, prosecutors said.
Smollett's transformation from victim to suspect in a reported attack that captured national headlines came on the same day that a high-ranking police source said Chicago detectives were working to obtain the actor's financial records."

    Hah!

If this turns out to be a "hoax" (like the Duke Lacrosse team fiasco) then the punishment should be harsh. Filing false claims is bad enough, "hate crime" charges are even worse.

But if you believe in the rule of law, then none of this matters until it's been adjudicated in the courts. Innocent until proven guilty.

Lewk, you've already made up your mind, and presume everything is a "hoax", before it even gets to the courts. That's fucked up.

So you think OJ didn't kill his ex-wife?

I'm in agreement we generally should wait for evidence but the entire story that this guy tried to pull was full of ridiculousness. Polar Vortex weather, noose + bleach, "This is MAGA country," inconsistent story from Smollett and now we have people saying they were paid to take part in this? Yeah, I don't see how anyone can think this wasn't a hoax.

    WTAF?

Actors may have faking things as a living but this actor faking this just plays into the propaganda of arseholes like Lewk who believes this happens all the time and isn't a fraction of 1% of cases.

In the meantime dozens of attacks have probably really happened against real people who aren't actors who were already famous and all Lewk will be thinking is "see this shits fake" rather than "shit this one was fake".

What a crybaby asshole/ dumbass. They should prosecute him to the full extent of the law.

No one doubts that assaults happen all the time. I do think liberals have made a LOT of hoax hate crimes in the past. I also think a lot of general violence gets called a hate crime when it really is just regular old crime. Either way - one should always be wary of instantly believing a partisan liberal when they claim they have been victimized. Being a victim is the ultimate trophy for them.

    Plot twist?

    https://thegrio.com/2019/02/24/jussie-smollett-new-evidence/?fbclid=IwAR20DiCt0_iIHTD7ISJfFncBkMnFbH_IzwbWQNej mh6OB_BN8NuiQaqlzbs

Jussie Smollett reportedly has evidence to dispute police claim about payment for a staged attack

TMZ reports that texts between Smollett and the Nigerian-American brothers accused of being is co-conspirators in the alleged hate crime show that the $3500 check at the center of the case was indeed for fitness training, and not payment for the attack.

That memo line! Seriously what's his position now? That the person he paid for personal training decided to jump him, only despite the fact they were both larger and stronger than him they did minimal damage?? And he didn't recognize them?? Seriously now this guy is just digging a deeper hole for himself. If he had immediately fessed up, cried about battling addiction or what not he would likey have gotten a plea deal. Now? Hopefully they throw the book at him and he actually goes to prison.

Does anyone have a non-opinion source on this? opinion claims 409, 348, 300 fake reports, but admits the lists are both similar and different. The book he is trying to push puts the cases he researched at 100 (maybe why the link in the opinion doesn't work). It then compares these numbers against 7000 (exact number being 7175, and climbing) real cases a year. But doesn't say if the fake cases are also yearly, which suggests that they are not.

Number of reported hate crimes is the most ridiculous standard. You shouldn't assume something is true just because it hasn't proven to be false.

  13. #43
Alright, since our local dumbass hid behind tired and already addressed bullshit instead of critically thinking about the numbers in his opinion link...

The best source I found came from the Center for the Study of Hate and Extremism at California State University, which puts the false reports at 50 over the past 3 years. So the 100, or 300, or 348, or 409, his opinion piece "claims" appears to a cumulative total over a much longer span of time compared to the 7175 that were reported last year alone.

Over the past 3 years that's an estimated .2% false report rate.

So an estimated 99.8% not-false report rate.

    But look, squirrel.

Now try to imagine how strongly you have to ignore that figure to continue to display and flaunt the level of racism and sexism lewk displays on a daily basis.

Consider for a moment which persons report hate crimes and you'll understand why Lewk believes the hate crime stats are inflated by several.

I'm still laughing at his ludicrous claim about how crimes are categorized not sure whether he lives in an alternate reality or if he just thinks that he's a very good liar. In reality, white males driven to commit violent crimes on the basis of ideology—eg. incels, nationalists etc—are often portrayed as nothing more than people with psychiatric & social issues, mentally unstable line wolves where ideology isn't even worth considering (although this has begun to change, no doubt because our tolerance for this particular double standard is lower).

You consider incels anything other than mentally unstable lone wolves?

Most of the "Islamic Terrorism" you've been so concerned about for years is also done by mentally unstable lone wolves. They may be influenced or inspired by the material you express concern about, but so the white men whose threat you're so dismissive of are also similarly influenced and inspired. There is no real difference here between the duo behind the DC sniping, that guy in Las Vegas last year, the one who shot up the gay club in Orlando, and Breivik.

Incel murderers certainly appear to have psychiatric issues, but so do many other murderers. Like many other murderers, eg. religious terrorists, white supremacists etc, they are also strongly motivated by ideology. Their other issues may make them liable or inclined to commit violent crimes, but their ideology influences the expression of violence and the choice of targets. It is not simply a matter of identifying the ideology that a person happens to have--you can draw a direct line between their ideology and their specific crimes, eg. white supremacists targeting black people, neo-Nazis targeting Jews, islamophobes targeting Muslims, homophobes targeting LGBT persons etc, in each case for reasons that make it clear why it can and should be regarded as a hate crime.

The duo behind the DC sniping by literal definition wasn't carried out by a *lone* wolf.

In some cases that is true but the media and at times law enforcement is quick to jump to the Hate Crime charge when it isn't. For example the tragic death of Jazmine Barnes. When it was thought that a white guy killed her it was immediately a "racial hate crime."

There it is. Hating and blaming "liberals" as usual. That's a pathetic way to form, let alone defend your opinions.

Why do you think I made this thread? Of course it was to bash liberals.

  24. #54
Yeah, what a shock to see the Troll.

It's a shame you taint things that way, because these are really great subjects to discuss & debate. Including prejudices and mindsets like yours. But you don't really engage, so we just take the bait and continue to talk around you. (I'm wondering where the hell ideas like yours come from, and why do they persist in an Information Era?)

So carry on with your trolling, Lewk. It's not like you're going to persuade anyone here to adopt your views.

"Illinois attorney Rod Drobinski reviewed the indictment and told Fox News the grand jury hit Smollett with a separate count for every different crime he alleged had been perpetrated against him (eight in all) — to each of the officers he spoke with (two). Thus, the 16 total counts."

    Awesome sauce.

    Here's a great idea for a punishment:

Make him meet groups of hate crime survivors every weekend for a year, and explain to them why people like Lewk don't take hate crimes seriously.
Hope is the denial of reality

Pretty sure Jacob Wohl isn't a real person though

First time I've heard of his name. But if he did make false death threat claims to the police, lock his ass up too. Equality under the law means the Right and the Left can be held to equal standards.
